  1. Probably posted on here already - but I can't keep up with this thread, so do ignore if it's a repeat... but the Skates on PO are annoyed with the National Football Museum, who have jumped the gun and cut the Skates out of their map of UK football.(http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m7zh67Je0t1qf9pl6o1_500.jpg ). Got to hope that they are ITK.
  2. Thank you MLG, you're one of the more informed and interesting posters on here. Will be very few games far shy of capacity next season, and no-doubt this makes the case for expansion stronger. Trolls, hang your heads, you have made yourselves look stupid yet again. Mods, can you start imposing instant bans for anyone using the term 'mong'? I'm fine with swearing, but discrimination should be stamped on. Sent from my Lumia 800 using Board Express
  3. From a B&H fan (http://www.northstandchat.com/showthread.php?250070-Pompey/page2) : "Have to meet them to have sympathy, then I go through the following Question: "How many times have you won the FA cup?" Answer = 2: Reply "No, the second one doesnt count. GFY" Answer = 1: Then Question "When?" Answer = 1939 or 'a long time ago' "You sir are a true fan aware of the history of your club and accepting that your more recent successes were cheating. You have my deepest sympathies and if there is ever anything I can do to help you with the formation and funding of AFC Portsmouth please let me know" Answer = "2008" or "A few years back" or "dead recent" -- "I am genuinely confused as to whether I wish you or your club to die first. I am also somewhat puzzled that you have not started supporting another club for you have no soul. Please start running in case I decide the best thing to do for humanity's sake is to beat you to death with a bell."
  4. Just guessing here - Fox is an acceptable PL quality left back - he's not brilliant, but he can certainly do a job. Shaw looks to have a great future if he fulfils his potential. Left back isn't a position we are in desperate need for more cover (certainly not in comparision with Centre Backs). I'll be shocked if either Harding or Dickson make the 25 player list. I think Buttner was being considered for his flexibility - he sounds like he would have provided cover for not just Fox, but also Lallana and Richardson. Of course the other thing that has changed over the last few days is that we now have depth in the right back slot - Buttner's potential to fill in there is less of a selling point. It could be to appease Shaw, but I think there are a number of other possibilities. Perhaps something about Buttner raised alarm bells (something he said? or a doubt about his fitness or health?). Perhaps we have our eyes set on a different player? (I'd guess a left winger is more likely than a left back ). Who knows... but I do find it strange for the blame to be pinned on Shaw when it could be any number of other explainatons.
  5. If it's good enough for... http://defensiveminded.wordpress.com/2011/08/07/barcelonas-zonal-marking-at-corners/
  6. Perhaps with Butterfield going back the other way? He's a bit of a cult figure at Palace isn't he?
  7. 3 years and 4 days... how much fun has this thread given me
  8. Down from our 14th place in (16th inc Rangers and Celtic) we got in 2002/3.
  9. Just for the hell of it: http://www.easystereogrambuilder.com/_Temp/vwq2np31.jpg
  10. Think the admins should get a 'do you like the new kit' poll up right away. Just to see how many people hate it before it's revealed.
  11. This thread was improving the other day as well... now look at it. Strange how just 2 or 3 bad posters can wreck a thread. Anyhow, floating fans, they do exist, in surprisingly large numbers. I know two lads from Verwood, who claimed to be Cherries, but then proceeded to attend Premier games when they fancied it. Much to my disgust they even joined the phew on occasion, but only when they were in the Premier League. No doubt they will be at one or two of our games next season.
  12. Good points Kraken. If we expanded, cheap pricing will almost certainly be introduced for less attractive games. However, the more attractive games will be priced at a higher rate. As such over the course of the season, a season ticket holder will still be the cheapest way to see all of the games. Additionally, it's likely that certain areas of the ground will be specified for the discounted tickets - particularlly high in the corners. When you factor that in the benefit to holding a season ticket is even more apparent - in theory nobody should end up feeling alienated. Season ticket holders will end up with the cheapest tickets to view every game of the season - they will also have a pick of the best views. Irregular visitors (children OAPs etc) will get cheap tickets with average views to the least attractive games. The club gets to maximise both income and attendance. Everyone wins.
