Amesbury Saint Posted 25 May, 2009 Share Posted 25 May, 2009 When Saints come out of administration, they will need to quickly start selling season tickets. They need some great ideas (and / or a inspiring manager / owner) to sell as many season tickets as last year (9000?). Perhaps they can make an offer similar to Burnley. http://www.tiscali.co.uk/news/newswire.php/news/reuters/2009/05/22/sport/burnley-offering-free-season-tickets-if-promoted.html&template=/sport/feeds/story-template-reuters.html Equally Burnley's kids ST prices are very good. Under 8s free 8-11 £30 12-15 £60 16-18 £75 What would be a good offer by Saints for ST prices?

Ain't goin to happen!.... Thought of Bogof. We need to get people in quick and back into the habit of going..... perhaps make the bogof offer to people who had st last year as a way of an apology plus away of encouraging people back. Amesbury Saint Posted 25 May, 2009 Author Share Posted 25 May, 2009 Thas a good offer, of which we can't afford at the moment, but could do "if we won promotion" back to fizzy pop div. Any offer needs to be seen in the light of a 5 year plan. One of the tasks has to be to fill SMS next season to create the fans of the future. Clearly the results on the pitch will make a difference to the size of the crowd, but Norwich have done it with their 18,000 ST holders for next season. One option is to make ST prices really good (particulary for certain parts of the ground eg Chapel & Chapel corners) but leave match day prices reasonably high. Also so innoviative type tickets eg - buy 6 (for different matches) before 31/8/09 and get 1 free - ticket for first home match free to everybody who bought tickets for the last home match of last season. - free replica shirt will purchase of season ticket - members get 2 free tickets - all fans from Amesbury go free! (lol) a full SMS will be much better than 12,000 attendance, even if many people are getting discounted prices.
m735 Posted 25 May, 2009 Share Posted 25 May, 2009 There is a fine line that we will be walking next season, and again while ooooTH is correct in saying that we need to get people through the door, BOGF's are just the other side of people parting with cash line, which is sadly what the new owners will need. Some top idea's here, the one about free replica shirt is one that I've often told the powers that be at SMS, but under Lowe never happened. We should as a community club do more to grab the young kids in the area, as "the childern are our future"! so free childers season ticket to anybody who bought an adult one last season would work, but give free SFC tat to the local schools would be good for PR and get the local chavs down to the games too! Leyton orient! and thats the issue. For many who have grown up watching the premiership, the thought of LO and others is hardly inspiring. No disrepect to LO and the others. The club needs to help fans get back in the habit of going to SMS in large numbers. Cheap tickets helps (although is not the only thing - home wins also helps!) I dont know what the cost price of a replica shirt is. Even if we cannot give them away - sell them at cost price. The end of last season offer of 2 away shirts for £15 was great. My sons mates were disapointed not to get one, even though they only really started going to home matches at the end of last season. I am sure with some creative marketing and great deals the club can generate a huge amount of interest again and people turning up for matches. The marketing director needs to think - there are 500,000 people who live in the wider Southampton area - lets grab their attension. It will not be easy in a recession but football is a great product.
ooohTerryHurlock Posted 25 May, 2009 Share Posted 25 May, 2009 Free entry to home Johnstone Paint games would be an idea. This is a very good idea as it really is a bonus cup competition. We are still inleague and Fa cups so why not just offer this as a freebie. Go to football free. ST's and Members would have a time frame to get there free ticket and then open it up to everone. Amesbury Saint Posted 25 May, 2009 Author Share Posted 25 May, 2009 Also the marketing people need to consider joint offers with other businesses eg spend £100 at Southapton B&Q and get a voucher for a free ticket at SMS.
SFC Forever Posted 25 May, 2009 Share Posted 25 May, 2009 I like the idea of a replica shirt with every season ticket. The cost to the club would not be that great and they would have the funds to buy a couple of players. If we could match the ST total for last year that would be a good start. More would be a bonus. MarkSFC Posted 26 May, 2009 Share Posted 26 May, 2009 Posted on another thread The start of season attendances will be based on several things; 1) Who takes over ownership, and their percieved wealth/ambition. 2) Who is Manager 3) Who the players are and whether there is any feel good factor about signings 4) The ST and MD price As far as pricing is concerned, the new owner(s) should offer a decent price, say £253 per season (£11 per game), if you purchase a two year ticket. A one year ticket 2009/10 should be £299 (£13 per game). A MD ticket should then be £16 per game in advance or £20 on the day Based on these prices I believ there would be in the region of 10-12K TWO YEAR ST holders and 4-6K ONE YEAR ST holders. So, on the lower estimate that would generate attendances of 14K and revenue form tickets of at least £3.73million. At the upper estimates it would generate attendances of 18K and revenue of £4.83 million. Attendances between 14 and 18K are very realistic and would still create a reasonble atmoshere because those figures do not include any away support, of which we will probably do well on because of SMS and thappeal to away fans. With a wealthy owner, a good manager and two or three "nice" signings I can see our attendances average over 20K next season BUT IMHO the owners have to get the prices right to start with! They need to recognise the S*** we've had to put up with and the climate we are in and be fan centric. Any new owner worth his salt needs to have a five year plan to return to the Premiership before he can even begin to think abouth making any ROI, and so he needs to get the fan base built up very quickly to help in that plan. We will see..........hopefully!

