Be interesting to see how the US handles Trump after he's kicked out of office regarding his criminal activities. His presidency has brought shame upon the most powerful nation, he's little more than a pampered, narcissistic misogynistic facist who has taken the country back 50 years, although I will say he's never wavered from his original dogma that attracted so many Americans to vote him in first time round. What did for him this time around was maybe the Covid idiocy, who knows, most Americans very rarely look beyond their own borders when equating world events (there be dragons etc..), and the "America first" mantra , in the light of the Covid crisis, disintegrated into a fiasco, with individual states bidding against each other for PPE on Ebay, then being outbid by the Federal Govt. States that did aquire PPE deliveries had to hide them away for fear on confiscation by a military force directed by people in shades all called Johnson. The f****r will get away with though, old age will will do for him much sooner than the US legal system can get it's act together.

Well we made hard work of that game, but a fair scoreline in the end. Pleased for Adams, good shimmy and finish for his goal, but did little else. Ings class strike again, followed by an inexplicably poor penalty. I have to say Bournemouth were very poor, playing league one football for most of the game, and deserve to go down. Despite being a local club I've no feelings either way, I admire what EH has done over the past few seasons but I wouldn't be surprised if they dropped even further down the leagues if they don't win at Everton. Thought Vest had a good game, usually the fall guy on here but he was solid enough coping with their aerial game quite well. Our form since the "restart" has been outstanding, I feel we are a couple of decent signings away from being a solid top 10 club.

Can't blame RH for making a few changes, but worrying lack of depth in the squad at the moment. KWP looked good, full of energy and ideas, Vokins did OK. Smallbone average as was Obi and Adams, and Hoj was just woeful as usual : 2 fluffed chances, poor passing, he really is not a very good player and needs to go ASAP. If a "big" club are willing to spunk away £30M or whatever it is thanks very much. Still we dominated the game and deserved to win against a very poor BHA side.

How he hasn't been wacked I don't know. A grotesque amalgamation of Robert Mugabe and George III, the worst US leader in history (beating off some pretty stiff competition). Still a vast swathe of Americans seem drawn to his rhetoric, America first (f*** everyone else), keep out the Latin American drug dealing rapist scum (except the ones to serve fast food or do the cleaning), solve gun crime by arming everyone in the country, and attribute every criticism and allegation of illegal activity as fake news and conspiracy. U S A ---- U S A .....

It does seem a little odd that the BLM explosion is happening following the death of a black American man at the hands of a white policeman. This is hardly a new occurance in the US , and what probably started out as a protest against (white ?) police brutality is now a general call for racial equality in all areas of society worldwide. I think its a noble but largely unachievable goal for many reasons. The negative aspects of our society that stifle the progress of BAME men & women (social deprevation, "poverty", drugs, gang culture etc) affect white people as much if not more. If racism is now largely a subconcious reaction then it goes both ways and wont be eradicated any time soon. Is there a winner in these two scenarios : 1) You didn't get the job largely because of your skin colour, the employers a racist but insists there were more suitable candicates 2) You got the job largely because of your skin colour, the employer needs to fulfill diversity quotas and take their place among the woke worthies People are not "equal" in this world, never have been and never will be. People have vastly different talents, or in my case no talent at all for anything much. The Marxist experiment tried in many countries has proved to be an utter failure and a disaster for the people involved, and spawned a political elite far more remote and unaccountable than anything a capitalist western culture has managed. I'd like to know just how the pure equality utopia is to be achieved, where by our very nature we are all competitive with the animal instinct for survival and self improvement, and yes, greed....

