I think he is my biggest hero ever to play for Saints and thast takes something to be above MLT. It saddens me to think such a great man is now so frail. And to think there are people squabbling at our club about a bloody picture on the wall

do you know the difference between a **** (male chicken as filter stops the wording)and a chicken drumstick? (this i suggest you ask the ladies) when they say No, you reply Do you want to come on a picnic with me then. It makes them smile and thats a good start. It will then rely on your personality to do the rest.....ohhhh

I agree with the sentiments BUT it is not any old picture of a train but a gift to the club in respect that we were honoured to be first to play at their new stadium. If they had given us a pennant would we throw it in a drawer. I suspect RL took it that the club should respect another clubs gesture and put it up in the boardroom.Afterall the fans never go in there and probably only officials of other clubs who would understand. as for the picture of LM, i would like it put up in the stadium alongside pictures of WGS Hoddle,Ball, and any other manager who walked out on us for greener pastures.

Its 11 men kicking a bag of wind against 11 mercenaries from another town. We are old enough to understand that.

MB fantastic thread, this is what makes this site fun.

The night of the long knives may well be first.

Is that a sweet dream or a nightmare

seems so.

I would rather him have stayed but we dont know what the wages loan fee was to be. You have to face up to the fact that the club is just about in the category of a Big Issue seller. As soon as there was a contest for his services we were always going to come second. Cork cannot say he was not given a wonderful reception by the fans and so his words about not wanting him ring hollow to me. I want Jan gone and RL is making a bad mistake not doing so.I cannot support his reasoning on that, but i do support him trying to cut our cloth.

he's an evenhanded pundit, good of the BBC to roll him out
-
Saints 'didnt want him enough' In todays game i suspect it means we didnt want to pay a kings ransom for him, where Watford did. The fans showed they wanted him and so he snubbed us as much as he did the club. He would never be a Saints player as long as he has a whole in his ..... He looks good but there is a common thread he played for S****horpe -relegated , he played for us looks like we may well be and now Watford are in the mix, strange game football.

Oh come on the sides put out were of different abilities.

MB I was go9ing to take a leaf out of your book and go to the bar 15 minutes before half time and so only do a 30 minute stint.

either way we're stuffed

I watched with interest during the game with Man utd the away fans having myand others seats were not constantly being hassled to sit down. At no time were the stewards attempting to get the fans to sit down. I do hope this precident will be kept at the next home game.

You have made many comments on things stated in the Echo including figures regarding our losses. If we dumped the one up front DMG would score more as well. The Reading game was a prime example where he played ofrf of Patterson and had his best game for some weeks. Your stupid last sentence is not worth answering, what a load of complete ....
-
When have in the past have you agreed with the Echos figures? Only when it suits of course. If Saga is only on 6k a week period, then your thinking is totally correct but as we both probably concede there will be add ons that make the figure much more than that. Do you think that Saga playing up front as a lone striker will score enough to keep us up? i dont but others may believe so,on the evidence i have seen he is not the man. As for RL , it seems you cannot go a post without mentioning him, i am critical of him not removing Jan, I was very disappointed when i saw Davies going to Forest. If LC buys MW's shares and takes over i wont lose any sleep.

From day one Defoe did not want to play for pompey.I recall whern he signed he was mightily p#####d off and only joinred as he had too. He has s### on you and that is why football is so distasteful nowadays. My wife said this morning 'I know its pompey but it is not right' I will not mourn the end of modern football and the overrated overpaid football prima donnas. I may add Pompey have helped fuel that by paying massive wages to a lot of players.

Saga does not provide what we are missing.he would not be able to play 1 up front like DMG is either. We need a big centre forward or someone with a bit of strength for DMG to play off of. Saga will score a few goals but not enough to keep us up.the better option IMO would have been to have kept Stern. That is not to be and so we are saddled with Saga who has not made enough of an impression to be signed at another club. If it is only!!! 6k a week I cant see why he was not played more when he was. here before. perhaps his fee wehern he joined was linked to appearances and so he might be near a certain mark where the cost of him playing became more.it also might mean that his appearance money is a major problem for us. it is easy to stand back and criticise but unless we have ther full facts it is guesswork. As for toeing the party line, i find it amusing coming from someone who spends the whole time trying to gain favour by slagging the club at every instance to curry favour with the anti club brigade

I agree if we have nothing better lined up and saga is our only option of improvement then 150k is nothing in the big picture. If we could offload him (forget not his wages will carry on in the summer etc) and get someone better in then Id be for that.
-
a bit of both. The Man utd fans had sung without stopping and were very good. After the player was sent off and the penalty given they quientenedfor a while as they I believe knew the ref had ruined the contest. The Man u fans were annoyingly good and it was impossible to counter any thing they threw back.
-
I didnt say prolific goallscorer as Saga is not one either. Until Gb brought him here I had not heard of Saga, i had not heard of many of our signings over the years, that is not my job. There are players out there who can put the ball into the net ( I would love to get that bloke utited had up front David Welling?? He will not get many games at man u and Fergie does loan out players) and os the club jan might find/know of a goalscorer.

Very good points we went out with a whimper for variying reasons.

I never thought we werent outclassed and outfought. As Um says the team selection was poor and whilst Patterson did well against Reading it was folly 5to play him and leave BWP and Euell on the bench. If they had played well it may have alerted teams to buy them. Gobrern was overawaed and so our chances of competing were nullified immediately.Riley then was intimidated by Fergusons rant after Pattersons first tackle and then any tackle resulted in bookings. How can you get into players faces if you are booked in the first challenge. Also when you are up against a team that can really make space it is difficult to get near enough to give them a dig. I t was men against boys and I still believe that Riley helped make it a non contest and if Giggs or Berbatov had made that tackle it would have been a yellow not red.(rightly or wrongly if it was a red or not)

or what if we used that money on another goal scorer. I dont dislike Saga but do believe he too highly rated by some.he hardly set the world alight, he hasnt at his foreign club and only seemed keen when he was playing for a contract. We dont need people unledss they are hungry to be successful.
