SaintRobbie Posted 4 January, 2009 Share Posted 4 January, 2009 'Surman is going no-where in the forseeable future.' LOL! He's off next week then. Why put in that line on the OS? What a bloody joke.
St Marco Posted 4 January, 2009 Share Posted 4 January, 2009 If he goes out on loan to Fulham with a view to a permanent deal then i can imagine things will get very nasty for our board at the games.
RobM Posted 4 January, 2009 Share Posted 4 January, 2009 I never understand the logic in interviews like this, if it's clear a player is leaving. Surman can't claim not to know anything... if he knows nothing he needs a new agent who can communicate properly! But why make the effort to state you're going nowhere if you know you are? All that does is gets peoples hopes up and makes you look a liar when you walk out. Not the way to win respect in the game, IMO. If he said nothing and moved, claiming he wanted Prem football experience and a new club to learn from, I don't think people would feel anything bad towards him. Towards the fact he has left, sure, but not him personally as we can all understand wanting to play in the Prem.
hypochondriac Posted 4 January, 2009 Share Posted 4 January, 2009 As far as I am aware he isn't going anywhere. As I have said before, his girlfriend is training to be a nurse in southampton. If he were to move anywhere it would be nearby but as yet I haven't heard anything. I haven't spoken to andy for a while though
RobM Posted 4 January, 2009 Share Posted 4 January, 2009 London is an easy commute though, as is Reading. So teams like Fulham and Reading who have both been linked with Surman are believable. There are also some very nice places to live that sit inbetween these locations and Southampton, making it easy for both to commute.

RobM Posted 4 January, 2009 Share Posted 4 January, 2009 Surman was largely anonymous today, which can't have helped him display to the world that he is ready for Prem football. If he had stood out at all then fair enough, but I can't remember anything he did today or hearing / seeing his name once?

InvictaSaint Posted 4 January, 2009 Share Posted 4 January, 2009 I love this phrase he uses - so many players do: "I don't read the papers". He doesn't read the papers?! What the hell does he do with all his free time?! Does he studiously avoid the plentiful copies of the Sun and the Mirror which litter the dressing room and training ground? What does Andrew read then - The Economist? The Spectator? It's almost as amusing a white lie as him saying he expects to be here at the end of January. Benj540 Posted 4 January, 2009 Share Posted 4 January, 2009 Tad harsh, their first attempt on goal would have been in if it wasn't for Drew. Indeed was a harsh, I apologise. However I think he is very over rated and doesn't offer us in the centre of midfield. He is to weak and he frustrates me no end, when he stands there and doesn't challenge for headers, atleast Gobern does when he played centre mid against Reading. Glasgow_Saint Posted 4 January, 2009 Share Posted 4 January, 2009 Well if Drew continues to play like he did today, we will be paying someone to take him. he was very poor today but played out of position today imo. hes better on the wing, where he can knock in some decent crosses! He was bad today but so were the rest did we even have a shot on target today - the only thing i enjoyed today was the banter in the stands around me - you either laugh or cry at times like this! Well I don't know about playing out of position, I though centre mid was his prefered position. As when he is out on the right he never seems to stay out wide. SaintRobbie Posted 4 January, 2009 Share Posted 4 January, 2009 He showed how overrated he is today. He is nowhere near premiership class. That swap deal with baird on loan, take it!!! You know, much as I do believe Surman loves the shirt and wants to be here - and he actually IS one of our better players (a damning indictment of our squad) - you are on to something there. I would swap Surman now for Bairdy. Too bloody right! With Bairdy - Perry - Skacel and Davis (plus another MAN) we'd have a defence. I dont think we'll see Svensson enough to make a difference sadly. Bailey Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 How are people slating Surman after today's performance? In case alot of you didn't realise, he spent the majority of the game playing for a side with 10 men against the WORLD CHAMPIONS! Surman always had a hard task today, made even harder by the sending off. He was asked to play in a 3 man midfield for part of the game and when you're up against a side like Man Utd who keep the ball so well, then it's to be expected that he struggles to make an impact. For what it's worth, I thought he worked his socks off and showed how committed to the cause he really is. He ran all game and despite being a man down, he still put himself about and refused to give up. I can't believe how quick people are to criticise our own players, and it's made all the more unbelievable when you think who the opposition were today!
