Window Cleaner Posted 3 May, 2011 Share Posted 3 May, 2011 (edited) I never did understand why some over-21s can play in an under-21 squad. the rules concern the starting point of the competition. I guess that in this case the qualifying rounds must have started in September 2009 so all players who were under 21 at that time are still eligible for the Euro 2011 U 21 final tournament, trouble is Lallana wasn't U21 then.I could be wrong on the start point though, but as it's a tournament that takes place every 2 years if I remember rightly I can't see that the qualifying rounds would have started before the 2009 finals. To me Lallana is overage but perhaps there's some specific rule for that, there is in the Olympics...2 overage players per team. Window Cleaner Posted 3 May, 2011 Share Posted 3 May, 2011 Mancienne is way over age, he's already 23. There is no way that he could be eligible for the final tournament, so this looks like just a squad to play the build up games and get a look at players on the periphery of the full England group.Hammill is the same. SNSUN Posted 3 May, 2011 Share Posted 3 May, 2011 I'd be great to see Adam in his natural habitat at St Mary's against Norway, but I'm working. I hope he does go to Denmark and show everyone his class.
Ewell Posted 3 May, 2011 Share Posted 3 May, 2011 I can only guess a local factor was needed as the U21 game at St Mary's is not selling too well. I fully expect he will be one of the 17 excused from international duty before the U21 tournament starts.
Tamesaint Posted 3 May, 2011 Share Posted 3 May, 2011 I am pleased for Adam but ..... what about his troublesome groin injury?? I would much prefer him to get a decent rest and to come back for pre season fully fit and fresh. According to Solent he is not fit enough to train at the moment. What kind of rest will he get this summer if he is playing in noddy European competitions for the under 21s??
musesaint Posted 3 May, 2011 Share Posted 3 May, 2011 Great news but is this ideal? Protect the groin and all other parts of the Deity
