oxfordshire_saint Posted 5 September, 2009 Share Posted 5 September, 2009 It's been mentioned before, but we really need to start making use of our corners. Today we had 8, against Stockport we had 8, against Brentford we had 8.......but no goals from them. Now that we can throw a load of 6 footers into the box, we need to do better. Lallana's puny lofted efforts were too easy for their keeper a lot of the time today, we really need someone to whip them in. Also, why isn't a left footer taking the corners on the right side? I'm sure Harding could deliver a decent ball.
Legod Third Coming Posted 5 September, 2009 Share Posted 5 September, 2009 The trajectory is wrong. The ball needs to come in flatter, faster and with whip towards the rear third of the goal.
Whitey Grandad Posted 5 September, 2009 Share Posted 5 September, 2009 We shall never score from a corner so long as Lallana is taking them. There's no pace on the ball and all it does is float into the keeper's hands.

And I would always have a left footer taking them on the right, personally. I would also always leave a man up at corners. Successive managers have not done this and I find it totally bizarre. It takes two defenders out of the game!
harvey Posted 5 September, 2009 Share Posted 5 September, 2009 Lallana should never take a corner again, absolute ****ing ****! What's the point in just lobbing it in with no pace :smt102.........retarded!

Pilchards Posted 5 September, 2009 Share Posted 5 September, 2009 The best thing we can do it do the short corner and then lump it 50 yards in the air to land on the 6 yard line, It will be an almighty scramble where the ball could go anywhere. OfnPanad Posted 5 September, 2009 Share Posted 5 September, 2009 Corners have been crap since the prem days - Safri couldn't get it over the first man either. Agreed Lallana takes a very poor corner, but that said, what threat would he be in the box? He's got some tricks but he'll never be a physical presence. brmbrm Posted 5 September, 2009 Share Posted 5 September, 2009 Why no short corners today? Why not a man close to the corner-taker, if for no other reason than to pull a defender out of the box and to give more space? We should have been one man close to the corner-taker, one on the shoulder of the box: two more threats for the defence to consider and at leat one man drawn out of position. Whatever. Worst bit was not just the coreners, but crosses and delivery generally.

Whoever isn't taking one stays back with Lallana, everyone else forward.

Channon's Sideburns Posted 5 September, 2009 Share Posted 5 September, 2009 Well what excuses would be put forward for Lallana if he wasn't taking them? He has to be doing SOMETHING to justify his place.....
Whitey Grandad Posted 5 September, 2009 Share Posted 5 September, 2009 yes because the keeper just caught them all today ??? at least we are beating the first man this year! marked improvement! I didn't want to write an essay, but the point is that there is no pace on the ball when it arrives so there is nothing for any attacker to work with. In the same vein, James crosses from too deep which makes it easy for the defenders and difficult for the attackers, the angles are all wrong. Yes I have, If you look closely he also raises up fingers, He is signalling to the players 3 o clock to his left as there is a nice blonde in that direction. I had to laugh in the 2nd half as he did the 10 o clock, She was a right munger I knew from school.

St Will Posted 6 September, 2009 Share Posted 6 September, 2009 I'm pretty sure Schneiderlin waits outside the box in case the ball comes to him and he can have a shot? Or is he there to prevent a quick counter attack? If he's only there for shooting purposes, surely Lallana can play that role and Schneiderlin can take the corners? He HAS to be a better corner taker, surely?

Channon's Sideburns Posted 6 September, 2009 Share Posted 6 September, 2009 Well I reckon we should have John McCririck taking the corners - his hand gestures would be more worthwhile than Lallana's...
