"Sorry to say there was also a bit of crowd trouble today, with a total of 20 arrests"

Great old footage, the archers road terrace looks good when packed. Interesting cup run that year with Brighton away as well and Liverpool at white hart lane

Don't you mean the east stand benches at half time? the replay the next tuesday was evening hairy to say the least..

I was a skinny 20 year old lad who was launched onto the Orange grit stuff they used to have around the pitch by some large cockney type only to he hurled back into the fray by a couple of rozzers.

When younger the place to be was the Archers Rd terrace, you then graduated to the East Stand terraces, then as you got a bit older and supposedly had a bit more money you sat in the West Stand benches! ah those were the days, 80s cup runs, top of the first division, Kevin Keegan the then european player of the year playing for us!

If I remember the replay correctly, we won 1-0 courtesy of a Danny Wallace run from the half way line.

The section next to us was full of East London lunatics scowling through the fence all game, and that was their family section.

There is a video somewhere (guess should have made it to Youtube by now) of it kicking off in the lower east benches and a few being nicked, then walked around the front of the Milton and footage of Millwall climing the fence of the far east side of the Archers and chucking coins down on those leaving the lower east terrace.

Well I would be in that video then, rather embarrasing. I was marched across in front of the Milton and thrown out, only to meet the Millwall lads outside. The return leg at the old Den was a scary evening and I remember the Millwall fans on the other side of the fence showing off their big carving knives at us. Horrible.

All them Millwall fans with their half Millwall, half Rangers woolie hats. Anyone still got a Saints/Rangers hat?

I loved those hats, had a red saints one to that design but not a saints/rangers half and half one, wish they still did them now!!

Ummm, those were the days! You shouldn't complain, they let you go when we got out, I got thrown in a bloody cell with four of them! Strange thing was, we had a bit of a chuckle about the whole thing, they said they didn't blaim us when I explained we'd been on red alert cos the word was that skates were meant to be in the east benches with them! £30 fine from memory.

Bloody hell!! You'd be looking at a couple of years clunk for that these days!

Ahh the square hats, a short lived fad. My mate collected them and had at last count 22 (last count being 1987). I took a Celtic panel out of another hat and stuck that in my Saints hat.

Talking of the Brighton game I was living in Sussex at the time and watching Brighton home and away (but a committed Saints fan) and was in the North Stand home end. They must have held the Saints fans back for a while because the away end was empty, then suddenly there was this roar and the Saints fans came running up the steps to the top and streamed down the terraces, it was like watching the Zulu arriving. It was impressive to a sixteen year old Saints fan. After the game I had my mate (the hat collector) square up to me, so I had to scrap my way out of the North Stand. Ahhh they were the days.

I remember this clearly. We had been given a section of terracing in the corner which was split in two by a fence. I was in one half which was pretty full and the adjoing section was empty until about 10 minutes before kick-off. We them heard a huge roar and Saints fans came pouring onto the terrace and the pre-match party began. Two early goals and an easy win made for a great atmosphere in our end.

Was anybody here in that late group, I assume it was a train held back?

I went to the replay.

Survived the ninety minutes OK, and the wait in pitch black behind one of the stands while we waited for the coaches to be brought round. Got dropped off at Waterloo to get a train back to Bracknell. I was sat in a carrage on my own when five Millwall fans sat next to me. I quckly shoved my program deep into my coat pocket so they couldn't see, and spent the journey pretending I hadn't been to the game.

They all from Bracknell, and lived on the same estate as me, so when we got back to Bracknell I spalshed out on a taxi, as I didn't fancy walking across town with them, in case the sussed me out.

Got home safely, only to find the front door kicked in and the house had been burgled!

My brother was on leave with a dozen other Matelots that weekend from HMS Londonderry and they also decended upon The Warren that sunny Millwall evening.... I have it on authority that one of that party escorted a Millwall fan from the top window in the evening.

I think you're getting your years mixed up, the incident in the Warrens happened on the day of the Salisbury v Millwall FA cup game if my memory serves me well
