  1. I think that he put over a good argument about how our society has been failed in the last decade by the current Government. Unfortunately for him, the press, the money and the power is behind the one one who plays their game. And that is Boris Johnson.
  2. I am sure you are right but what do you do? Rely on social media and memes? We are living in an age where you can reach more people than ever before and target voters more efficiently than before but a lot of time and effort goes into these televised debates. If they don’t make much difference what is the point of doing them? We all have a belief system. We all have a wish list of things we want a Government to deliver. We all know that politicians will say (in general) what they need to in order to get your vote. Perhaps we should have a system where the manifesto you put forward is a legally binding contract, so if you are voting in you have to deliver on your promise? At least it would prevent parties from making outlandish claims that were undeliverable. What has bothered me throughout this campaign is the “get Brexit done” mantra. It actually means nothing in terms of substance because it really is not going to be “done” in a short time frame, but a lot of people get sucked in by it. The concept of democracy sounds great in theory, but when you listen to the way that people make their decisions (and I do not exclude myself in this before the usual suspects kick off) you do wonder if it is the best way to manage our world in the 21st century. I would image that we would all like to live in Utopia. Can we say that mankind has ever lived in anything other than various versions of purgatory?
  3. The BBC are calling it a score draw. I thought Corbyn came across better. The BBC also described Johnson as a coming across like a “door to door vacuum salesman” which sums him up perfectly. Sadly for the Labour Party, although their leader clearly wants a fairer society for all, he just doesn’t appeal to the blue rinse brigade who are happy to buy a new vacuum cleaner even though they have a perfectly good one already.
  4. The Tories are supposed to be the party of law and order. By his own figures Johnson is not going to recruit more police than they have got rid of over the last decade. The Probation service has been outsourced and is not fit for service. The CPS has been cut to the bone and is barely managing to function. At what point are Tory supporters going to admit that their party has failed to deliver on one of their supposedly core functions?
  5. You are not doing yourself any favours.
  6. I didn’t count but I can tell you it was less than 13 times. You are not very good at this are you? For a while I thought you were a Tory plant. Clearly not.
  7. Johnson managed to say “Get Brexit done” 13 times in 60 minutes - once every 4.6 minutes. Dom will be unhappy that he didn’t get the message across more frequently.
  8. Bugger! It was 3 seconds!
  9. Any guess at what point tonight Johnson first says “Get Brexit done?” My guess is 8 seconds.
  10. At the time I left the CPS after several years of stringent cuts, the Probation service was also being decimated. There were some good people there but they were leaving as it was being outsourced. My opposite number who used to be based in the Crown Court in Maidstone was worried about the future of the service as so many people were leaving. After leaving the CPS I did look into applying for the Probation Service but they were only employing people with experience in Probation work. It seemed like they were looking to re-recruit those who had left. The Criminal Justice System has been systematically hammered financially for years and it is not surprising to see the wheels coming off.
  11. I shall download the other albums too then. Thanks for the heads up. There is one track on The Who album called Hero Ground Zero which is pure vintage Who. They will never be the same without Moon and Entwhistle but there is plenty here to please old Who fans.
  12. Ah, so it was really Corbyn who came out with the piccanniny quote and said that Muslim women looked like letter boxes and bank robbers and called gay people Tank Top Bum Boys? Brilliant!
  13. I wouldn’t crow so loudly before the result if I were you Wes. You wouldn’t want to end up with egg on your face would you?
  14. It is above Prince Andrew, who spent a lot of time with Epstein, a convicted paedophile and sex trafficker.
  15. Not heard of them but just played the album and agree with you! Also just played the new Who album. You might think that it is time Townshend and Daltrey retired but it is actually quite good.
  16. Sadly I am all three, so that’s me buggered then!
  17. There have been several but Zlatan was gut wrenching in the extreme. If ever we deserved to win a cup final that was the game. We played superbly and despite having a perfectly good goal disallowed we put in a full shift. I watched it with a United supporter, he was embarrassed at the end and said that we deserved to win.
  18. He is, but still people will vote to give him the top job. Go figure?
  19. It isn’t just the monarch though is it? There is everything that goes with it. I quite like the idea of voting for a non-political Head of State. Someone to poddle around the country opening municipal buildings and wining and dining the likes of Trump etc. Can you imagine how much fun it would be to see Trump arrive out of Air Force One only to be greeted on the tarmac by Katie Price?
  20. I’d be a fully fledged Republican only I would want to see people like Blair, Cameron, May or Johnson as head of state. Maybe if we could chose a non politician? Someone like David Attenborough.
  21. Charles seems to be dropping strong hints that the Royal Family will be slimmed down in future. No bad thing but they ought to look at the whole thing. How many palaces do you need for example? Sell off a lot of the goodies and give the money back to the public. Reduce the royal list drastically. Pay tax on your income. Perhaps then it will stave off a move towards republicanism which will surely become more of an issue once Her Maj croaks.
  22. As a rule of thumb it is probably easier just to assume everything he says is either a lie or wrong. It was good to see Neil take him down after the Farage interview though. However trying to shame him into an interview isn’t likely to work on a man who has no shame.
  23. Than you. It’s a shame that Andre Bent’s parents can’t say the same thing.
  24. No. I don’t live there and haven’t done so for several years. But don’t let that stop you making crass remarks Whelk.
  25. No need to worry about them Whelk. I am sure they have plenty of security. Unlike Andre Bent.
