Right, this probably isn't reliable and won't come to fruition now anyway. But I've been told by someone who spoke to Michael Chopra that Kenwyne all but had a deal to sign for Chelsea sewn up before he crocked himself vs England. Also said Chopra is going to move, isn't happy with Keane not playing him etc. etc.

But, do we have a sell-on clause on KJ? Obviously such a move won't happen now and I know we got Stern + £6M which was a great deal at the time, but I'd hope we got a sell on clause, we could be in for a couple of million at some point, if he continues to progress and the injury (back earliest March apparently :|) doesn't ruin him.

sorry to sound pedantic but Stern John was not in exchange for Jones, inevitably part of discussions but actually a separate deal on a free.

I didn't realise that. There may be a sell on clause then. I don't remember anything being said at the time though

KJ was one of the best players I've seen in a Saints shirt in recent years. Left badly, very badly even, but I've no doubt he'll join one of the bigger clubs in the near future.

Always thought he was a good player in his day, tricky for a big bloke and always seemed to give opposing defenders a perpetual headache.  Shame he 'went on strike' under Burley and left under a cloud.

I liked him too. Remember Redknapp critisicing him for being tired saying 19 year olds dont get tired, when he was on his way out of SMS and was throwing all the young players under the bus.

Interestingly just read Luggys autobiography and it was him who decided to switch Jones from a CB to a striker when taking him on loan to Sheffield Wednesday, apparently he recognised that he would do better up there when he saw him in the youth team at Saints. When Redknapp saw how well he was doing he recalled him.

Not being pedantic, just questioning Luggy's memory... as he was never in our Youth Team, we signed him at 20 and straight into the Premier League first team. He'd just scored 39 goals in 42 games as a striker for his previous two clubs. I don't think he was ever a defender?

He wasn't in the Prem squad really though he played reserves which basically was the youth. He definitely was considered a CB at one point as I remember reading him described as such on the official site or somewhere.
