A guy in the year below me had a long career playing centre half for Charlton. He marked Ted MacDougall when they hammered us 6-2 at The Valley (in torrential rain as I remember) and also played in the reverse fixture when we beat them 3-1 at The Dell. He was a solid player at school but nothing special. There were certainly two or three players better so it was a surprise when he turned pro.

His response might carry more weight if what he said about the Board just dealing with Gaza was true. As we know from Trump himself, he expects the Board to carry a wider brief and would quite clearly compete with the UN (if it ever gets off the ground).

Out of a group of my old school friends who failed their 11 plus, one became a presenter on Blue Peter, had his own TV series and appeared in several well known films. Another became a news reader for ITN. Another is a senior director in an accountancy firm. Another held a senior position here working against drug smuggling and ended up as a senior consultant in an S. American anti drug agency. Many of us ended up with decent middle management positions. In our first year in school in 1965 it was made clear to us most of us would likely end up working in the production lines in Twinlocks or Muirheads - light local industrial factories. All three of my daughters achieved 1sts at uni. Approaching their 30’s none of them are seeing the benefits yet in career procession or salary scales. On the plus side all three want us to rejoin the EU and none of them would ever vote Reform/Tory.

It certainly has. I prefer it to Tescos but might have to bite the bullet. I have to travel further for a Lidl or Aldi and can’t get all I need in those so don’t usually bother.

An excellent all round team performance today with a special shout out to Welington who had the best game I have seen him play so far. Two great saves from the keeper too. Stoke gave us plenty of room to play through them in the first half and we should probably have gone in at HT with a comfortable lead had we more better use of our attacking opportunities. Still, for a change we didn’t fold in the second half and did what was needed for the 3 points. Happy birthday Tonda! If the various reports are true it seems odd that we are apparently happy to sell Armstrong to our promotion rivals but not Edozie? I guess all will be revealed soon.

I didn’t go to university and I only went to a secondary modern school. I can, however, look at Farage, Reform and their policies and see that they would be a disaster for this country. You don’t have to have a degree to see that they sew division and hatred and are pitching themselves to the racists and xenophobes. If you are ok with that, fine, but you will have to accept the kickback from those who see things very differently and want to live in a better society.
