Northernsaint Posted 9 October, 2011 Share Posted 9 October, 2011 As thread title says I have a 316i SE 2000 e46 bmw at mo which is lovely and has full leather etc, paid £1200 for it with 90k miles in good nick. Only problem is I want to tour Europe for my honeymoon in March and am going to need a diesel. Budget is whatever i get for the 1.9 petrol bmw plus £500 so probs £1500-£1700. Must have at least June 2012 test Options so far: Laguna DCi Vectra DCi High mile 320D Mondeo TDCI 115/130 VAG 1.9tdi A4/A3/Golf/Passat I like the big car feel of the BM as its my first saloon, don't really want to go back to a hatch. Anyone got any other suggestions. Based in the northwest if anyone wnats to link any? Thanks in advance Garry

Chin Strain Posted 10 October, 2011 Share Posted 10 October, 2011 The 1.9 diesels in the A4 and Passat are excellent. What about a diesel Honda? It'd have to be a civic at that price, but they'll do some pretty majpr miles.
egg Posted 10 October, 2011 Share Posted 10 October, 2011 Vag or mondeo from that list. Vectra and laguna awful cars. Alfa 156 worth looking at. The diesel lumps go on forever and are very powerful and economical. Lots of kit too.

hutch Posted 12 October, 2011 Share Posted 12 October, 2011 If you're planning to tour Europe in a "new" car make sure your satnav is up to speed for the countries you'll be travelling in. I drove down to the south of France a few years ago in a vectra with my nephew in a mondeo. The mondeo had a problem, and I was able to locate all the nearest Ford dealers on the vectra satnav.