This is an interesting topic, despite the debate descending towards the usual tit-for-tat exchanges between a few posters. Amongst the bullshit , paranoia and social media witch hunting there is a serious issue here, and it concerns black Americans and their struggle for "equality". The plight of black Americans bears little comparison to those in the UK however. The first "Windrush" immigrants arrived here as welcome, much needed and free men and women, with jobs and homes waiting for them, albeit mostly at the lower end of the social spectrum, as Britain has a chronic labour shortage after WW2. It's true a very small minority took offense at this steady influx of foreigners, and in so doing besmirched the general good name of this country. However, the far right have had so little general influence down the years that they're seen more of a laughing stock than a serious threat to common decency (re the brownshirts in 30's for example). We have lived in a tolerant society that openly embraces many aspects of our miriad cultures. My life would be a lot poorer without Ska and curry that's for sure, as shallow as that sounds.... I may be missing something here but it seems that where once we reacted to racism, now we actively seek it out. Statues should stand, Alf Garnet should be aired if only to remind us of our past ignorance and signal the progress we as a nation have made. To appologise or attempt to erase our past is missing the point entirely and is counter productive ultimately. We seem to be on a very dangerous path where free speech is being censored however. People are having their lives ruined for a bad joke or a misconstrued comment, Tim Hunt is a good example of a victim of the woke Nazis. The police will happily send 6 men to kick your door in if your accused of a racist comment, but tell you to fuck off if you've been burgled claiming they don't have the resources. And "taking the knee" before every PL game, it's getting boring now and the effect is diluted every time it happens. The FA had a kick it out campaign which was enough IMO, it's not as if black players are under represented in this country any more.....

........ F*** me Watford 2 up

We miss Redmond, and JWP at right back isn't working. Obi needs to put himself about a bit more to be an effective front man, and Boufal was poor. We did play some good football today in patches, but again defensive errors have cost us. We looked better with the back 3 switch but by that time WHU were more defensive it seemed. Thats 3 less than average performances in a row now (we wern't great v Villa). We aren't getting more players anytime soon and its a shame the momentum we had seems to have stalled a bit lately. I expect us to beat Newcastle though

Terrorist Attacks - WARNING: CONTAINS DISTRESSING IMAGES

The initial thread digressions have opened up a lively debate ! The sentences handed down to some of the scum involved may seem Ok in some cases, but when you consider they will only serve half the sentence it's a slap on the wrist in most cases. We're talking about systematic abduction, rape and sexual assault on under age girls. They will be out at most in under 12 years, still relatively young men, some involved will be out in 2 years. The poor girls lives have been ruined beyond repair. It's a joke, why not give them a pedo w**k mag along with the Quran for their bedtime reading. Many will emerge from jail and re-offend for sure, as an "under resourced" probation service loses track of them but they did say they were sorry and wouldn't do it again. Is it a "Muslim problem", b***ocks, these people are paedophiles and always will be. -
I was thinking of the divorce settlement........

I guess we now know why he's been over-exposing himself on TV these past few years, squirrelling away as much dosh as he can before the s**t hit the fan. Couldn't care less where he likes to put his d**k , seems like a nice chap to me, must hurt his family though.

Terrorist Attacks - WARNING: CONTAINS DISTRESSING IMAGES

The warped idealogy of Islamic extremism cannot be reasoned with or pacified, short of destroying Israel and the whole world converting. On a historical basis its a tragedy that one of the great cultures in human history is tainted with such pointless barbarism. It's a battle that cannot be won completely, as far as this country is concerned we are seen as a legimate enemy due to our support of the US and hence Israel, our involvement in the Gulf war, Iraq, Afghanistan etc. Indoctrinated people are not rational, that goes for all religions. I'm comfortable for terrorists to be shot dead, those that escape their immediate journey to paradise should be given whole life jail terms, the risk of re-offending is clearly too high, and the "root causes" are complex and impossible to irradicate. We live in a genuine multi-cultural tolerant society, the fact that mosques haven't been attacked en-masse after every terrorist murder proves that, and generally we disdain the far right bigots as much as the religious nutters. -
Er.... like Iraq ?

These people are f*****g nuts. What about us poor blokes who can't join in the discussion on last nights Love Island or Eastenders cos we really have zero interest in either. Are working women really feeling downtrodden because they don't understand offside or the lbw law and are unable to contribute to the debate, which in reality is probably a 3 minute exchange at the coffee machine in the morning. Why are these non-entities, who do exist in the real working world, given the time of day anyway?

