New Adam Curtis documentary on BBC iPlayer right now.

 

If you have two hours to spare, strap in.

 

A dead body and a clip of the Afghan version of the 'Thick Of It' ten minutes in. American soldiers gloating about killing Afghanis. And trippy as f uck.

As a piece of art, it's brilliantly done but the actual history is infuriating, bordering on misleading.

 

Steve Coll's very readable and meticulously even-handed trilogy (the Bin Ladens, Ghost Wars and Exxon Mobil) does a much better job in this regard.

It's amazing how dream-like he makes his documentaries. Bitter Lake was outstanding.

 

I'm sure I read somewhere he has a secret area in the BBC archives where he spends days researching and editing clips without being disturbed.
