I went to watch the young VT lads in their FA youth first round as well.. played torquay united at home, and lost 3-2 after extra time. Torquay equalised in normal time in the last second to make it 2-2, heartbreaking for the young lads.. they had a few quality players though, wouldn't be surprised if we saw 1 or 2 with us sooner or later.

i'm not sure if anyone else has posted this but the highlights of the 4-0 win can be found on the FA web site.

I would say from the highlights that they had as many shots as us, the difference being that our GK saved their long range shots, whereas our chances were from closer in.

So we held them out making them shoot from distance while we opened them up, sounds good.

I was at the game, and although the Shots worked hard to keep Saints at bay for the first half an hour or so, there was a gulf in class.

The main reason Shots were reduced to long range efforts was because Saints CB pairing, Racine and Tafazolli are both huge, and looked very solid, constantly talking and reading the game well.

Others who impressed were McNish (great range of passing, very comfortable on the ball), Robinson (calm, broke up opposition attacks), Oxlade-Chamberlain (quick, lively) and Dovey (not much to do but never looked like getting beaten).

Wouldn't be surprised to see several of these lads knocking on the first team door before too long.

The Shots team were a mixed bunch but they had three players who I thought could have held their own in the Saints team. The rest looked out of their depth but gave a good account of themselves considering they don't have anything like the resources Saints academy has got.

Good result for the young lads and an interesting video from thefa.com with comments from Dave Puckett throughout the game too.

Also, I see the FA website has next round down as being Sat 21th Nov at 19:00hrs. A home game vs Hereford. Seems an odd time for a KO, unless its going to be at St Marys, immediately after the Norwich game? Isn't there a ruling that all FA Youth Cup matches are played at the clubs main ground?

That probably just means that the clubs haven't agreed a date yet.

Despite our low league posistion the gulf in class should be there given the resources available to both, that aside it is still good news to hear such a positive report.

It's a treat to be able to watch extended highlights of a Saints match with such thoughtful informed commentary. It's a shame that for the senior team's fixture tonight we'll probably have to make do with ITV's standard 20 second run down at half time in the Norwich game tomorrow.
