Why sub Barnard

I am still confident that we will get second place but felt that was two points lost rather than one point gained last night. As soon as LB was substituted and he tried to close the game up you knew we werent leaving the Valley with 3 points. Is the pressure getting to us, we havent been playing well but still managing to win and pick up points but now have to contend with injuries to Lallana and Chamberlain and Morgan still out.

I think he was subbed because Adkins felt we needed some pace in the team and with Oxo going off we didn't have any. He probably felt that Charlton would go for it in the final 10mins, so we needed a threat on the break to relieve that from time to time.

Unfort. it didn't work, but it was the right thing to try and do.

Barnard looked mightily ****ed off too. He does a great job of holding the ball up and wins so many free kicks, I don't think it's coincidence that once he went off we couldn't retain the ball nearly as well.

Exactly this. Forte gave us more of a threat in behind which would have forced Charlton to be far more cautious when pressing. With Barnard there was practically no threat in behind so they could have pressed high and really forced us back into our own half.

Was Gully fit? I think I would have had him on over N'G first half if he was.

Forte for Barnard was the right call in terms of LB having given his absolute all for 80 mins - that RL would be some player if he put in half the effort of LB!

Guly was fit and came on for AOC.

He showed us clearly why N'Guessan came on first. Whatever Guly is, he is NOT a wide midfield player. He didn't play badly just he doesn't know what to do when he is there. We lost some of our shape and fluency, he had his moments and his corners seemed much more dangerous (and we scored from one)

But he is an attacking CM at best but ain't no wide boy

Oh and Barnard's legs had gone, he could have still done a job but he had lost half a yard

TBF, but for a bad decision we would have won so I don't really see the issue.
