Yellow goalkeepers jersey were only worn by England keepers in international games note Gordon Banks on England duty in 1970.. for_heaven's_Saint Posted 25 June, 2010 Share Posted 25 June, 2010 Still think green blends in with the pitch and doesn't impact opposition players enough when shooting. They see a bright colour coming towards them, it can affect their shooting quite a bit. Bright orange or yellow everytime. Na what happens is they think there's an open goal so they shoot but little did they know Davis was there all along.

John Boy Saint Posted 25 June, 2010 Share Posted 25 June, 2010 Good to see a traditional goalkeepers shirt colour, Banks wore yellow in Mexico because of the heat.

It wasn't a handicap for about 60 years before the trend to gk multi-range of colour kits.
Badger Posted 25 June, 2010 Share Posted 25 June, 2010 Good to see a traditional goalkeepers shirt colour, Banks wore yellow in Mexico because of the heat. He also wore yellow in 1966: Yes,I remember when GK's only wore green in league games. I think Shilton and a couple of others broke rank c1974 with different colours - blue, and Shilton I think once wore white against us - but generally it was green. Kenilworthy Posted 26 June, 2010 Share Posted 26 June, 2010 When we were founded keepers wore the same shirt as the outfield players. So if we were going for authenticity we wouldn't need a keepers shirt! Even as far back as the 60s keepers had a choice of green, scarlet, royal blue or white. Green was just the most common as you didn't need to change it unless you played Plymouth. When West Brom started playing in green and yellow stripes as an away kit our keepers wore blue.
