pilsburydoughboy Posted 27 October, 2009 Share Posted 27 October, 2009 I have always been a Saints fan through thick and thin but for the last few weeks a real passion has started to rekindle. I have noticed more people wearing Saints shirts ,there seems to be more kids wearing Saints shirts again with real pride. I look forward to games now as opposed to just going because i knew i should. Even when i stopped buying a season ticket because of a previous chairman who's name has been erased from my memory,i still went to every home game. There is a real buzz back in the city now. 21000 people at a league home game. 3150 tickets sold for an away game.It is fantastic support. I have no doubt that i will come down to earth with a bump but i will enjoy it while it lasts. We have a manager who has created a team of winners. We have a Chairman who fully supports his management team. This really is a dawning of a new era.
RedAndWhite91 Posted 27 October, 2009 Share Posted 27 October, 2009 Even though we sit 22nd in the 3rd tier of English football, these are really promising and exciting times for the club, and it feels great to be a Southampton fan once again. It's a terrific feeling watching the team win, may the good times continue!
Frank's cousin Posted 27 October, 2009 Share Posted 27 October, 2009 Just goes to show what winning does... we had the same set up 6 games ago so much can change if the points start racking up... the vast majority simply want wins to get positive about Saints and dont give a flying feck who is in teh boardroom if we are winning... Totally agree. Winning has the ability to help overlook what is wrong, and people who wish to criticise are brushed aside. Why, even the Poopey supporters that work for me are in awe of what we are doing, and comment on the good feeling we must be feeling. one even mentioned that he has started seeing more Saints shirts in the 'Periphery disputed territories' than of late, (I think he is refering to Fareham, Gosport, IOW, Winchester). He has this theory that in these places they keep three shirts, One Southampton, One Portsmouth, and one Chelsea.

Can you name those who don't?? Personally, I always find it sad but entirely predictable that it takes three points for some people to get excited. I was delirious to have a team to support and have been enjoying every second since the start of the season. I don't begrudge those who stayed away while we weren't winning, but they cannot enjoy it half as much as those of us who have been there throughout. They have the satisfaction of knowing that their absence in effect brought about the administration and therefore the removal of all the dross that used to run this club. Perhaps they are actually getting more enjoyment from their return, satisfied that although a division lower, they are watching a team who actually seem to care for the club, which in itself is unified for the first time in years and years. Wes Tender Posted 28 October, 2009 Share Posted 28 October, 2009 To clarify, I meant this season!!! That's quite a different matter altogether and I agree with you. I've been to all the home matches, rebought STs, merchandise, etc and only wish that I could afford the time to go to some of the away matches. It is sweeter to have witnessed first hand the turnaround from a slow start. Had the events of the past few months not taken place and we were still saddled with that last shower, this season I would have only gone to the away games within an hours drive or so. Cut the "noble cause" sh !t, Wes. As soon as many of the "fair weather" fans experience a little drizzle, they'll join you, shopping with the missus on a Saturday afternoon, again. Not that I don't welcome their presence on match days, but to suggest that the people that deserted the club in it's hour of need, somehow should show satisfaction that they brought about the situation we are lucky to find ourselves, is total b0ll0x and an insult to the fans that turned up during the hard times. Save your keyboard strokes for the supporters that inspired the new owner to buy us. I doubt that it was the gutless stayaways that you try hard to turn into people with a cause celebre. Their absence was due to far more mundane reasons than the previous chairman's social background...

Wes Tender Posted 28 October, 2009 Share Posted 28 October, 2009 Ah! How heartwarming! Misguided still has me off ignore. Pining for the old regime, are we Misguided? People had their own reasons for staying away and those reasons should be respected in most cases as they are personal to them and there is no compulsion to attend. What flies in the face of reason is the fact that despite being in the third division, we have substantially increased attendances over last year's. That was also true at the beginning of the season when we were losing. Why should these attendances shrink if we have a poor run? What also confounds many who belittled the record of Nigel Pearson is that he is doing rather well at Leicester, whereas some thought that he was only capable of managing at this level. And what of the Dutch joker who is Jan Poortvliet? Struggling again in the lower Dutch divisions. So whether attendances fell because Lowe got rid of Pearson, or employed the useless double Dutch, or played a team overful of youngsters, or because people didn't have any empathy with Lowe's social background and his arrogant, egotistical personality is up to those individuals. What is not questionable is that we have one of the largest attendance figures for this division, something that I am certain would not have happened under the previous regime. The thread is right; we can again have pride in our team and our club.

