Yes it probably is. On the surface of it things may seem as simple as we get relegated and then absolute boss the league next season, however the Championship and League 1 are full of teams like us, who have had a spell in the sun and now are fighting to get back there. Sure we won’t break the top 6/7 with the funds those teams have at their disposal, however if we fail to prepare for our spell out of the Prem properly then we along with about 20 other teams join a fight for just 3 promotion slots. The League 1 and Championship promotion seasons were amongst my favourite supporting us, however we had a budget way beyond that of many sides, and had a Premier League quality spine in the team. It’s a bit more of a even playing field down there now with FFP, and we’ve certainly got some dross we need to get rid of before we look like we’ll be a threat down there. Then of course you have to factor in the job losses across all departments in the club, especially if instant promotion isn’t gained and the parachute payments dry up. Not to mention of course the effect the drop in attendances has on the wider city economy, and the job losses lower footfall brings. Realistically being a top tier side brings a certain prestige to a city, and the whole thing runs deeper than just playing in a lesser league next year. Frankly relegation will be a disaster for us.

This seasons kit wouldn’t have been so bad if it’d had red under the arms too à la 99/01. The relegation battles of old were fought by players whom may have lacked ability, but they made up for it with heart. This bunch of useless cunts have got neither. Just an opinion of course, but the fact United went down to 10 could have actually worked against us as they tightened it up, seen it so many times where the red card just kills the game. Ultimately though not many teams will come back from Old Trafford with a point and a clean sheet, that should be celebrated. A few unlikely draws against the big six will prove vital if we can win a few of our kinder remaining fixtures.

Pretty pissed off seeing Jack Stephens celebrating a clean sheet against Liverpool after another decent display whilst we have to suffer Janny B in our back line. That being said I believe he’ll be a really important player for us in the Champ next season, and in the likely event of the departure of JWP would probably be a shoe in for team captain.
