Man of the match

Jason Euell for me.

The guy put in a first class performance and he brought the best out of Saga.

Euell put himself about, challenged for every ball, went up for every header and chased everything.

Good to see him bringing the players together and rallying them when Preston scored too.

I think Skacel has a good game today. He looked composed even when they got a goal back, heads went down and the play was rushed and the ball was getting lumped hopelessly upfield, Rudi kept his cool and tried to keep possession.

Euell had a good game, he was just a tireless nuisance.

Saga had a good game, so did McGoldrick put in the effort and kept chasing.

Gillett also had a good game, just tirelessly chased everything tackled everywhere, made some good runs.

Overall though I think the TEAM played well, they looked like a team today not just a bunch of blokes chucked together.

When did we go a goal down? Or was I at the wrong game?

Gillet for me. Tireless in midfield. Euell was also good, best game I have seen him ever play for us. McGoldrick was first class also. Centre backs were top draw aswell. Everyone except Skacel was good for me today. He couldn't cross a road. Love his composure in all situations though as mentioned above. Other than that I thought he was average like he has been ever since he has joined us.

I'm no DMcG fan but I thought he was excellent in an attacking midfield role (seemed to have the weight of carrying the front line, lifted from his shoulders).

I thought all had decent performances yesterday, with special mention to the front 2, Gillett and James (both of whom, are usually average at best). That said, I still think the best player on the park was Preston's Paul Mckenna, who was absolutely everywhere and who's positional sence was outstanding. The rest of their team, certainly in the first half were pants.

JE Man of the Match

There is no pleasing some folks, McG worked his socks off and even got a standing ovation when subbed !

A guy called 'Cider Bob' called Radio Solent after the game and said that Euell was useless too !

You couldn't make it up, eh ???

I wouldn't like to pick a MOM. I thought that for once they all played like a team. The shape was good and consistent, until the subs perhaps. In was impressed by the way that the forwards and midfield closed down the opposing fullbacks. At one point in the second half there were several crunching blocks in succession which really got the crowd going. Even McG left the pitch to warm applause. For me, what made the difference was the presence of the experience and professionalism of Skacel, Euell and Saga. For sure, James could have got higher up the pitch before launching the ball in and it was some time before I realised that Lallana was playing. If Gillett cold pass to his team-mates more he could be an outstanding player. If I had to pick one it would perhaps be Euell.

Size was MOM for me. I've not enjoyed watching a centre back play this much since Killer was at his best. IMO the best CB we've had at the club since Killer was injured. Strong, aggressive, determined, pacey and good on the ball.

I also thought Surman was a real class act once more. Looked really fired-up. Quality player.

As others have said - you could make a good case for just about anyone for MOM - there were no poor performances.

I agree with JE but DmcG i am not sure he always seemed to be just jogging about when he had defensive duties to perform.I think i just dislike this bloke full stop as he seems to just be an ego on legs.

You have to disregard previous and take each match differently. He played an important part in a true team effort. He may have found his better position which is not upfront, and was a good link between defence and attack, and bustled about quite purposefully on Saturday.