Joesaint Posted 28 October, 2009 Share Posted 28 October, 2009 I love the new people loads, but I do also like Crouch because he put his all into this club, on the other hand I hated Lowe and although I went to some games I'd never been as happy with the club as I am now. I do want to get to the prem, and would always like to think LC is welcome to come and watch (provided he pays!!) COYR

West End Saint Posted 29 October, 2009 Share Posted 29 October, 2009 It is not just the winning team that are causing the feelgood factor we are now totaly DEBT FREE how many clubs can say that. The club is being run by people with a long term plan for success if we hit a bad run so what these people have the ability & desire to put it right. We are not being run for the benefit of a plc but for the people of Southampton Marcus will only profit from us when we have achieved success. How good is all that & we have a manager that knows what he is doing & a team with ability to do well in this league & the next. I love being a Saint COYR
Glasgow_Saint Posted 29 October, 2009 Share Posted 29 October, 2009 Optimism is definitely growing. Coincidently I was just looking at the league table and if we hadn’t made such a poor start we could already be top (2nd after Leeds mid week win) Realistically we should have won all 14 games this season – that would see us with 42 points (-10) = 32. Instead we have 11!! That’s 21 points dropped already – v.poor What a shame AP took so long to get his act sorted! Lets hope we win the next
Nadia Sllim Posted 29 October, 2009 Share Posted 29 October, 2009 Winning is what football is all about for the majority of fans, people turn up if the team wins. Even a crap pub side will have a man and a dog watching whilst a good winning pub team will have some regulars and wives + girlfriends watching. People just love winning teams. There are real die-hards that follow league and non league teams everywhere, even if they are losing most weeks. Winning puts a smile on your face and a spring in your step. Come on Saints please keep winning.

Well done fella!! I don't think it's all that brave in this day and age - now back in the late 70's when I went to the Poly (which is now the University) it was something slightly different. Often got into scrapes around the town - didn't help I had a Mk.2 Cortina with a red "SUPER SAINTS" sun strip and always wore a red & white scarf (still have it to this day!). Rivalry in those days was quite strong - I remember the Channon last minute winner at Fratton and the pandemonium that followed...but the best for me was the last minute Moran strike in the Cup a few years later. Those were great days - signing Keegan...oh the memories.
hypochondriac Posted 29 October, 2009 Share Posted 29 October, 2009 For me, Forest away last year was the best away game I have ever been to since we left the prem (and I include West Brom away and Derby playoffs in that.) It was so weird to think that that could potentially be the last time I ever saw saints play. There was a real brotherly attitude at half time and full time with people dancing and singing. It brings a smile to think that all those people who so deserved a successful club are feeling great right now. I don't believe any other club would have reacted like that. OK we had fights in the stand during the dark times but when it came to the end we went down singing, dancing and hugging and we didn't leave with a whimper. That was probably the proudest I had ever been as a saints fan. It's nice to see us get something back.

Well done fella!! Fair play to him. I wore my Saints shirt to and from the Great South Run on Sunday - would never have done this in the past 2 or 3 seasons. Didn't have the balls to wear it for the race itself though. Received very few comments either - guess they're too busy firefighting to hassle a scummer! saint stu 20 Posted 29 October, 2009 Share Posted 29 October, 2009 I cant wait until we are back in the Prem (how ever long it takes) get Man Utd about 2 or 3games from the end of the season, beat them and stop them from winning the title........ah revenge will be sweet to see the smug look wiped off a lot of those fans who counted down to our relegation! We are truely being restored to the great club we all know, it is exciting times to be a saints fan and imo, greatly overdue...but as they say good things come to those that wait and i think saints fans have waited long long enough!
