If proven CCC/Premiership players are too expensive then the only solution would seem to be to buy one of the rising young talents from League 1 who have proven they can score goals. It might be a better gamble. Suggestions?

Terrific. Now we MUST improve pour away form.

should we go all out to get nicky mayard in january ?

We largely score goals following astute build up, beguiling and patient (but slowish) inter-passing that frequently confuses the opposition because they do not know who to mark most and where the threat is coming from. But it seems (away from home) teams are wising up and are having more success in disrupting our play and blunting our forwards. Maynard would be a positive. He would add something different. He is fast and direct. Whatever he costs, provided he fits into the team ethic, get him. We will be promoted with him on board. The next half of the season might be tricky if we are not reinforced by a speedy, accurate striker of his calibre. -
I'd rather see his mate Dyer back here. Or better still, Maynard. Or Jutkiewicz

We are Saints. We are TOP OF THE TABLE -six points ahead. Is this the most we've been so far?

You forgot your smiley-winky thing. Seriously, I don't think the Dutch duo were appropriate for Saints but they were unreal times. Yet under Poortvliet the young Saints played some inspiring, flowing football on occasions. They just had no effective frontmen, and they were not experienced enough and tough enough to recover from setbacks. But how close to the 'total football' ideal are Saints now? Adam and Kelvin survive from those days. Perhaps they did learn some positives about the game from the Dutch? Yes, No?

I'm not contemplating which team would be our biggest threat. Anyone could be over the length of the season. IMHO we ourselves could be our biggest threat if we start worrying about others. Or if we become too complacent.
-
Yes, bring them back. They'll be in their wheel chairs but will still outdo any other half time entertainment.
-
That's the problem. Sammy doesn't have ********. A pair of ******** in costume would be better.

Portsmouth is just a small town near Crawley

Sammy The Saint has not been the most uplifting of mascots. Dawdled around the pitch, shoulders down, looking half-hearted at best. The new Saints need a livelier costume mascot if we are to have one at all.

2-2 Maynard will want to impress his future employer.

As said above. I've also noticed that when players can't see space, as in the first half against Seagulls, they pass around at the back inviting the opposition forward which sometimes creates space. Not that it looks convincing, and as Adkins said they dwelled too much on the ball too often. Also, as in a previous thread someone said that their youngster commented that Saints often avoid tackles if they have the ball by passing to someone else, and this must be frustrating and wearing for the opposition. They don't like it not at 'em!

We lost to high spending Leicester who were tipped for promotion.

No Mate. WE still ARE top of the league!

Exactly the same arguments were made about rascist chanting and rascist jokes. Your innocently naaive views and views of others on here compare with Poyet/Blatter's comments and are not so far apart, not that you realise of course. Banter is funny, but I'm getting tired and bored of the same repetitive homophobic banter, as would many others. Change the record.
-
The post didn't actually say that the words were offensive, but never mind.
-
That chant is funny, but it is still illegal. And you are presumptuous, offensive and wrong.
-
No it isn't. Homophobic chanting, like rascist chanting, is illegal. Get over it.

Interestingly, Brighton can't really afford to lose this game. The middle of the table is quite dense and Brighton have been freefalling. Yet a win could take them back into the play-offs. I reckon they'll be playing for a tight boring draw, whilst hoping to break and score. CMS usually does well against us. We should have the advantagde, but the game could go either way. For sure it won't be a walkover. Beware conceding early in either half, Saints!

Apparently opened talks over permanant Hooiveld deal
eelpie replied to Saint Garrett's topic in The Saints
For sure, buying him will hardly be a gamble. He has proved his worth with us. -
But will Brighton pip West Ham to matching Saints highest attendance at St Mary's? I'll lol if it's by one person.
-
lol yep. We ARE obsessed with Brighton obsessed with us obsessed with them obsessed with us. A true relationship?
-
So, we don't have an anti gay Brighton agenda?
