    Are We Safe?

Ok then. I'll also stop overusing "in short" and "for the record" as well. Maybe.

    Only a 5% chance of that now : 10th------------------------------------18th 5---20---20---17---11---11---11---5---0.385

    Are We Safe?

Yeah sure, it was a cunningly devised wind up, it definitely wasn't you talking cobblers and getting called on it.
  4. For that to be true, you'd have to accept that going to court would NOT be in the best interest of the club and its reputation, which suggests that the club either didn't think it would win (best interests), or that there was something they didn't want publicly disclosed that would be to the detriment to its reputation.

    Are We Safe?

No, what you said was : So you thought a full stop was correct, which it isn't because then the sentence would be a fragment. Also, by "made it up", you clearly mean "adopt the rules of sentence construction". Here are some links about needing a verb in every sentence : http://www.cabrillo.edu/~gjonker/Verbs%20revised.pdf http://eslus.com/LESSONS/GRAMMAR/POS/pos3.htm http://www.pasadena.edu/divisions/english/writing/documents/dbdistin_530.pdf http://www.qub.ac.uk/directorates/sgc/learning/FileStore/Filetoupload,163265,en.pdf http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=lF78Max-h8MC&pg=PA69&lpg=PA69&dq=every+sentence+must+contain+a+verb&source=bl&ots=NLisSv_oiq&sig=KcYOWnBUfUY0L3YVsuOZUGrJjKc&hl=en&sa=X&ei=VreKUcbqA-qN0AWDi4H4DQ&sqi=2&ved=0CFoQ6AEwBQ#v=onepage&q=every%20sentence%20must%20contain%20a%20verb&f=false http://www.usciences.edu/writing/resources/USP/BASICSENTENCEPATTERNS.pdf http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verb.
  6. They also did something similar with refusing to attend Illingsworth's right to buy a ticket / fan policy on the website to give evidence, so as well as throwing around last minute cash settlements out of court, they also decided to completely ignore the existence and outcome of a tribunal.
  7. "'Mr Le Tissier also refers to his friend Francis Benali having the best interests of the club at heart, while neglecting to mention that the same person is currently suing Southampton Football Club in relation to a lease dispute and lost ambassadorial fees. ''It is a legal action the club will be defending rigorously in the best interests of the club and its reputation." Or just shovelling out some cash to Benali, presumably somehow also in the best interests of the club and its reputation.

    Are We Safe?

Just to wade in, if a full stop not a comma was used, the sentence would be "'Would' not 'would'". As that doesn't contain a verb, it would not be a sentence, merely a sentence fragment. In short, the comma was correct. As for you lot and your 37 points argument, it IS amusing that Redknapp targeted 37 points, which is a total that would still leave QPR finishing the season in the bottom 3. That's ignoring that they'd have got those points by beating teams above them and therefore possibly resulting in a lower target being safe, because they also might have only beaten top half sides, thereby not affecting the total required for safety at all. In short, can you all stop it now, please ?
  9. All US Sports have FAR more regulation than European football does, the difference is that they embrace collective bargaining and competition as a selling point of the entire competition and the (private) owners sign up to it as beneficial to the branding. The NFL also has a draft to embrace the competitiveness of the League, and MLS also embraces the draft concept, as well as having star players and wage capping. If you want to relate it to non-sporting examples, how about every franchised business ever ? Private ownership and agreeing to adhere to the regulations of the brand owner or forfeit the right to run as that brand ?
  10. PS I quite like Newport being regarded as one of the league's crappy little clubs, I still think they're (we're? I'm going to have to think about this) bigger than Dag & Red though, and can't wait for the fixtures, one of the quirks of the last 2 years in the Conference has been the complete lack of sides within an hour's drive of Southampton.
  11. That or Welsh League sides Cwmbran Celtic (who I once scored a hat-trick against!) or Cwmbran Town at the Stadium... failing that, West Pontnewydd in the Gwent County ? For the record re: the post above, the Welsh national anthem was sung (probably more loudly at the more welsh-speaking end) and The National Anthem was booed (just as it was at the last 2 FA Trophy Finals, featuring each of the finalists). I was a bit disappointed, because frankly I think it's one of the less appealing welsh characteristics, but the wife (definitely English) was completely furious. Newport's "welshness" has increased a lot since they left the League, what with the passing of time, the shift in political structure and the lack of border ambiguity there was in the past. However, the football club's right to play in the English League pyramid was confirmed in the High Court, and as I'm always at pains to point out, they joined the Football League in the same year as Saints and the Skates and have every bit as much league history. Plus, if they want to boo their own British anthem that's up to them isn't it..? The Skate sort of has a point regarding the 100 Years thing as the two clubs are completely separate businesses, but there was only a vacuum of football club between liquidation in Feb 1989 and the new club being formed in June 1989 and all of the people in the setup of the new club were involved in the old one, and there wasn't a gap in division membership (other than the Conference record having been expunged after 30-odd matches). To be honest, what does he care anyway ? He supports a club that's somehow dodged liquidation despite debts over 400 times larger than the one that killed Newport, and also been able to retain its league position throughout without having to resort to playing in non-League for 25 years.
  12. There are approximately 8,000 people currently posing as Newport County fans, I don't even know where Kingsbridge is.
  13. You are correct, I misremembered, and have amended.
  14. Turkey is very Turkish. Some of Cyprus is too. HTH.
  15. I think the main problem for me is a system which is reliant on always pressing in the attacking third and is always weak against the quick switch or long pass because that's the only system that works with our most frequently used personnel. We need to be able to play a different way against counter attacking and long ball sides who play on our weakness, and we can't do that at the moment because a key player doesn't actually fit another system (and similarly Ramirez doesn't really suit the one we've got).
  16. I agree with all of that, so not sure which bit of what I posted you're actually disagreeing with ! I guess then he's not a striker and isn't to be judged on goals, the other guy would be ?
  17. They were quick with that update tonight !
  18. Here's the English translation of the "money" story, the relevant quote is ""It is an offer that you cannot refuse. They will give me so much money (€2 million net per year and more than €1 million signing-on fee)."" http://espnfc.com/news/story/_/id/1135662/gaston-ramirez-to-choose-southampton-in-%E2%82%AC15m-move?cc=5739
  19. I like to read this when I'm not sure : http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2238756/Southampton-players-learn-Gaston-Ramirez-says-Adam-Lallana.html
  20. I don't think he does. Gaston's usually looked keen to work back as well as constantly showing for the ball... even when his one trick isn't working. Takes a confident player to keep going when he's not getting anywhere. But my God get him off non-shooting range free-kicks.
  21. There's been an ongoing argument all season on here about Gaston's original quote to an Italian paper about how much money he was getting, and whether it was net or gross due to the fact Italians usually discuss football wages with the tax paid, and whether that meant he'd be getting about £80k/wk, or nearer something like... £42k I think it was. The quote's still out there somewhere, it was the first link we had with him, long before the 100+ page thread on his signing got rolling. The fluctuating Euro/GBP exchange rate doesn't help things here.
  22. I'd like the word "worldie" to be banned, it is almost as horrendous as coloured boots. And why yes, I am now in my 40s.

    Wigan v Swansea

It's the mind it goes into.
  24. How ? He hasn't been at the club all season and they clearly tried to keep him as far away as possible from proper footballers when he was here.
  25. Only appearance for the "first team" was against Arsenal (reserves) in the Liebherr Cup, and they were 45 minute matches which didn't count. Nothing competitive whatsoever. I am utterly astounded that Gillingham have offered him a deal, he must have one hell of a zoom lens on his camera.
