Maybe I have a selective memory but don't recall Fox getting much stick on our way up? It was only really when we arrived in the Premiership that his frailties were exposed wasn't it?

We will have to agree to disagree. I think he often gets caught on the wrong side of a player or plays someone onside. He is not the worst defender we have ever had by any means but I doubt if he would get a starting place in many other Premiership clubs. Fine as a squad player but I don't think we need worry about losing him any time soon.

Every player makes mistakes and I would say that Maya makes more mistakes that lead to goals against than most. It isn't just the misplace passes with him, it is his lack of positional nous and poor decision making too.

How good could/should it be? Surely it is as good (or bad) as it is?

You don't have to like people to appreciate their achievements Benjii. The bloke clearly delivered the goods and quickly too but I can see why is wasn't universally liked. I didn't care for his methods and what to me was always a family club suddenly became this corporate machine on his watch. It feels like a family club again which shows that you don't have to trample on tradition or to be a hard nosed bastard to run a successful football club. There is old saying that you cant make an omelette without breaking a few eggs. I lost count of how many eggs were broken during his reign. Is it really so hard to get on with past legends? How hard can it be to see that fans buy into tradition and love their colours? If you have any PR savvy whatsoever you don't have to be a genius to see that it is a good idea to keep the local media sweet. I never met the man and cant say that I was ever personally wronged by him (apart from trying to make us look like Liverpool) but I could see that there was a massive ego at work and that sometimes my way of the highway isn't the best way to operate. SFC is doing well, is in good hands and has got its heart and soul back. For that I am thankful.

Didn't England rotate Clemence and Shilton some years ago? Not ideal but probably works better at International level.

Makes perfect sense for us I think. He might not want to sit on the bench but who knows, perhaps he might here? We can only ask.

Mrs SOG and I stayed in Midhurst last weekend (The Spread Eagle, can recommend it) and on the trip across Kent and Sussex saw the odd Union Jack and COSG flying in people's gardens. As St.G mentioned the other day, virtually ever fekker in the country flies the Stars & Stripes in the USA and it got me to thinking why? You don't see Poles or Nigerians flying their flags here apart from the Embassys (well I don't anyway) so why do we bother and why do the Yanks bother so much? I am proud of what my country has achieved over the years but don't feel the need to fly a flag to prove it. Anyone here fly the flag and if so, why? By the way, I don't have an issue with anyone flying any flag they want on their property. Should add that I spent some time in Seattle a few years back and the lady I was living with used to fly the S & S as did most of her neighbours (or neighbors). I went on a shopping trip one day and managed to find a Union Jack which from that day forth used to fly from her veranda when I was in residence. Confused the f*ck out of the locals.

You have to feel for the Hurricane, the Paul McCartney to John Lennon's Spitfire. The Spitfire was the cool, sex, glamorous one but the Hurricane did more of the hard work and deserves as much if not more credit in the Battle of Britain.

Gotta love that tight security! Back in the 70s I worked at The Times in Grays Inn Road. It was the height of the IRA bombing in London and we used to get 2 or three bomb scares a week. There were huge plate glass windows along the front of the building and we all used to congregate in front of them! If a bomb had of gone off we all would have been shredded! Later we found out a couple of messengers in the post room phoned in the calls and used to go round the offices stealing stuff, bless 'em.