70's Mike Posted 26 May, 2009 Share Posted 26 May, 2009 all depends on how much cash any new owners have, if as i suspect the club will have to be self funding from day 1 then the scope for dramatically cutting season ticket prices is going to be limited
dubai_phil Posted 26 May, 2009 Share Posted 26 May, 2009 It's a balancing act. It's all very well AND important having special offers as suggested, but then if you have paid out for an ST and then others get them free or for 60 quid or you keep having reduced prices then the ST holders are less inclined to buy them.... I expect one of the main tasks is to "Add Value" to having an ST. The main value is of course having "your seat" each week, and then avoiding the "hassle" of the ticket office. In the "old days" you needed an ST to guarantee ANY seat. The problem with the "replica shirt" idea is that the club would have to buy them from Umbro. Pretty sure they will not be free, if they cost something like 15 quid each, then the new owners would have to commit say 6,000 shirts at 15 quid before they even start getting the money IN. Then there will be the problem of what sizes do you buy? Would Umbro actually make that number of shirts in addition to the numbers that the Club would expect to sell in a season? What happens if you only sell 3,000 ST's because the fans have given up? How many people would be on the phone/Echo/here complaining that they face a 4 week delay or their shirt was the wrong size?.... Possible, but not easy. The offers will need to reflect some sort of value to the ST holder, the "take a friend for a fiver" type of deals are also good, but then again you have the problem - where does the "friend" sit? An ST holder is likely sitting with people they know anyway and have to then start thinking of where to move to for a game. I am all in favour of doing everything we can to get numbers into the stadium, especially kids as they will be our ST holders of the future once football gets into their blood. But it does need a lot of research and thought, but hopefully the new team will have new ideas and this and other threads from last season contained many really good ideas. mattyg Posted 26 May, 2009 Share Posted 26 May, 2009 Burnley had very different reasons for being creative with there season ticket offer, competition for fans locally. There are so many clubs within a few miles in the North West. Blackburn have been offering season tickets for £200 for Premier League football. Burnley couldn't afford to compete on price, so they went with the BOGOF (if we get promotted). It has cost them £2m. Interestingly even local non league teams can't compete with the Blackburn price, Barrow want £245 for a season ticket. For saints to sell over 50% of the seats, 2 things need to happen, they need to start winning games and keep the walk up price below £20. It is the need to keep the walk up price low, that needs to drive the season ticket price down, even though people will still buy a ST at a higher price. As the walk price needs to be higher than the average ST price. Will are new owners have the ability to see this?

Great what Burnley are doing, but in an area where competition for fans is large, they need to be cheap to impress people with the size of their crowds. Wish it was that cheap for A-League football in Australia > fortune for pretty bog standard stuff!!! hamster Posted 26 May, 2009 Share Posted 26 May, 2009 May have missed it, but here's a link to the story about Burnleys "Chairman's Pledge" which ensured a FREE season ticket if you had one for two consecutive seasons AND they won promotion, which they just did: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/may/22/burnley-season-ticket-refund-promotion-play-off It will cost them about £2m but you have to take into account the fact that they sold more that they would have done, and they now have a mega bucks season in the Prem. Marc Jackson could do a similar promise, ie starting this season and conditional on us reaching he Championship (next season) as it will be a nigh on miracle this season. alehouseboys Posted 27 May, 2009 Share Posted 27 May, 2009 I'd go with a cracking deal for a 2 year season ticket, get fans hooked in, a big trick missed when we were relegated from the Prem. We need to entice a lot of fans into coming back regularly, many will feel they wont need a ST and pay match-by-match but will end up "giving this one a miss" too often.
