Forget Pompey - today and Tuesday count

Look, I would love to stuff the skates, and I want us to win EVERY game.

But I would rather have full strength sides today and Tuesday and would be very, very cross if we hold our best players back for next Saturday.

That game is important to us, not to our season. For our season, we need to win today and Tuesday even if that is at the expense of next week's game.

So let's go best 11 today, best 11 Tuesday and see who's still standing next Saturday morning.

Pardew has already said today's match is more important than the cup games effectively so I cannot imagine he will play anything other than his strongest side. The big question is going to be whether he can afford to risk playing Punch as an unknown quantity. My guess is he will start on the left wing. Which if true could mean Lallana might get dropped again.

AP also said that those that play today will be playing for a place in next weeks games. It's certainly going to interesting to see who steps up to the mark.

Absolutely agree. Pompey game is an insignificant pimple on the bum of Southampton Football Club. Still love to beat them and I will be there but if we lose, so what!

I'd agree with this. There are going to be a lot of people who won't though. I think the question can be defined as "what game would you rest Lambert in?".

Drop him today and if we don't win our play off hopes are very very slim. We might get to the JPT final but our season will feel over after the final.

Drop him for MK Dons - how bad is it going to feel not getting to a final?

Drop him for Pompey and it's going to feel like we've given up before we've even taken to the pitch. I'm not sure the majority who queued and struggled to get tickets will accept not fielding our best (or close to it) team. Like it or not there is a lot of pride at stake.

Agree that wins today and against Plastic FC are crucial. I still do not think the Pompey game will happen but even it does there will probably be at least 4 players from these two games who will not feature in the Fa Cup and win or lose against Pompey is nowhere as important as points subsequently againsyt Norwich and Wycombe

tbh i'm pretty worried about the pompey game.... it will be the third game in a week, the lads will be knackered! trouble is, everything is a priority init, league, jpt & FACup

Pompey are playing 3 times in the week as well.

Anyway...if a professional can't run around on a Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday then they should retire! ffs it is nearly 4 days between MK Dons and the Pompey game! ;) :)

Today is far more important than next Saturday. Assuming Pompey survive (and I think and hope that they will), a win today keeps us in with at least a chance of the play-offs and hopefully promotion. That would mean playing Pompey (at least) twice next season. Shame about the year after when we will be 2 divisions apart again, with them in the 3rd Divisioin

I think that the playoff's are gonna be just out of reach as we are not in form. need another run of 6 wins out of 8 to put us around about where we want to be. Not being able to beat anyone in the top 6 of the league is gonna be a major factor!

Really looking foward to Tuesday as it is our main chance of winning something and playing at Wembley.

The FA Cup run will come to an end by this time next week!
