Verbal Kint Posted 18 October, 2008 Share Posted 18 October, 2008 I hope Rupert thinks the million quid was worth it. Crazy crazy decision which continues to cost us. We repeatedly put out a defence with no experience whatsoever, and how we could do with him at the heart of it.
Arizona Posted 18 October, 2008 Share Posted 18 October, 2008 Relax, if he was here, he'd only be sat in the reserves with Rudi, John, BWP and any other players who've finished puberty.

As for our full backs....**** is too kind
Crouchie's Lawyer Posted 18 October, 2008 Share Posted 18 October, 2008 We need more experience. It is so blatent to see. Rudi and John need to be in the team with Perry and Wooton with youth around them. Why can all these people see it, yet the person (or people ) who picks the team not see this. DMcG is a waste of space. He has far too many shares in himself and consequently doesnt bother. He is has Rasiaks movement, with Ormerods finishing! Saint Martini Posted 18 October, 2008 Share Posted 18 October, 2008 If Davies had been here I'm sure he would have been played, its not like JP is refusing to play anyone over 25 (Wotton, Davis and Perry are all getting regular games and Svensson would as well if he would have been fit). The sale of Davies looks rather stupid now, but who's to say if we weren't forced to bring in another 1.5 million in player sales. I wish we still had him, he's exactely the type of player we need. A good loan replacement would be Baird in my opinion, he's the kind of leader we could use at the moment.

Wotton and Perry were free from Luton and Plymouth respectively and I doubt they'd be demanding Heaven and Earth wage wise. Davies on the other hand came from a Prem side and had a bright future. He was probably on more than CP and PW put together, ergo; he wouldn't have played. Davis is probably only in the side because we need an experienced head to keep most of our games in single figures behind such a dodgy defence. Well, something is preventing Skacel, John and BWP (appart from the obvious lack of ability) from playing regularly. I don't see why the same shouldn't apply to Davies. Will be interesting to see if Thomas or Euell ever makes it back into the first team.

BWP hasn't convinced in any of the matches he played in and he did get his chances. John has had his opportunities as well and hasn't exactely outperformed the other strikers available. Euell has been injured. As for Skacel, I don't know what the hell is going on with him.

VectisSaint Posted 18 October, 2008 Share Posted 18 October, 2008 Just a minor footnote, but Davies has yet to play a game for Stoke. I assume that is because he has not yet recovered from injury (I could be wrong), if so he would not have played for us either, thus making his contribution somewhat similar to that of Pulis at Saints Not only that but we would have been paying his wages and his medical bills up to now (perhaps we actually still are, given he hasn't played, and some folks think that Stoke are still paying for Pulis). I agree though we should not have sold him.

I'm not saying for a second that BWP should be in the team. If we can't play him because of financial restrictions, then at least we have found one good thing about being skint. My point is that he is, in all likelyhood, being left out for financial reasons and not because of his apparent lack of ability. Players like DMG continue to hold down a place in the team, despite numerous poor performances, yet BWP isn't even in the squad. Then there is also Nathan Dyer. I just do not get that loan. IMO we loaned him out because we pannicked in summer and offered him a nice juicy deal we couldn't really afford. No doubt thinking we could sell him for £3m in January after a few good performances. Then when Jan realised he wasn't actually all that good, we shipped him out to Sheffield to save cash.

Why are we offering Dyer a new contract, then offering him out on loan a few weeks later. Can only be for financial reason surely.

Well said. Let us not forget that Andrew Davies did not want to leave Saints. Says some guy who apparently met his brother, why are people so keen to believe it? It is not about falling for "the spin" it just isn't that hard to believe that he wanted to leave Saints, if you were not a Saints supporter and you were as talented as him would you stick around and play Championship football if a Premiership team was after you? When will people understand that we need the money? It is alright saying he would be worth more than a million pounds to us over the course of the season but the bank want money and they want it in pounds sterling. Chez Posted 18 October, 2008 Share Posted 18 October, 2008 Davies wanted to leave, he had a clause in his contract and we needed the money. I question the price, but if he had it written into his contract that he could go then what the **** could we do?

NickG Posted 19 October, 2008 Share Posted 19 October, 2008 JP is sometimes refreshingly niave/honest in interviews - he said that AD's agent had told him that he wanted to leave and had it written into his contract so there was nothing that Saints could do. Think this is more likely as don't think the club would care about us enough to make that up - and couldn't lie that openly about a player/agent/contract on radio without any comeback. Not true - Corsacar Saint (see a few posts before yours) was told by Davies's brother that he (Andrew) was more than happy at SMS and had just moved his girlfriend down here. Hardly the actions of a man getting ready to leave. ART Posted 19 October, 2008 Share Posted 19 October, 2008 On the subject of dodgy knees, (the list is impressive!!) maybe finally our Chairman and the club in general have learned from past mistakes. It's been enough with Svensson's knee for the past 3 seasons, so maybe Davis's transfer isn't all the doom and gloom it appeared to be. When he starts playing regularly and playing well for Stoke I'll grieve. Till then I'm inclined to think it's another nice bit of smart business by Rupert. Afterall we did take a dodgy injured Pulis Junior in part exchange. As for Rudi, hasn't it occured to some people he might have failed a medical at Ipswich but due to the old pals act between Sheep****ger and Lowe it's been quickly swept under the carpet awaiting some overseas idiot to come along and sign him. No point in alerting one and all that we have all these senior players with hidden injuries if we want to cash in on them in January. Cocaine by Eric Clapton is very popular these days amongst highlife sportsmen
