Funny you should mention the BBC because it got royally slated for being biased towards the Tories! As for the print media, yes more people read it online but there is still a significant hard copy readership along with online feeds. You might not read a newspaper but you will still walk past the bold front pages in shops and supermarkets. It they were insignificant they wouldn’t publish and the rest of the media wouldn’t refer to them so much. The Guardian is the only truly independent newspaper in this country. It is owned by the Scott Trust whose sole aim is to ensure the editor remains unbiased. The paper has liberal traditions but is not tied to any one party. Many of its columnists gave Corbyn a hard ride and you will find that many hard line Labour supporters don’t see it as their paper. Well spotted! I missed the i. I haven’t read a The Independent for years so I couldn’t tell you anything about its political stance. My neighbour gets the i which I pinch now and again and that seems quiet even handed, albeit there isn’t a lot in it. I used to get daily doses of the Express and Mail on my newsfeed. Thankfully I have worked out how to stop that now. I still get a feed of all the front pages though. I don’t think that any paper should be tied to any political party. Print facts and let us make up our own minds. The trouble is that facts have become subjective and we just get fed more and more guff. If you are going to have a columnist with a right wing agenda at least give the same amount of space every day to a columnist with a different viewpoint to provide some balance. An image that still sticks with me years later is from the front page of The Sun before the election involving Kinnick (the Welsh Windbag they called him). Will the last one to leave Britain turn out the light went the headline. No newspaper should be so partisan (for either side).

I just hope they both don’t end up trying to claim Universal Credit!

Liberal with a small L. On a daily basis the print media print stories in support of their own agendas and it is not difficult to see why they do when you see some of the comments on here. It clearly works. Is this serving democracy well? The majority of our press support a party who polled less than their combined opposition. Hardly a level playing field.

As we have seen recently, it doesn’t always work well for a party in power when a large number of MPs are not aligned with their own parties political stance.

And yet research after the election showed a huge media bias towards the Tories with many untrue and negative stories run against Labour. It is common knowledge that the press in this country is strongly right wing. What is “pony” is pretending it isn’t.

If it were only Corbyn then you would have a point. But it is every single Labour leader. I was just looking at the famous picture The Sun ran of Ed Milligan’s eating a bacon sandwich. They turned a natural everyday occurrence into an image which was supposed to say don’t vote for the bloke as PM, look how silly he looks eating a sandwich. The all powerful press barons do not want a Labour government so they work tirelessly to make sure they are constantly seen in the worst light. Corbyn is not an anti Semite but the media have done their job because people now clearly believe it. Can you just imagine the grief Johnson would have got if he was Labour? They would have torn him apart daily.

Not to the extent that the Labour leader gets belittled daily. Let’s not pretend it doesn’t happen. It starts even before they are elected and caries on daily right up to election day. Character wise Johnson is a far worse human being than Corbyn but you wouldn’t know it if all you did was to read the majority of our daily newspapers. What difference does it make how much money Keir Starmer has or what his profession was but already they are trying to paint him as some kind of pretend socialist. They treat Labour leaders in exactly the same way as they treat England football managers. If it was happening to your party we wouldn’t hear the end of it. There are a number of indisputiful facts about living in the UK. One is that the leader of the Labour Party gets vilified daily in the right wing press.

You have completely missed the point Wes. The largely right wing press constantly find ways of discrediting Labour leaders. Do you think that serves democracy well when they don’t treat Tory leaders in the same way? Of course it doesn’t but why should you care because it serves your purpose well. You do the same thing so I can only imagine you are hoping for a sub editors job on The Sun, Mail or Express. Here’s a thought, perhaps all politicians should be treated the same by the media. Unless of course you are afraid of a level playing field?
