  1. I would love a “failure” like that. Not sure how you can compare Pep with Martin. Whatever you think about Pep, he is one of the top managers ever. Martin has just one promotion from the Championship to his name.
  2. Palace were my local team growing up and most of my classmates supported them. They were my Portsmouth as many of them gave me stick for supporting Southampton. Over the years I have willed them failure but was pleased for them yesterday and sent congrats texts to those I am still in contact with. As others have said, it is good to see a “smaller” club win the trophy, it’s what the FA Cup is all about. I started watching the match at the penalty miss and it had the air of an upset from that point on. Although Henderson should probably not been on the pitch at that point, his save and his, and their defensive performance from then on, was epic. It took me back to 1976 when the final whistle blew and you realise in that moment why you invest so much time and emotion in supporting your club, whoever they are. Before the game I was hoping Palace would lose for all those years of playground taunting. At the final whistle I finally let go of my antipathy. Good luck to Palace and their fans. They deserve their day in the spotlight.
  3. You really are incredibly stupid. Where have I said that Musk Farage and Trump should be killed? Yes, I think that the world would be a better place without these people, but you will not find a post from me calling for them to be murdered. As ever, you are 100% wrong. Dummy.
  4. One down… https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c780x08450lo.amp This is what you are likely to get when you vote Reform. Mind you, some might have voted for him because of his views.
  5. To be fair, the studies have found that Reform voters in general do have a lower than average IQ.
  6. Even James Cleverley called the “Rwanda Experiment” ‘batshit crazy’ when it was first mooted. Think about it. If people are not deterred by the prospect of drowning in the channel, why would they be deterred by the slim prospect of being sent to Rwanda? The numbers mentioned meant that you had a slim chance of going even if planes were getting off the ground. It was an expensive stunt. People have been coming here either is small boats or the back of Lorrie’s for years. It is technically impossible to stop them arriving. Yes, more needs to be done to stop them getting into the boats in the first place, but the major problem in recent times has been what to do with them when they get here. The Tories let the problem mount by not processing the claims quickly enough leaving the situation ripe for exploitation by the likes of Farage (and if you think that he could solve the problem overnight that is another notion that should be filed under ‘batshit crazy’. People are entitled to seek asylum here. We need to find of way of dealing with those applications without people having to put their lives at risk and we need to speed up the process so that people are not held in limbo at great expense for months. It also makes perfect sense for people to be able to work here whilst waiting for their claims to be processed. They could then contribute to the economy rather than be a drain on it.
  7. Perhaps Donald has added the Vatican to his wish list along with Canada, Greenland and the Panama Canal?
  8. I have been suffering with back problems for a while myself (not as bad as Weston’s though) so I have a lot of sympathy for him. (Back to normal tomorrow 😉)
  9. They have just cut away from the news of the trade deal to go to the Vatican. Henry V111 will be spinning in his grave. He’s a bloody yank too (but not Pope Donald).
  10. Couldn’t agree more. It would be great to tell Trump where to stick his tariffs, but now that we are out of the EU we need to deal with these people.
  11. You would think he would get some credit, but given the negativity from some quarters about the India deal I wouldn’t hold your breath. God knows where the Brexiteers thought we were going to do trade deals with after leaving the EU? The Tories had plenty of time to come up with these deals. Good to seem them finally happening.
  12. Just returned from a session at my Thursday lunchtime watering hole. They sell freshly made pizza on Thursdays. On the menu today were VE Day specials comprising of - spam, tomatoes, onions and peas. Sadly no dried egg!
  13. Sounds like you have been through it. Glad to hear that you are being well looked after and all the best for a full and speedy recovery.
  14. Clearly we are not Manchester United, but we are still a draw for many managers who are on the way up. The trick is to find one that actually is, rather than thinks that he is.
  15. Hammer on head. Sadly the same people who were responsible for giving us Brexit are probably going to be responsible for giving us Reform of the ruling party at the next election. Joined up thinking just doesn’t work for them which is why Farage gets air time. The immigration figures are coming down but you won’t hear a peep out of them about that. They will just focus on the small boats because Farage has taped into the “give them an enemy to blame the fact that they have a shit life” on. You just have to look at the way that they have swallowed Farage’s misrepresented view of the India trade view to see that they are not bothered about the truth. They just want their prejudices reinforced. It is what Trump does in the US. It is what Farage does here. And people still swallow it despite their lies being exposed daily. Thick as mince, the lot of them.
  16. I think you meant infants rather than primary MLG?
  17. So immigrants are going to have to demonstrate an A level understanding of the English language. That will delight a few posters on here but should we export those indigenous Brits who don’t have A level standard English as well?
  18. How would that work in women’s football though? Some would be disadvantaged. 😉
  19. Or you could have a line x yards from the goal line which you have to behind when the ball is played to you to prevent the game from becoming too stretched. My fear about no offside is that you will end up with 20 players spread from one end of the pitch to the other. If you reduce the area that will at least compress the area of play.
  20. For a tall guy he is very poor in the air and his positional sense is appalling. We really should have sold him on years ago. Passion and being ok at blocking occasionally is all well and good on a Sunday morning on Hackney Marshes, but it really doesn’t cut it in professional football nowadays.
  21. For a man who prides himself on “the art of the deal” he doesn’t seem to have the slightest idea of how business and trade actually works.
  22. Of course you are struggling Batman. Both sides have brown skin.
  23. The coastal Kent areas are full of London/cockney accents. The locals call them DFLs (down from London).
  24. Surprise, surprise. The Brexit trumpeting right wing media are giving the trade deal with India a kicking, despite it being an actual “benefit” of leaving the EU!
  25. I think people have a reasonable idea if they look at manifestos but my point is, again, many people just listen to the soundbites and if a certain message resonates with them, like stopping the boats, that is what will ring their bell (even if untrue). Look at the Brexit vote. A lot of people voted for things that were never remotely likely to happen, or chose to ignore the clear and obvious downsides. According to the feedback, many of the people who voted leave before would now vote remain. Rupert Lowe made the point that Reform has no clear policies other than on immigration. Does anyone really know what their new councillors are going to do locally I wonder? Protest votes are all well and good, but not so much if they make matters worse. This is (was) a strong Tory ward for local government. The votes went - Reform 2471 48% Independent 1047 20% Tory 859 17% Labour 459 9% LibDem 356 7% From what I hear there wasn’t a great deal of canvassing outside of Ashford. Just mainly leaflet drops. We only had leaflets from the Tories and the Independent candidate. If my neighbours voted to the Refirm candidate, the only firm commitment was about stopping the boats. Something the councillors have no control over. As you say. Democracy is a bitch.
