hoozonside10 Posted 27 February, 2009 Share Posted 27 February, 2009 It's a bit like the Nigerian scammers - they send out countless numbers of emails knowing that most people will ignore them, they only need a couple of positive responses and it is money well spent. As earlier stated it is a very cost effective form of promotion - don't see the problem myself.
70's Mike Posted 27 February, 2009 Author Share Posted 27 February, 2009 be interesting to know how many of those who do not have a problem with it ,actually are season ticket holders and received it. as for discounted rate , the saving is the cost of a match ticket, which i have already paid for

hamster Posted 27 February, 2009 Share Posted 27 February, 2009 Hang on a minute though, this has given me an idea. What if TSW bought a box for next season, and game by game drew members names from a hat to take advantage? Not only would this boost renewals, but it would give us all the opportunity to meet up with each other on a totallky random basis, and hug, whilst getting ****ed up. Don;t thank me. Still a rich person like you will be snapping their figures off to accept It's called upselling. No different to an airline selling you an upgrade or a fast food joint asking you if you want to go large - often the best source of additional revenue is from your existing customers - especially in times like these. Good marketing practice IMO (apart from the 'stunning' bit) As per people taking up the offer, many do respond to direct marketing (whether it be mail shots, eblasts or telemarketing). An email broadcast to STHs would cost no more than a few hundred quid, so one 'upgrade' would more than pay for the excercise. If STHs are running at 10k and they have 5k email addresses on file, they only need to find 1 from 5000 to make it viable. Email marketing response rates run at a 20% open rates (for arguments sake 1000 people) and a 10% click through rate, so on 5k STHs - 100 would click through to view the offer. The chances are that more than 1 in 100 'interested' people would take up the offer. It has clearly worked for them before as this is not the first time they have done it, so I can't see any problem with it. There is one thing the Lowe regime does understand and that is how to exploit a loyal customer base - I am not having a go at them for this, it is just the way it is when a significant number of 'customers' will buy the product irrespective of the quality being served up / value on offer. Every other football club in the land would and probably is doing the same.

Mike, you always strike me as one of the few sensible posters we have on here, so I'm sure you will see the need (When you think about it). The club stand at the door of going out of business and need to generate money from any source. So, they mail/email anyone on the club's database and hope it gets people to spend (more than they have already!). I really don't see any problem. If it upsets you, just delete the email or pay up and enjoy the match with a nice lunch and a beer or three.

Thanks for the comments Norm I do delete their e-mails my problem with it is, and i do appreciate the need to generate cash at this time, is that it is simply not a good deal , it is over priced and shows a lack of understanding . And at the end of the thread you seem to be acknowledging that it is not a bad idea - you just want to haggle a bit over the price. I do know of 3 season ticket holders who have taken this offer very seriously because if you consider the meal and the unlimited booze, it works out close to a good night out anyway! The type who writes to complain to the BBC about a programme they never even watch or listened to but to support those who did complain against the disgusting filth shown on TV etc. It shows how ridiculous your logic is when you state that you would be willing to pay £50 and not £70. To many ST holders even £50 may be beyond their limits so are the club to target their promotions solely for your ideals. I think it is you who shows the lack of understanding about the club undertaking a simple marketing opportunity that may increase their revenue in difficult times. Meanwhile, you obviously welcome any opportunity to jump on your negative bandwagon. God forbid you find out the executive loos use triple ply toliet tissue when they should be using pages from the Sun. I have just read an article in a money magazine that if you smile and act friendly you can pretty much haggle a discount on most things so perhaps your £50 offer will be well received or you you could steam in and demand to see the management about this disgustingly offensive email that gives an offer that is overpriced by a score in your estimation. The effing b'stards - who do they think they are, what scum, no wonder you can't support the club and no doubt why your son has become so disillusioned because of the negativity that must pervade his home. dubai_phil Posted 28 February, 2009 Share Posted 28 February, 2009 Think we looked at this the wrong way round.... Hospitality- was it in a box or just in one of the "suites" 70 quid for "all you can drink" while Saints are playing - from about 1pm til about 5pm sounds like a far better way to spend the afternoon than actually having to watch the match (as according to many the football hasn't been worth watching anyway) Now that I reckon shows that people at the club clearly understand the pain we are in and wish to help do their bit to alleviate it Booze - the last resort of the depairing saints fans.... winky irony smiley thingy

I'm surprised you haven't told us how your young son is to disillusioned to go to the game today as usual, do you have a new record? Ouch! A tad 'hard' on Mike, imo. He was just questioning the clubs marketing ideas. As a S/T holder, he probably felt that as he had paid for his ticket, why would he want to pay again for the same thing. He does have a point but in my view, the club needs to make every effort to bring more cash into the 'till'. Knowing him ( from his posts on here) I'm sure he has thought again and sees that it is a must situation for the club. Hence the emails. Enjoy the game, Mike and don't worry too much at NC's post.
