yep they buy their own goods, much like the French. I don't know the ins and outs of Polish coal to our own, but I cannot believe that the power companies were happy to use the Polish coal if it worked out more expensive than our own. Ok you believe Maggie wanted to destroy the coal industry at all costs but the power industry and industry as a whole were all not in the conspiracy. When you go out shopping please just buy UK produced items only, as you will be costing your British co workers jobs by not doing so, it would be hypocritical not to of course. We're you around in the 70' s ? It was not Britains finest hour, where the major industries were constantly striking for the minutest reason.we had the Union barons playing politics, they weren't looking after their comrades as much as trying to bring governments down.

The main reason the coal mines were closed was not to get rid of the unions but as the product they produced was more expensive than the foreign imports. It must have been a convenient excuse to take on the (especially as she had seen previous governments paralysed by the miners in previous years) but If the the industry was profitable it would still be thriving and there would not have been reason to take them on. Before people get on their high horses, I suspect everyday we make decisions that may cost jobs at home as we chose the cheaper foreign import. I do my best to buy British made products above the foreign item but in the main the price differential is normally to far adrift.if it is close I try to buy the British made item but.......

If you were around in the early to mid 70's Iam sure you would understand how the citizens of the UK were starting to get sick and tired of the strife caused by the Unions power. The electorate wanted something to be done to stem that power that held the nation to ransom. Nobody wanted the strife that the conflict caused but sadly it needed to be done to stop the ridiculous way the governments were left at the mercy of the far left unions. The balance now is about right, the working people need to be protected but not at the cost of the rest of us.

Free taxi rides LOL yep the club and council would pay for that

the sad thing about all the decent miners they let themselves be led by Gormly and Scargills who threatened the normal person in the street who could see they were trying to bring governments down. They were a threat to our democratic society at the time. I have the greatest respect to miners and am saddened we import coal. I was talking to an engineer last week who did a load of work in the Middle East in the 70,s . He said how the British Steel that was sent is still in the desert even now as it was so poor quality and the Germans came and took the business. All down to bad management and bad practices of the 1970's

But isn't that the problem with all taxes, not all being fair?
-
True but in the main the 3low wage earners would be living next to an old lady struggling on a pension. Surely in a fair society we all should pay in.
-
lol look at the upset maths teacher who gets all uppity when he gets a bit back , someone who likes to dish it out but can't take it back lol
-
strangely in a way we got that as the government just upped vat when they scrapped the poll tax. No tax is fair but the principle of everyone paying is fairer than the way it is now. We had 3wage earners in my house at 1stage all using street lighting , council services, the parks and local facilities and paying the same council tax as the old lady next door. Is that fair? Surely very un-socialist
-
did you say that as you looked in the mirror?
-
Mike the poll tax is a fair tax.everyoone pays in,somebody who lives at home alone should not pay as much council tax as a household with 2or3 wage earners.they use 2or3times the services a person who lives alone does
-
that is some mark of remembrance as they have been doing so at home games for the last 50years
-
add to that the last gasp Boro equalizer
-
Why did NA not bring on the big forward, he had nothing to lose to go for it but took off Robson-kanu . To be fair to Redknapp he would have gone for it and if they had got 1 goal back who knows what would have happened. They went out with a whimper IMo
-
. Getting promotion was brilliant and that will be remembered but to me not to put NA in the 'great' category.
-
That I can agree with but the same would have been said qbout Readings chances. The position we had got ourselves in and well ahead of Reading it was poor not to win the league.
-
so you think we should have been overtaken by Reading??? Or am I misunderstanding your post
-
Kevin Phillips was really gutted for QPR . Did he play for them? I think when Harry took over QPR were 4points from safety, if so all those millions and they have gone backwards lol
-
I might be 'a nutter' in your poor tired head but we all look at things differently. He did well on both occasions but not a great, both times we should have won the league especially last season.I can only assume that NC thought so as well.
-
I don't get a box of tissues out every time NA is mentioned. He did well he was not great, there is no way we should not have won the CCC last season not doing so was a failure

Adkins or Pochetinno; if we could choose today
OldNick replied to Miltonroader07's topic in The Saints
watching the game it was clear that players like le fonder were winning headers against our centre backs, to not bring on the big forward they had on the bench was a poor decision in my opinion. To take off Robson-kanu was also odd IMO . 2 down and you don't throw the dice was poor, HR would have gone for it and sent on 2attackers. The way we were so nervy meant that if they had got 1 goal back we would have been on the rack. They went out with a whimper and the poor sub selection was very much like his tenure at Saints -
Nobody is airbrushing NA out of history but as time goes on the penny drops that his achievements were good but not great. We should have won at least 1trophy under him. We have moved to a better level of performance already, Iam hopeful we will do even better when he has 'his' squad next season
-
i. Don't think so, Stoke and Sunderland play in that style kit and it is not recognisable as Saints first as it was when we were in the top league before
-
IMO you are wrong whilst I agree NA may have got a better result against QPR I do not believe he would have overseen positive results against Man C Chelsea home and Liverpool.as for getting anything today in a pressure game I doubt that as well. It is all opinion of course but the poignant fact is that without those wins against the big teams we would be right in the mire now
