This squad is good enough for promotion

Saints do have a habbit of making things "entertaining" for fans, so I am expecting a few twist and turns on the run up to the end of the season. Just keep feeling we are going to play Bournemouth in the play off final at Wembley.....

You'd be wrong, because the play off finals are at Old Trafford!

Wow, a p*ssing contest started by NickG. How unusual.

Note how easy it is to say this with hindsight now that Puncheon is back and appears to want to win his place and now that Lallana has signed a new contract.....

Remember everyone, it is IMPOSSIBLE for Rickie Lambert to suffer a loss of form...

Not it isn't and no one said it wasn't. However we are 2nd (might be 3rd now) with him out of form, just think where we will be when he hits top form again.

Sorry to contradict you, duckie, but NickG said the very thing back in August.

I dont recall, i dont remember every post, especially not ones from 5 months ago. I do remember your constant bleating for us to sign back up for him though, appears we aren't doing to badly so far without it and with him not being on form or fit most of this season.

Possibly good enough.

Complete insanity not to buy a couple of players that would make it more of a nailed-on certainty if they become available.

How do you know? When was the last time you saw the team play? How can you have a balanced & realistic view on something you have never seen?

Also there is no such thing as buying plays makes the title a nail on certainty. Just ask Chelsea when they sign Shevckenko and Ballack and Man City now.

I do, it was saying we don't need to sign further stikers - which I stand by.

Every team has to cope with a player out of form here and there. It does not necessarily follow that the answer to the problem is to throw money at that problem and make things worse possibly. Just look at Ipswich and Roy Keane ....

I was right behind adkins and most of the players when others were saying adkins was a poor choice (and some continue to say) and we need 6 new playersblah blah blah...the only one I have been critical of, was guly..even then I admitted I was wrong

what the hell are you on about..?

look at any other teams squad, for example Brighton's forwards. No-ones got anywhere near our strength, every position we a at least two very able players.

we left out all the starting back 5 from our last win. Ox'c etc

Absolute rubbish.

You were extremely sarcastic and dismissive of the point that relying on Lambert was a mistake because he could so easily lose his form. You will recall that Lallana was also injured early in the season too.

We have been fairly lucky with injuries over the last 18 months - so I would beg to differ that we have enough at present to gain automatic promotion.

We still need a bit of cover in key areas before I will be ready to agree with the OP.

Careful dunc, not allowed to say that on here, especially today. Beating Blackpools reserves is a rubber stamp that We Will Walk This League ™, donchyaknow ?

Point is we have a stronger squad than anyone so if we do not add to it that will NOT be a reason for failure and I think Adkins and the players know that. No one has sadi we will walk the league but i think there is naturally an air of confidence about our prospects and why not.

You truly are the most tedious parasite over ten years of reading this forum.

Yes, but please stick him on your ignore list instead of quoting him (I can't see his posts, but I can see people quoting him). If everyone does that, nobody has to read this drivel.

I don't know i would disagree, the beginning of the season we had injuries, arrests and have had suspensions and injuries this season. We have coped fairly well under the pressure.

This is the point, i mean, could we make signings ?? Of course we could, we have the cash and arguably the pulling power. Problem is i suppose if we keep signing players we will alienate the players we already have here.

With Punch i think we only need another striker to replace Connolly, without i think we need a new striker AND a new wide man.

But all in all i would be happy with the squad left intact, especially if Guly is a permanent signing. We have more than ennough for this league, and should be competetive in the championship.

*Obviously any player that clearly improves the team is welcome.

I know, lets face it, not so long back we were 22nd and going nowhere according to some on here and now we are 2nd its still not good enough for them. Today was very very good and if anyone tells me that Blackpool side today wouldnt cut it in our league then they're talking rubbish. Its easier to finish outside of the top two than in it in any league, just ask Chelsea right now!

I'll just keep saying it in the ridiculous hope that one day you grasp it.

There is a difference between saying the squad is good enough and saying we will win the league. Do you acknowledge that?

We are good enough. Will we win the league? I hope so.

The only thing I'm sure of us that you'll hate it whatever happens.

Sorry to sink to your level and sorry to talk to you like a child, but ive no idea how else to communicate with you. Other people seem capable of conversation, but you seem unable to grasp anyones point, then just make stupid exagerrations. The thing that always annoys me most is people criticising arguments that were never even made, and that's your forte. You'll twist anything to say you're right.

I really hope you can change because for the most part it's a good forum, yet without fail you strive to take the joy out of every little thing. I don't care if I'm banned for criticising you because I can't out up with much more of you anyway.

At the end of the day Adrian, there is no point getting wound up by it, because Alpines opinion is irelevant. He bases his opinions on match commentries and what he reads on here. He has zero fist hand knowledge of any of our players, team or performances, in fact i do wonder when the last time he saw us play live was and indeed if he has ever seen any of our players play. I find it wierd that someone with so little first hand knowledge of the subjects he constantly discusses has such strong views but despite his vocifirous and arrogant views and postings his view means f*ck all as it is all entirely based on perception and heresay not any solid personally gained knowledge, therefore IMO, his comments mean nothing.

Nope. Its gibberish. If we really are good enough, the depth is there, there is no need to strengthen, why shouldnt we win it ? Sounds to me like you aint overly confident, which is bizarre considering the abuse you are dishing out at me.

If you cannot "put up with much more of me anyway", do us both a favour and stick me on ignore.

Every club in the world needs to strengthen, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Man Utd, Chelsea etc will all look to strengthen all the time. It doesn't mean that Barcelona aren't good enough to win the champion league now, it means that teams are always evolving, developing improving, there is no such thing as the perfect squad. In the same way we are good enough to win L1 now with the squad. So yes we do need to strengthen but if we dont right now it's not a disaster as what we have is good enough to win promotion. Is that clear enough for you? I know it's been a tough few weeks for you what with us winning 4 in a row and signing our best player up on a 4 year deal.
