lordswoodsaints Posted 27 June, 2009 Share Posted 27 June, 2009 .....to inform the world of their intentions to a few loonies on a crappy, amateur run fans forum? Don't get me wrong this forum is well run by some dedicated individuals and I must be one of the loonies as I spend a fair amount of time on here but why don't they go through the proper media/newspaper channels to announce their intentions and keep the fans informed, even the os would surely be a bit more of a professional way of doing things. I am proud to say that I 'didn't go Wilde for mike' and I never pinned my flag to pinnacle so why do these people (professional, succesful, millionaire businessmen) think that posting updates on here is the way to win over the fans? This forum, although inhabited by some sane people cannot be a good representation of our fanbase can it? Don't get me wrong,it is entertaining watching a potential owner go into meltdown and squirm for some credibility but ultimately it is very damaging to the credibility (if there is any left) of the club. I think it is time for the mods/admin people to redirect any contact from potential owners/consortiums/billionaires to the OS or the echo as the bottom feeders on here get too excitable and go into bullsh1te overdrive. Would bill gates go and announce his new version of windows to the nice residents at tatchbury mount? My vote would go to the potential owner that could stay away from this or any other forum,it just seems so unprofessional and a bit dodgy posting on an amateur forum IMO. Any prospective buyer knows that without the turnstiles clicking over; the club, its history and SMS are merely symbolic ...of what used to be... and recent history shows that "fan-power" is something to be reckoned with at Saints...(deposing Lowe and Co. etc)...and THEY are hardly likely to antagonise fans by totally ignoring them, until one day they announce ..we are the new owners. Don't know the outcome, but the Tony Lynam threads are at least INFORMATION from the horses mouth - even if it is the selective truth. Going out to the media every other day with the message..." .....were still working on it - but it 'aint ready yet " ...is no news. As this long drawn out matter comes to an end (hopefully - soon) the fans are most concerned. Whoever ends up owning the club will have to court the fans and get feet tramping through the turnstiles in vast numbers next season and should keep the fan base sweet. They'll be enough headlines when the ink is dry and the management team /new players are announced. (BUT I do agree the waiting is very frustrating). Wildgoose Posted 27 June, 2009 Share Posted 27 June, 2009 Agreed. I thought the posts by TL were reassuring to begin with and was very grateful, but the more it has gone on the more I am coming to realise it is not likely to happen and even maybe never was! Just want someone to do the deal, and tell us later. That's what I hoped would happen with Pinnacle. Would still love to be proved wrong, but some things just don't feel right do they? True, these updates by TL don't sit right with me,they are a bit cringy if I'm honest. It's nice to be kept informed but I think I would prefer to see some progress report on sky or local tv,even the echo or OS would do.....constantly reporting basically nothing on this forum really means just that....nothing. It's almost as if they are ducking from the media but still trying to hoodwink the fans, maybe to cover something up that they don't want us to know. It's all very amateur IMO. SaintBobby Posted 27 June, 2009 Share Posted 27 June, 2009 I welcome the open dialogue. I don't think its unprofessional at all per se. The readership of this site is pretty huge (higher than the OS?) - even if regular obsessive posters, such as myself, are a rarity.

VectisSaint Posted 27 June, 2009 Share Posted 27 June, 2009 .....to inform the world of their intentions to a few loonies on a crappy, amateur run fans forum? The answer probably is that these people know that they need supporters on their side, and these forums are the best way they have of interacting with what they believe is a reasonably sized cross section of such supporters. Unfortunately they do not realise until too late that there are a number of people on these forums who have been arguing the toss about Lowe and Wilde for so long that they have become blinded to the reality of our situation, and think this is all just a game and that they can make unfounded accusations with no recrimination. With the gutter press we have these days, these comments which the loonies think are just harmless fun, then backfire by being picked up by the press and being reported. Thats when these potential buyers get very concerned about what they are doing.

It's interesting that you should say that about the press picking up on pieces written on forums,I never would have beleived that the press had become that lazy and stupid until my son did his work experience on the echo sports desk, one of his tasks everyday was to trawl forums like this for information. Tbh in the last few years the echo has become a very bad version of one of the big red top rags.there was a time in the not too distant past that the echo could be relied upon to report the facts about saints, usually with something exclusive added due to it's good working relationship it had with the club, but now it seems that they rely on bullsh1t and hearsay just to fill the back pages coupled with a few dodgy emails from so called fans. You are so right. The Echo thinks they are a big paper yet don't have any substance. Full of lazy apprentices reporting to an ego maniac Brummy tosser editor. I am sick of the "Daily Echo backed" campaigns and "Daily Echo exclusive" bull**** Any decent prospective buyer with significant wealth and integrity would never issue statements to the papers or websites until a deal had been done. If Pinnacle do succeed don't hold your breath until it goes tits up again.

Arizona Posted 27 June, 2009 Share Posted 27 June, 2009 Well, we have around 3,500 active users. If someone wanted to gauge the emotions and reactions of fans to certain bits of information, SWF would be a fairly accurate sample of the fan base as a whole. the mick channon windmill Posted 27 June, 2009 Share Posted 27 June, 2009 the echo really has become gutter press scum over the last 5 years which is bad enough but when the stories are detrimental to saints at such a sensitive time its unforgivable. it really has become like a copy of a poor daily rag and i think we should boycott this paper until it gets back to the standards it used to be. the echo should report the news but to look for negative stories that dont neccesarily exist is way out of line. i hope the echo reporters do read this website looking for stories so they can see our point of view, we would rather have no news than sensationalised stories without foundation that could potentially damage saints. That may well be true but unfortunately the 3450 voices get drowned out by a very gobby set of around 50 i would estimate. That 50 will chastise, cut down, insult and villify anyone who doesnt agree with them. Bit of a shame really
Arizona Posted 27 June, 2009 Share Posted 27 June, 2009 I'd like to think anyone serious about buying the club wouldn't become fixated on the polarised views of a few nutters who stalk the shaddows of SWF. I think this site is genuinely a fair representation of the views of the fan base on the whole, which is why someone like Tony would use it to interact with fans. Also on the polls, 1 person gets 1 vote. Everyone is heartd equally, so the chick that squarks loudest doesn't nescessarily get the worm. I'm just speculating, I'm sure Tony has his own reasons. Started out as reassuring as you say,but now interpreted by many as perhaps attention seeking and ego building. To be fair though we have to say TL is damned if he does, and damned if he does not.In hindsight it might have been best not to have embarked on this line of communication. This last week has fuelled misgivings over Pinnacles credentials, and yes IF they do the deal then I hope they prove our concerns to have been unfounded. lordswoodsaints Posted 30 June, 2009 Author Share Posted 30 June, 2009 I notice that big tone hasn't felt so enthusiastic about posting on here about his failure. At least MLT had the balls to face the press. Come on big T,it's time to come clean, you were quick enough to come on here and tell us how great you and pinnacle were (bullsh1t I know) so how about telling us how sh1t you really are.....you should also be ashamed of yourself for pulling the wool over MLT's eyes.