  13. Have I missed the post where someone has claimed us to be bigger than Villa or Everton? I've looked for it, but it doesn't seem to exist. I have seen MLG pointing out that we probably won't be far off of Everton attendance this year, despite us being capped by the capacity of St Mary's, and no doubt, finish below them in the league. Which, seems quite likely. Also, I got shouted down for my last post yesterday. Apparently nobody is now openly arguing against expansion, just passionately against the probably of it happening. Is that right? I remember the same people passionately arguing against Cortese two years ago ; then against the possibility of back-to-back promotion. It seems to me that many still find it hard to take a chairman at his word. Cortese has certainly lived up to his word so far, why shouldn't we trust him to continue to do so? He stated that he was considering expansion options in 2010. We have now been given a glimpse of at least one option, indicating that something however small has been processed. It may never happen, but I'd suggest, unless anything forces Cortese's hand, that we'll hear more about expansion plans over the next year or so. Anyhow, the forum bullies aren't interested in such, and only seem to want to play a game of who's got the biggest club, so I'll return to their favored subject. In the mid 90s, who were the 'bigger' club, Villa, Leeds, or Chelsea?
  14. I find the relentless negativity and lack of ambition shown by the loudest on this thread really rather depressing. Thank goodness the club seem to be showing some forward thinking, and aren't subject to the same lack of enthusiasm that many on here are showing. I don't understand the motivation of those on here who seem to be arguing so hard against expansion?
  15. Meat free for 6 years now. Environmental reasons, followed by health and cost. Don't miss it at all.
  16. Who are the 'build it now brigade' ? Previous debates have always been about whether we build... not when we build...
  17. It's the spelling in the title that gets me...
  18. I'm not concerned in the slightest. In fact, having come through what we have over the past few years, even an instant return to the Championship doesn't overly worry me. I just hope whatever happens Nigel is given time. However, I feel Nigel is up to the task, and my heart says we will start off punching above our weight, and shock a few teams, before having a 3 month lull in November-Jan. A few purchases in the Winter window will see us finish clear of the bottom three, with some on here depressed that without our winter form we'd have made the Europa or something. I also predict that Cortese will continue be slated by the small number of haters whenever he does anything (literally anything). Alpine will annoy people all summer (he fills the transfer windows with doom, even more than he manages to fill his replica top), Dune will continue his trolling (but with less people biting than last season), while Turkish will continue with his sudo-ironic 'Champions League' nonsesne for months to come *****il even he realises that the 'joke' was getting stale on it's first outing). Oh, and this summer Saints will make three more signings, an unknown European 20-something keeper for the number 13 shirt, a proven centre back, and a nippy winger on a free. Finally, Bournemouth will get a bye in the first game of the season.
  19. Baj, anything changed with the Tapatalk integration (Google Android)? It's been working fine for me for a year or so now, but stopped working a week or so ago (the app continues to work fine with other forums, which suggests to me that it's not the app that's changed). When I use tapatalk to connect to the site, I still see the site structure (forums etc), but each forum now returns 0 threads... NB, this is only a minor thing, and more likely than not something to do with my cr*ppy handset... Cheers, Joensuu.
  20. As an employee, you'd think twice about joining any company with less than 10 staff. If you did join you'd probably view it as a temporary position. I'm thinking this could actually make things more difficult for small businesses. (out of interest, does anyone know if you can hire non-sales staff on an OTE basis, with their wage directly linked to the money they generate?)
  21. I've had fun over the last 7 years. The Championship doesn't fill me with the dread it did in 2005. Even if we go straight back down, we will go down wealthy, and in a good position to press on. We shouldn't shy away from offering bigger contracts, but we should ensure that there are good relegation clauses imbedded into them - I want all new contracts to include a 50% reduction in wage clause for any relegation. Would I take finishing 4th from bottom now? As relegation doesn't worry me, no.. I'd rather we risked a bit more, and aimed a bit higher.
  22. The honourable thing to do would be to continue with Kelvin as our first choice. From a performance perspective, the sensible thing to do would be to buy better (if better can be found). Perhaps a balance can be struck - bring in a younger keeper (c. 24-27) who is already on a par with Kelvin. Kelvin can start the season on the pitch, and there should be competition for places. The only problem will be finding such a keeper - there are probably several who meet this billing availiable on the continent. Forecast should be paid up or shipped of. The decision on Bart should be made by the training staff; he can be third choice and loaned out, or released.
  23. I refuse to use ignore, even the worst of contributors can sometimes post something worth reading. I would rather we had the ability to rate individual, with posts attracting too many negative votes needing to be expanded before they can be viewed. Additionally scores could be accumulated by posters, meaning the number next to your avatar could represent the quality rather than quantity of your posts.
