Good deal for Burnley that. Thought Bryan was very good every time I’ve seen him

Summer 2018 - Other teams Manager/transfer business
ErwinK1961 replied to Batman's topic in The Saints
Seeing as they survived most of the season without Mendy, I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't that that fussed about pursuing Bertrand. It's Spurs that I worry about, if Rose left. -
Yup - sure I read an article somewhere when he joined where he said he'd like to go back there before the end of his career.

Pickford had a mare of a season at Everton.... yet managed to win Fans, Players and Young Players of the year...
-
It doesn't half hit home how average a squad we have, when it's written down in front of you.

Top work, thanks Batman. On the face of it, at least they acknowledge mistakes were made. Good to see they are looking to improve communication/connection with fans and also the need to act quickly, but don't enjoy this continued blaming of the VVD situation for our poor season. Obviously though it could just be a lot of hot air, let's wait and see what happens. Though Ralph asking us to judge them on reacting to their mistakes next season is asking for a lot of (un-earnt) trust, especially when they'll be asking me to part with the best of £700 in a few weeks time...

Do you really think Emery is realistic for us? Maybe after Koeman, but surely not now.

Regardless of promotion?

Wouldn’t be unhappy at all if we appointed Hughes longer term, he deserves it. However, main pro point on Hughes for me is the continuity it would bring having a manager installed from the get go, ahead of pre season / transfers etc. So if there was a ‘better option’ out there and you could guarantee that they would be in place from say 1st June to be well ahead of the game, then I’d be ok with that too. Problem is, there’s no way our board can be that proactive, as they demonstrated in the last two summers. Also the telegraph article from the other day said no-one else was under consideration at this stage, so if they aren’t going with Hughes it’s going to be another long summer.

I'm saying we replace the likes of Boufal et al, who cost a great deal and delivered feck all! Hopefully the money recouped from that and possibly some player sales we don't want (Bertrand / Cedric), the leftovers from the VVD cash and some money from Gao / TV money will be enough to conduct some surgery. But as you say, and as mentioned in my original post, I'm not keen on Les / Ross spending it.
-
I don’t know, I’m not a director of football at a Premier League football club. But when you factor in the money spent on Carillo, Redmond, Hoedt and Boufal (c. £60m), we are still no closer to replacing them whatsoever. Our best CB this season has been a young Polish lad we picked up for £5m - there is good value and quality out there, if you look in the right places. The recruitment team need to up there game in the summer.
-
Do what we should have done over the last 18 months - replace Mane, Pelle, Fonte and Van Dijk. Properly. Replace Bunsen and Beaker, as well as Ross Wilson. Can chuck Dave Watson in there as well, don’t think anyone has improved under his tutelage and his hairs sh*t.

I've got the best solution for both teams... We beat Swansea - move to 36 points (after losing to City on last day) Swansea then beat Stoke on last day - move to 36 points Huddersfield lose to City and Chelsea, then only get a draw with Arsenal last day - move to 36 points, but with a largely inferior goal difference and go down So Carlos, if you're reading this... make it happen

He's not the messiah, he's a very naughty boy.

Shake hands on a point before hand? Would give them 100 - everyone's happy...

City just toying with West Ham - if they weren't trying to take the p*ss in the final third, they'd have 7-8 by now. Hoping Pep decides to give them all the day off for good behaviour when they play us.
-
Could prove to be a tasty signing, though I've heard he's a bit flaky.
-
Don't want him here next season - not that I blame him for last few games, just don't see it working out. Like others have said, think we need freshening up - clear the decks across playing and coaching staff and start again. Tactics were a tad strange last night by all accounts, but maybe Hughes has realised that our only hope is to be ultra defensive and try and nick a goal. Our defence is incredibly sh*t and midfield ponderous, so the moment we try and attack, teams just walk through us. Blame firmly at the door of Les, Ross and Ralph for the complete clusterf*ck we are in. Players have to take a portion of blame as well for phoning it in most of the season.
-
First things first, we need a captain. Someone who's got some b*llocks and will lead by example - something that's been lacking for 2 seasons. Ideally they would be a centre back, as we are desperately short there. It won't happen, but I wouldn't be bothered if we got rid of all our CB's in the summer. Not one of them can physically mix it in the Prem, god knows what they'll be like in the Championship. I think Austin would score a shed load, but the chances of him staying fit for 80% of games next year is unlikely. Definitely need to spend some money on a striker. Look at what Mitrovic has done at Fulham, completely transformed them. Then we need someone whose going to play CAM and weigh in with a decent amount of goals - someone in a similar mould to a James Maddison. Something we've lacked for a long time, but hopefully there will be better options for us in the Championship. As already mentioned, Nick Powell could be a good shout but imagine he'd be pricey. In reality though, I suspect we will be left with the dregs of what we couldn't sell (Forster, Long, Hoedt etc) who can't be assed and will supplement them with academy products that aren't ready. Can't wait.

Our best 3 signings since returning to the premier league

Utterly clueless. -
We will probably get the 'angry backlash' from the weekend, plus don't expect any decisions from the ref.

If they were that bothered about a replacement, they could have got something lined up when this was first discussed with them.