I travel on the M6 regularly, which has been a traffic cone utopia for years now with long stretches of speed restrictions , and still not due to finish for years. What moron thought it would be a good idea to abandon a long established emergency stopping lane and replace it with short laybys a mile apart, if you get a puncture or your ECU packs up chances are you will be marooned in oncoming traffic with nowhere to go. Having witnessed the slow developments on that road I assumed a "smart" motorway would be constant speed cameras and speed restrictions often for no apparent reason, annoying yes but just about tolerable. I wonder how many people have to die in needless accidents before the penny drops. What with HS2 this county sure knows how to waste money.

From the outset people sentenced to "life" were often released after 10-15 years. Longer terms were introduced for more atrocious cases, the Moors murderers, Yorkshire Ripper, Dennis Neilson etc, where the Home Secretary was empowered to order "whole life" terms. Since 2002 the presiding judge sets the minimum term on life sentences for adults, previously being in the power of the Home Secretary, following human rights considerations from the House of Lords in a particular appeal case, later upheld by the European Court of Human Rights. There are guidelines for sentencing, but judges are not obliged to follow them, although they must give an explanation when they don't. 15 years should be the starting point for murder, so I can sympathize with the family of Lord D's friend who, given the MO might have expected a much longer term. Anyone capable of such brutality surely has it in them to do it again given the right circumstances. It's a difficult balance however between what is seen as justice, and a chance of redemption for the criminal, although those released remain on parole for life.
-
Agree totally, the prospect of spending all or most or ones life in prison is a frightening and hopeless prospect. We should be proud as a country that our police do not walk around with deadly weapons generally and the state does not put people to death, it's morally questionable and innocent people will inevitably die - the very reasons it was abolished on the first place. The downside is the parole system which in some cases is not used properly and is subject to political influence (Ian Huntly will die in prison, Kenneth Noye may not for example), public safety is put at risk due to poor decisions by judges passing sentence and the probation service.

Well whatever happens we can blame Camerons sphincter giving way during the rise of UKIP. If anything the Brexit saga has shown just how out of touch politicians are with the masses, DC never imagined in his wildest nightmares that the people would vote to leave (neither did Boris), but like it or not that was the case. I think referendums have proven too divisive to be used again in their current format, like the Scottish issue the result was close and virtually split the voters down the middle give or take a couple of %. The question for me is that will the result really make a difference to the issues that people voted on (mainly immigration, lets face it)...? Will we see curly cucumbers in our supermarkets again, will the 47 EU directives on the humble teaspoon be revised. I sincerely hope so.

I remember a documentary about this sicko about a year ago. The evidence used was his online activity regarding his crimes, rather than direct testimony from the victims, which meant they didn't have to go through any more stress being interviewed and giving evidence which was a small mercy to those poor children. We all know what will happen to the assailant though, unfortunately....

Britain's Next Top Prime Minister - Labour Leadership Election 2020.
kyle04 replied to CB Fry's topic in The Lounge
Emily Thornbury stood up well to Andrew Neills rather curt grilling tonight, but whoever is elected will be left with the Corbyn legacy hanging over them for some time. The world has changed but it seems that politicians form either side do not have the gravitas they used to have. The traditional leftist politics of Labour do not appeal to enough people to win an election, the New Labour experiment was exciting at the time but ended in failure and permanent ingomony for Blair (knife sharpener to the butcher of Baghdad, sorry Middle East peace envoy) and disarray in the party. It seems they have nowhere to go and may be unelectable for a very long time. -
We've being doing that since the cold war, our only "power" in the world is that we are somehow still a member of the UN permanent security council, which given that virtually all our industries are foreign owned and our remaining armed forces would struggle to defend our six yard box counts for very little. For the govt to say we can't apply our tax laws properly because it would upset Trump and his corrupt cronies shows how far this country has declined, and indicates a very sinister and cynical nature of the world today. At least we have football to distract us from such trivialities....
