Legod Third Coming Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 And if you think KP, why was Rupert wrong to side with the players over Sturrock?? For me, this case and Sturrock are really interesting. It kind of says to me, that the bigger the players, the bigger the manager needed. And might explain why Wotton and JP don't see eye to eye whereas some of the younger players would respect him totally. I love management but I really think it is the toughest gig in the world. benjii Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 I think it is a different scenario really. The role of a captain in cricket is much more far reaching than the role of a captain in football. Interesting comparison though... I think however you look at it Lowe messed up big-time. Either he was right to sack Sturrock, in which case it was an awful appointment or he was wrong to sack Sturrock in which case he compunded this error by making an awful managerial appointment in his replacement. I wonder if he'll ever do that again..... whoops.

Totally different scenario, KP should have all the power, he is responsible for tactics, on the field decision making regarding who bowls, setting the field etc. The coach in cricket really should be about coaching - ie ironing out technical issues, coming up with plans for the opposition, bits of admin. I dont think either is right. But if according to the press both Collingwood and Vaughan had similar reservations Moores may not be the best person. The Sturrock situation is slightly different in that Sturrock may have wanted to go himself but the crazy decision to appoint Wigley as coach without someone with experience like Gorman or Jim Smith to help still beggars belief
derry Posted 6 January, 2009 Share Posted 6 January, 2009 Get rid of Moore, appoint another coach, drop Pietersen from the West Indies squads, pick the captain from the squad, leave Vaughan at home until he can start performing.

saintdownunder Posted 7 January, 2009 Share Posted 7 January, 2009 As the great Shane Warne once said The only coach he ever needed in cricket, is the coach that pick`s you up in the morning of a test match and take`s you from your hotel to the ground. Quality Warney! However at Saints i hope the coach does not deliver the team to Barnsley this saturday as I fear us hitting a all time Lowe. Leicestersaint Posted 7 January, 2009 Share Posted 7 January, 2009 What a total mess! Strauss as captain will be hopeless i fear. The England Cricket Board seem about as effective as Saints board! Hopeless.
cambsaint Posted 7 January, 2009 Share Posted 7 January, 2009 What a mess....KP put his ego before his duty as team captain and aired his dirty linen in public. I always had my doubts about him as captain-compare with the equally single-minded Boycott a disaster as captain. Correct decision to let him go. Moore just wasn't up to the job but should have been sacked quietly behind closed doors. I expect we'll have Strauss, but imo we should bring back Vaughan and see if he is good enough to be a Brierley type of captain. His cover drive is still the most elegant in cricket and his form will return. We just have to hope that English cricket can unite as a team and beat the Aussies when they are at their most vulnerable for years. Cambsaint PS Its shows what a mess Saints are in when I find cricket in the winter more interesting than Saint's football.
Sheff Saint Posted 7 January, 2009 Share Posted 7 January, 2009 I always thought Hoggard would have made a good captain, but seeing as he had that one bad game he's not managed a look in since!
saint1977 Posted 7 January, 2009 Share Posted 7 January, 2009 KP's ultimatum was a bit strong but it has been clear to all England supporters - well perhaps not some Moores loyalists from Sussex - that Moores is not up to the job. Giles Clarke has been a disaster ever since he arrived from Somerset to promote the counties agenda, the sponges of England cricket that for the most part squander the money brought in by the national team that keeps them alive. Clarke should go first and foremost and take Hugh Morris with him. I'm sick of the counties, they have held England back for so long. Divide the LV CCC into 3 divisions and make the third level part-time. We wouldn't need so many Kolpak players to bring up the standard (which sadly they certainly do) as there would be less professional teams with a smaller but higher quality and more densely populated quality. Master Bates Posted 7 January, 2009 Share Posted 7 January, 2009 They've both gone, by the way. Not yet fella, not yet THE ECB have denied reports claiming Kevin Pietersen has quit as England skipper. Pietersen's captaincy has been under threat since he went public with details of a bust-up with head coach Peter Moores. And the batsman is rumoured to have dodged the axe by handing in his resignation. Stories circulating this morning also suggest Moores has stepped down from his post. But English cricket chiefs insist they have no knowledge of either man deciding to resign. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/cricket/article2104766.ece
Leicestersaint Posted 7 January, 2009 Share Posted 7 January, 2009 Well he's gone now and we've got a nicely spoken public schoolboy back as captain. English cricket really is run by a total bunch of losers!
