Saints consider Swans Dyer offer

Nathan Dyer described Swansea as the "Arsenal of the Championship"

Cash-strapped Southampton are considering a bid from Swansea City to make Nathan Dyer's loan deal permanent.

The 21-year-old winger has been on loan at the Liberty Stadium since January, scoring four times in 20 appearances as the Swans push for a play-off place.

Dyer spent three months on loan at Sheffield United earlier in the season where he started just three times.

A spokesman for Southampton said: "Swansea have made a bid and a bid is still under consideration."

The Swans were linked with a permanent move for Dyer at the end of the January transfer window, with Southampton reportedly holding out for £750,000.

Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins said at the time that the club would not be "pushed into a corner" over a fee.

Since then, the Saints holding company Southampton Leisure Holding has been put into administration with debts of £27.5m.

606: DEBATE

How much do you think Nathan Dyer is worth?

That could mean the Swans getting him for a cheaper fee with Southampton now reported to be looking for £500,000.

Dyer is one of the Saints prize assets after coming through the trainee ranks at St Mary's and was awarded a new three year contract last summer.

But after making one start, he was loaned out to United, who later had a £1.2m bid turned down.

Swansea moved to bring the youngster in on loan when the January transfer window opened.

When he arrived, Dyer said: "Swansea are the Arsenal of the Championship and their style was the main attraction for me."

Oh dear, Rupert, this seems like some very silly business if true

It was a deal 1.2m deal but we were to get Robertson in that fee at a figure of 500k if both parties were happy. Therefore we were getting 700k plus Robertson and wages Edited by OldNick

At the AGM Lowe said Sheffield Utd had sent Dyer back having only played him a handful of times. This article is rubbish

The potential of a deal isn't the same as making an offer. We see enough posters confused about expressions of interest in SLH and this is yet another example. As others have commented, it depended on the satisfactory conclusion of 3 months loan spells for Dyer and Robertson. As neither proved themselves satisfactory, there was no offer made to be turned down.

The reality is that because we are currently up #### creek without a paddle, any perspective purchasers of our players will play hard-ball as Swansea are doing at present. Football is a bastion of capitalism in a raw tooth and claw state. Saints are the weak animal being hunted down by predators. You have all seen the David Attenborough films...

I don't believe the 1.2m offer, but do think we were offered 500k for him from Swansea in January. Seeing as how Lowe knew the exact placement of the goalposts at this time (he is blaming admin on them moving in Sept) I believe it is absolutely mental that we turned this down.

The way it looks is as though this £1.2m was part of a pre-agreed deal subject to both clubs wanting to keep the other clubs player. Things like this are often agreed in advance when a player goes on loan.

So if Dyer performed for Utd and Robertson performed for us, we already had a deal on the table that was Robertson + however much money for Dyer. Total value, £1.2m

As it didn't work out for either player and club, it never happened.

we were not offered 500k in jan, it was 350k. Seeing there was post that Dyer had gone for 500k last week it shows that was off the mark as well.

agreed. We wanted £500,000 and they failed to match that figure. Now they have come back with an offer of just £200,000 and we are considering it.
