wessex saint Posted 23 October, 2009 Share Posted 23 October, 2009 Am going tomorrow and for various reasons will pull into train station about 12 noon with kids in tow. Looking for a kid friendly boozer between the station and SMS that does half decent food and the adults can sup a few shandies. Any ideas?
REDARMY79 Posted 24 October, 2009 Share Posted 24 October, 2009 Bit of a trek, but the Wetherspoons at Ocean Village (used to be Cork & Bottle) is good . Took my kids in there before Torquay game . Good food and drink and cheap too! Very kid friendly aswell. Probably 20 minute walk from station and then 10 from the ground. HTH

Huffton Posted 24 October, 2009 Share Posted 24 October, 2009 We use the Pensioners, just off Bedford PLace. Family friendly, decent food, real ale ans Sky sports. Used to go in the Grapes in Oxford St but the new owners haven't had sky sports put in. Red Lion in BEdford Place is also family friendly but again no SS and IMO the beer is a bit crap. trousers Posted 24 October, 2009 Share Posted 24 October, 2009 I wouldn't necessarily describe it as a family boozer but I've taken my 9 year old into the King Alfred near the ground on match-days before. They don't seem to mind as long as you keep them away from the bar area. Gets a bit crowded mind! Edit: ah, just seen you want food too....scracth that - they do a BBQ outside but not sure if they do that during the colder months?!
andysstuff Posted 24 October, 2009 Share Posted 24 October, 2009 Wetherspoons in London Road isn't too bad either.

HTH If you go with this suggestion, you could jump on the freebie bus at the station and go to the IoW ferry terminal, then you have less distance to walk, will get less wet (p1ssing down at the moment!) and have a bit more drinking time ! HTH also !

Saint_clark Posted 24 October, 2009 Share Posted 24 October, 2009 Try Yates on the way from the station to the ground Usually full to the brim of away fans, your kids may get a bit scared depending on how old they are.

$$$ Posted 24 October, 2009 Share Posted 24 October, 2009 the alex on bellevue road does food, real ale, has sky sports and has a garden for hiding children in. How would children get to the rear garden when they are not allowed inside  Don’t recall them doing food on matchdays either bar the occasional BBQ. Unless the kids are happy to sit outside the front with no access to toilets, you might be better off elsewhere...

I was going to suggest The Pensioners. Will probably get pretty crowded near match-time but should be ok around 12:00 and is sort-of (not really-ish) en route. Food is pretty cheap and it's more of an "old man boozer" (no offence anyone ) than a chavvy skank factory like Yates'.
