Gemmel Posted 17 February, 2009 Share Posted 17 February, 2009 Not including the board, shareholders, or previous chairmen, directors etc, (There's enough threads on them) but i read a name on here today that put me in a bad mood as soon as i saw it and was thinking of players, ex managers, that Saints fans have hated or grown to hate over the years. Any advance on these five? (Not in any particular order) 1) Adrian Heath (Little *****) 2) Alan Bailey (Biley? Everton) 3) Ian Branfoot 4) Paul Davis 5) Ricardo Fuller ( More recently) Darren Anderton, got some proper stick when he went to Spurs, but never did anything against Saints

Bailey had wound up a young Steve Williams who was then sent off. I think Osgood then chinned Bailey as he was so annoyed and also got sent off. The two of them then trashed the dressing room!!!!! Ossie was soon transfer listed and the hatred of Bailey never went away. I think Lawrie publicly said something along the lines of "Bailey shouldn't sleep easily in his bed tonight for what he did to his fellow professionals". Heard a few years ago that Bailey had fallen on really hard times (I think he was an acoholic and in a very bad way). Therefore as much as he got stick off me in the 70's and 80's. I think I'll leave him out of my list. My top three would be: 1. Adrian Heath - He ruined a dream for me 2. Roger Milford - For playing those extra 16 minutes against Oldham 3. Andy Ricthie - For scoring in those extra 16 minutes

But times a great healer, and it gives me no pleasure to hear he has problems.

As the teams came out to warm up @ 2.15 the whole ground started "We hate Bailey". Even Grannies in the west stand were joining in. I was down by the the tunnel and when they came off he looked bloody worried. It carried on once the game started, every time he got anywhere near the ball and also affected Blackburn as a team. We ****ed all over them and won 5-0. We didnt see him again until he moved to Everton and he copped a load at Highbury in the 84 S/F.

Being a full back at the Dell meant he couldn't hide from the stick he used to receive. I was in the West Stand for one match against Everton, and it has to be the most vociferous stick I have ever witnessed at a match. As you say it was literally everyone in the ground. I used to work with an Everton fan and he couldn't believe the stick Bailey used to get even though it 7 or 8 years on!!!

I remember queuing up to get the players's autographs after that match. A young lad came up to Bailey after that match and asked for his autograph and Bailey replied "you won't boo me will you ??" I bet he had.

Lets B Avenue Posted 17 February, 2009 Share Posted 17 February, 2009 Another one we ued to abuse from under the west was Alan Groves, Oldham circa 76. Loads of stick from us (Hi Polly) but sadly died in 78 of a heart attack aged 30. Moral: leave the fit young ones alone.

um pahars Posted 17 February, 2009 Share Posted 17 February, 2009 A player I detested in the 80's was Ian Rush. I had him down as my number 4. and then deleted him. I have to agree he had a real wnk attitude (whingeing, could dish it out but couldn't hack it given back) whenever I saw him play down here and I may be wrong, but was sure he always scored against us!!!!!! Graham Sharpe of Everton was a similar player. Didn't Case or someone absolutley murder him (or was it Bracewell) up at Goodison in one game??? um pahars Posted 17 February, 2009 Share Posted 17 February, 2009 Brian Talbot. talentless t*at that kept being picked for England over Stevie Williams I have to say that I quite liked him and the same can be said about John Wile. My appreciation of Talbot stems from that 1978 Semi Final when he scored the goal (at Highbury I think) against West Brom and in doing so collided with Wile and both of them ended up with really bad cuts. I'm sure Talbot was totally out of it, but ended up a hero even though he was stretchered off, whilst Wile just put a bandage on his head and played on!!!!!!
