hypochondriac Posted 22 May, 2009 Share Posted 22 May, 2009 What a disgrace to football this man is. No loyalty whatsoever. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/s/sunderland/8059012.stm
rocknrollman no2 Posted 22 May, 2009 Share Posted 22 May, 2009 I lost a lot of respect for him when he refused to play for us and went on strike. Hes a total mercenary. Hope he breaks his leg and cant play football ever again.
Weston Saint Posted 22 May, 2009 Share Posted 22 May, 2009 Actually Le Tissier said he was not sure he would stay if we went down....we did not in his time so no need for a decision but Jones is saying nothing different in my opinion. Agree though his strike action here was well out of order. Would never wish him harm though.
AndyNorthernSaints Posted 22 May, 2009 Share Posted 22 May, 2009 Alot of fans forget he went on strike refusing to play for us before leaving. Kev Phillips gets alot of grief on here for some ill advised words after he left but Jones's strike seems to get forgotten?
Arizona Posted 22 May, 2009 Share Posted 22 May, 2009 No way Hull are going to beat Man Utd, so it's pretty much irrelevant really. Three other thoughts: 1. Jones is a (0(K 2. I really really really hope the barcodes go down. 3. Why do we criticise players like Beattie and Skacel for wanting out, when they go about it WAY more proffesionally than Jones, Eyal, Phillips and Kachloul. I wouldn't want him playing for my team if I supported Sunderland.

Kev Phillips gets alot of grief on here for some ill advised words after he left but Jones's strike seems to get forgotten? I know that he went on strike and that was unforgivable, however have any of you read the article or have you just jumped to conclusions? He said "If we stay up I am definitely going to be here. If we go down I don't know what is going to happen," - What is wrong with that? Of course he doesn't know, he might have to be sold, Chelsea might come in for him. He also says : "I can't say what happens, I just have to do the best I can for the team." - what is wrong with that?

Skacel got stick because people thought he would be better than he turned out to be and looked "lazy" to some for some unknown reason. Beattie was pobably one of our best players of recent time. I love him and hope he can play for us in a few years regardless of what division we are in.

Sbragia, it should also be stressed, is also having to combat the failed excesses of the latter days of Roy Keane's reign. Too many players not justifying exorbitant price tags, too many players not appearing to care where Sunderland end up. I would never suggest Kenwyne Jones does not care, but it must have been galling for Sunderland fans to hear him suggesting he could be off if they are relegated. Jones might have spared himself this awful dilemma had he threatened to break into something akin to a brisk trot when Sunderland could have saved themselves at West Brom. http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/philmcnulty/2009/05/it_was_once_claimed_the.html
rocknrollman no2 Posted 22 May, 2009 Share Posted 22 May, 2009 The fact that Jones wanted out isnt a problem.I understand players wanting to leave for all types of reasons. Some players like Beattie,Crouch(before he went to the Skates),Higginbotham etc left the club and i thought fair enough and thanks. But Jones went the wrong way about it and flatly refused to play for us until he was allowed to go. So thats why i hope he doesnt do too well in football. exit2 Posted 22 May, 2009 Share Posted 22 May, 2009 the only loyal people in football is the fans end of. People forget this just a job for them and money talks sadly, as it does in any profession. Contracts mean ****e these days
planetcory Posted 23 May, 2009 Share Posted 23 May, 2009 I posted this in the other Kenwyne thread regarding his strike. Here's what happened behind the scenes: He was promised he could talk to Premiership clubs, but the Derby bid was blocked and the Sunderland bid was hidden from him. That's why he went on strike. Childish, maybe. But it was because he felt he was lied to.
Calvin Posted 23 May, 2009 Share Posted 23 May, 2009 he has a fair point. Why would Jones want to play in the championship again. I can't blame Jones on this type of scenario.

Saints were trying to get the best price for him. Jones going on strike made him look like a **** but that's because he is one.

Rest assured if Sunderland and/or Derby were in for him then their agents/advisors would have been straight on to Jones' agent letting them know and whispering in his ear. The idea that you could keep another club's interest away from a player in todays world doesn't stack up. He may well have been pssed off that we were playing hardball for a decent fee and he could see the Premier £££££'s fading away, but that was no reason for him to go on strike. And didn't he even try to use the death of the Seville player to justify his actions?

Claimed the death of the player 'inspired' him to go on strike, even though he went on strike about 3 days before the player died. And the idea that bids were somehow hidden from Kenny is laughable. Smirking_Saint Posted 23 May, 2009 Share Posted 23 May, 2009 I f*cking hate him for the way he left the club. I really do, i am sorry for those feelings but it just shows all that is bad. We take him from obscurity, he came here as a midfielder i believe, he then goes on 'strike' to leave the club and tries to blame it on the death of another player ?? Unforgiveable IMO. I have no bad feelings for players moving on to better themselves, beattie, crouch etc, fair play they had good offers and left the club with no hard feelings, beattie repayed us for a few good seasons, fair enough liverpool came in for crouch. But Jones ?? Nothing but the worst you see in professional footballers today.
Yate Saint Posted 23 May, 2009 Share Posted 23 May, 2009 Lost all my respect when he went on strike. There was no need for it. Ah well, he didn't want to be here so would have been crap for us anyway. Amazing to think how crap he was to begin with.
buctootim Posted 23 May, 2009 Share Posted 23 May, 2009 TBH I havent really followed him at Sunderland. Has he improved, is he worth more than sold him for? Do we have a sell on?
planetcory Posted 23 May, 2009 Share Posted 23 May, 2009 How was it "hidden" from him? Every single fan knew about the Derby and Sunderland interest long before he went on strike. Not true. Derby, yes. But rumours of a Sunderland bid first became public on August 17th. http://www.sunderlandecho.com/sport?articleid=3120280 Until then there were murmurs among Sunderland fans "in the know", but that's it. "Every single fan" knew nothing about a Sunderland bid until around that time. Neither did Kenwyne. He threw his toys out few days later. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/s/southampton/6962283.stm And the deal was done in a week. http://www.socawarriors.net/forum/index.php?topic=30441.0 It's truth. The Sunderland bid was initially hidden from him. The board was told he didn't want to leave. Rumors of the bid came up, Kenwyne started asking questions, felt he was lied to, went on strike. Here are peopl with personal access and information: http://www.socawarriors.net/forum/index.php?topic=30335.msg346776#msg346776 http://www.readytogo.net/smb/showpost.php?p=4571173&postcount=33 There was more behind the scenes that most people know. Smirking_Saint Posted 23 May, 2009 Share Posted 23 May, 2009 He's still massively overrated IMO anyway. Nah, i hate him but respect where respect is due, think he has got better. He has all the attributes of a good player, pace, height, scores goals. Unfortunately he also has an over-inflated ego and an ambition that seems to involve cash and upsetting the fans. Give him 3 years he'll be at a big club imo
