Anyone else considering buying one? For me, the waterproof/dustproof factor is quite an important. Depending on the price, I might actually get this My contract expires next month too after 2 years with an iPhone! Anyone elses views?
Colinjb Posted 24 February, 2014 Share Posted 24 February, 2014 A little underwhelmed. Mind you, no phones are really shaking things up now. The screens have all reached the point where individual pixels are essentially indistinguishable, they all run all manner of apps and the cameras are as good as you would ever need for casual use. A shame that Samsung persist with the plastic build materials but considering that the first things that's generally done with a phone is that it's thrown into a case renders the premium materials of it's rivals moot. My S3's contract is ending soon and frankly, there is nothing on the market that looks to be that big an improvement. I may just go with a giff-gaff sim for the short term until something really nice comes out.
Jonnyboy Posted 24 February, 2014 Share Posted 24 February, 2014 Apple is already thrashed. Cant believe people still buy iphones.
BlakeySFC Posted 25 February, 2014 Share Posted 25 February, 2014 Gave the S4 a miss last year because I thought it was too similar to the S3 I had (went with an Xperia Z1 instead) this too looks pretty similar really, and a bit dull…won't be getting a new phone until September 2015 anyway so the S6 will be out by then I would've thought. angelman Posted 25 February, 2014 Share Posted 25 February, 2014 I had the S2 before it got wet and fried itself. Then decided that it did more than I needed/understood, so ever since have gone for budget phones. So, no, not going to get S5 as the Moto G on my SIM only contract does all that I need. The9 Posted 23 March, 2014 Share Posted 23 March, 2014 I had an S2 for 2 years, went to giffgaff for 3 months, dropped it, and now have a Note3 (with free Galaxy Gear watch which has since been superseded), would be surprised if S5 delivers much more than Note3 has. My mate got the Note 3... It looks ridiculous? It is too big for my liking, not gonna lie. It'll be good for films etc though...
Suhari Posted 23 March, 2014 Share Posted 23 March, 2014 Seriously. Get to a Vodafone or Carphone Warehouse on the evening of 25th. There is only One.
stthrobber Posted 24 March, 2014 Share Posted 24 March, 2014 Well I've had an S3 for nearly 2 years and I'm growing to hate the bloody thing. Poor battery life, unresponsive and slow and the keyboard is so sensitive that I always type the wrong words. The bluetooth is unreliable, I'm constantly having to pair it with my car which is a pain in the arse when I've driven off only to see it hasn't connected. I never once had such an issue with my old iPhone 4, so I might be happy going back to an iPhone when upgrade time is due. I also get a pretty poor signal at home, but whether that's down to poor coverage by Vodafone, or the phone I'm really not sure, but it does annoy me when we go out to restaurants and my mates are quite happily looking up stuff and I've got no signal. Maybe I'll bin Vodafone too

You can always buy a spare battery, download SwiftKey which is a much better keyboard not sure why your bluetooth is unreliable, mine always worked well. stthrobber Posted 24 March, 2014 Share Posted 24 March, 2014 I take your point but you shouldn't have to buy spares and extras to make a phone better. I've taken Suharis advice and looked at the HTC One. It's a possibility

It's a possibility The HTC One (M8 is simply awesome. It is WAAAAYYYY better than the original 2013 HTC One (which I loved).....and that's widely regarded as the best smartphone ever made. Got my M8 last week. I am genuinely stunned by how good it is; my mates won't leave it alone when I'm in the pub. It feels so solid and well made; it's quick, the screen is excellent and the camera software, which allows all kinds of on-device editing is incredible. At the very least, if you're looking for a new device, pick up a live M8 and try it out.

Other than being well made which is up for debate since most phones are in a case, how is it hugely different from most other top end Androids? Imo they are all fairly similar.
