Saw 1917 yesterday. Good film. Excellent cinematography and keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout. Not sure if it is worth all the Oscar hype but worth seeing.

I meant to add that I can’t find much to be proud about this country at the moment, but the fact that we don’t break people’s necks at the end of a rope, fry them or inject them with a lethal cocktail of chemicals is something worth living here for.

If we say it is morally wrong to take some else’s life and that is the worse thing we can do, how can we then justify taking someone’s life for doing so? No one has the right to take someone’s life, least if all the state who need to uphold the highest virtues. What sickens me is to see multiple killers let out and still being able to live an amount of their lives as free people. Kenneth Noye should never be free again but is edging that way. I am all for redemption and giving people a second chance in the right circumstances, but there are some crimes where life should mean life. If we are talking about punishment surely death is a quick an easy way out? Removing someone’s liberty and letting them live with what they have done for the rest of their lives is punishment enough.

Either way it doesn’t stop people killing other people does it. In fact the murder rate is actually higher in US states where they have the death penalty.

It is hard to come on and shine for a few minutes. There was an opportunity to play him from the start today and given that Ralph has said he needs him I am surprised he wasn’t given a chance. If I was Che I would want a move. I hope that he stays and does well, but so far it seems as if he is not trusted.

Longer sentences for lesser but still serious offences that don’t attract the life sentence.

Which shows the problems with referendums. What the people want isn’t always for the best. Capital punishment is clearly not a deterrent. Also if it is wrong to take a life, why is it ok for the state to take a life? Many people who have later been found innocent have been wrongly put to death. Life sentences should be for life and there should be longer sentences for certain offences, but a decent society is one that values life, all life. Yes, there is a cost in keeping these people alive, but it is a cost worth paying in a fair and humane society.

Really? Wow! I think the only people who thought it was ok were the sculptor and the guy at Saints who signed it off and who should have gone to Specksavers. It truly was horrendous.

Conversely they could have put out a video saying we are really ****, so don’t join our academy, but then that would have defeated the purpose.

Just to be clear Nick, we weren’t sore that UC wouldn’t cover our mortgage (but it did rankle us that, when the chap explained that we would be getting no financial support at all, that they would have paid our rent if we had been renting). Just getting to the point when they said there was nothing for us was a monumental struggle, and we are both computer literate. You can’t apply without a computer or access to one which puts many people at a disadvantage straight away. My wife is 53 years old. She has worked since leaving college and has paid her NI contributions. She expected financial assistance when through no fault of her own, she was out of work for a while. I paid the mortgage with my pension but there are still other bills to be paid, for food for example. We ended up getting into debt but fortunately she found another job 6 months ago so we can now afford to deal with the debt. My pension is not enough for me to give up working though and I shall need to work part time until I die. We didn’t expect charity but we did expect help. There are an awful lot of people far worse off than us, goodness knows how they cope. There will never be a perfect system, but this one is truly dreadful. We were denied help because I have an income. It was not enough for us both the live on. Any system should be means tested surely? We didn’t even have the courtesy of a phone call to explain the situation. Just an email saying that our allowance was £0. We had to go searching through a lot of other guff before we worked out why that was. It is a real shame that those people who don’t give a toss about UC because they don’t have to use it, have no idea about how the system works. If so they might be a bit more sympathetic to those who are reliant on it for help.

Don’t you think that it might be different if we were still in the bottom three? It isn’t beyond the realms of possibility that Ralph has told the board to hold fire on new signings. There are still several days to go. Let’s see what happens.

There is clear evidence of racial evidence against Meghan Markle both in the mainstream media and more so on social media both directly and indirectly. This has been going on for 4 years. Fox dismissed it as if it was a fantasy. I don’t see how anyone can defend him. Has he seen everything that has been said about her? I haven’t seen what has been said about Diane Abbot but have no reason to disbelieve her when she says she is being racially abuse. I have no reason to disbelieve any other black MP when they say they are being racially abused. Why should it be any different for Markle? Harry has obviously seen this stuff. Is he making it up too? If Fox had said that nothing he had read seemed to be driven by racism, fair enough. But he didn’t. He just said we are a friendly tolerant country completely omitting that racism exists here. You call out other actors for being woke. Why not call out an actor for being a **** and making a stupidly ill informed comment?
