landford.saint Posted 15 December, 2010 Share Posted 15 December, 2010 I see that McLaggon scored Salisbury's first two goals last night in their 7-1 win over Halesowen. This now puts Salisbury 2 points off leaders Truro with a game in hand. As a lot of you know Salisbury were managed very successfully by Nick Holmes until last season. But when Salisbury failed to comply with ever dot and comma of a CVA they were doted 2 divisions. They had to sell most of their best players and are now in the Zamarretto Premier league when last year they were in the conference premier. I know some of you guys and gals have a soft spot for Eastleigh. Are there anyone out there supporting Lower league club with Saints connections? doddisalegend Posted 15 December, 2010 Share Posted 15 December, 2010 Always thought we should have given Mclaggon another chance pacy winger/striker could do with one of those now. Scored quite a few for Salisbury this season as well hasn't he?

Scored quite a few for Salisbury this season as well hasn't he? Which means he'd be prolific in League One. Really we should be looking at players that are s*** in the conference, as like Schniderlin they'd be much better at a higher level.
landford.saint Posted 15 December, 2010 Author Share Posted 15 December, 2010 Matt Tubbs (ex Salisbury) seems to be knocking them in for a pastime at Crawley, hatrick the other day. Pity they couldn't keep hold of him.

He was a talented player, he played well at championship level before he was injuried than never got given another chance, last season he was still one of our players and was playing well in the reserves, all I'm saying is I think we let him go to soon would to have liked him to have got another shot at the first team. We lack pace this season Mclaggon had it in spades. I'm not saying his PL quaility or anything.
beatlesaint Posted 15 December, 2010 Share Posted 15 December, 2010 Good luck to them, hope they get themselves promoted and back to where they were last year. They were well and truly dumped on with that double relegation and did far far less wrong than some other clubs we could think of who lead a charmed life !!! Pity they couldn't keep hold of him. He stood up front for our 5 a side team to help us out a few years back, along with with my mate who now plays for Gosport. We won about 20-0 and I kid you not he didn't go out out of his way once.

Window Cleaner Posted 16 December, 2010 Share Posted 16 December, 2010 Strange dos letting McLaggon go and keeping others who haven't ever made any impact at all. Perhaps it was an attitude thingy again. In fact sometimes I think our youth policy is a sort of lucky dip.

SFC Forever Posted 16 December, 2010 Share Posted 16 December, 2010 Kayne has done well with the Whites but he does drift in and out of games. Misses plenty as well but could be a player who will be back in the lower leagues soon.

Wasn't he loaned out to non league as a last resort.. Not sure as I thought he was a really good prospect who had an injury that took the edge of his game.. Just curious...Those in the know will be able to tell if he will ever move back up to or above Eastleigh standard..Good luck to the lad. PS I will look out for a Salisbury game in the West Country and take a peek.

Jackie@home Posted 19 December, 2010 Share Posted 19 December, 2010 Snowed off, unfortunately, but rearranged for this Wednesday. I've been to a few Salisbury matches when Saints haven't been playing and enjoyed it - a team I enjoy seeing win without the stress of watching Saints! Huntingdon Posted 19 December, 2010 Share Posted 19 December, 2010 Why are so many people convinced we made a mistake letting him go? He was pretty average & none of us ever saw him in training. AP and his staff obviously thought he was no good, and if he was any good, some clubs further up the ladder than Salisbury would have snapped up a free, talented youngster with league experience
Window Cleaner Posted 20 December, 2010 Share Posted 20 December, 2010 Why are so many people convinced we made a mistake letting him go? At a guess I'd say that it's because we have an unenviable record in letting young players go without really giving them a chance to show what they can do in the first team and then they turn up elsewhere in higher divisions playing good football. It could well be the right decision but Nile Ranger and Mike Williamson (true Ranger was a bit of a problem case apparently) haven't really suffered from being let go by us, we've probably come out on the minus side of the ledger in those 2 cases, I'm sure there are many others though both pro and con. Probably best for him and the club that he dropped down and rebuilt his career - still quite young I believe
david in sweden Posted 25 December, 2010 Share Posted 25 December, 2010 (edited) Why are so many people convinced we made a mistake letting him go? He was pretty average & none of us ever saw him in training. AP and his staff obviously thought he was no good, and if he was any good, some clubs further up the ladder than Salisbury would have snapped up a free, talented youngster with league experience Many people seem to lose the perspective of age / experience and timing. Many teenage players just don't make the grade. There have been loads of players who were TREMENDOUS - when they were in our U16/U18 sides....Walcott and Bale are two prime examples. Likewise..so too were Martin Crainie and Ollie Lancashire ..nuff said. They were criticised horribly whenever their names appeared on the team sheet ..let alone played. They moved on ..as did many others, who didn't make it at the right time, namely at 18 ..someone (Academy Coach / Reserve trainer - when we had one) has to make a judgement and has been told .. you can keep ..say 5 youngsters..the rest fall by the wayside. Purely financially speaking you can't keep 3 teams (thats 33 players) in the hope that you can find 11 fit, on form who can win matches every week. For all his successes with players, Lawrie mac was the man in charge when we let two youngsters named ..Dennis Wise and Kevin Phillips go from the youth squad, (ironically both returned in their twilight days) Players mature at different times. Chris Baird came from N.I. aged 16 (1998) and was totally anonymous until his 2002 Cup Final app. then totally ignored again by successive managers until he appeared as a saviour in our defence ...at the age of 23 ...in the season before moving to Fulham, where he has been a regular ever since !. ( That was a financial decision not a playing one ). The list of "rejected " young players is endless, but because someone goes elsewhere and becomes a success is not always a reflection on bad judgement. As a young boy, Terry Paine was rejected by Arsenal ...as too was David Beckham...(you can't win them all). I've never seen McLaggon play but I hope he gets a chance to make a career but it clearly won't be with Saints. If ..in the years to come Anthony Pulis gets to play in the Premiership ..or to play at International level.. there will be NO-ONE on this site willing to stand up and criticise the decision ..should we let him go in the near future ..OR .........?
