BBC annoyed with Daily Echo over Saints coverage
The9 replied to Matthew Le God's topic in The Saints
*I'm Dan Kerins!* Oh, hang about, maybe not. Not sure what's wrong with the Echo printing information from other sources than their own, we'd be the first to complain if the local paper ignored Saints news stories that everyone else was reporting - you'd end up with the kind of ultimately authoritative-but-limited junk that the OS publishes. The Echo are entitled to print stuff they've looked up themselves as well as widely available information - the second it's published it's fair game anyway. As for the work experience - and are you a journalist now ? Thought not. -
Oh FFS, the reason England didn't get the World Cup had nothing whatsoever to do with which stadiums were included. The TECHNICAL paper, the bit that judged the bid on stadiums, infrastructure, etc. came equal top of the 4 2018 candidates. The problem of course is that the technical paper clearly had no bearing whatsoever on how FIFA's ExCo members voted - and they voted to give 2018 to the least developed country (as with 2010 - somewhere underdeveloped with a lot of poverty and flexibility in it's tax and other laws to allow FIFA to do what it wants and make tax-free profits as well as give tax breaks to corporate sponsors). As an indication of how irrelevant the choice of stadiums is, they also gave 2022 to the WORST scoring technical bid, which coincidentally is also country of the Emir who allegedly supported Blatter's FIFA General Secretary election campaign in the mid 90s (a win which came about unexpectedly when Keith Wiseman and Graham Kelly switched their support to Blatter from Lennart Johannson at the last minute). Helpfully enough, Qatar's success in 2022 bidding also weakens the threat to Blatter in the forthcoming FIFA elections from Mohammed Bin Hammam, another Qatari, who might be placated by a World Cup on his doorstep which will happen after Blatter is gone.

El-Abd's Injury from the Brighton Game - Not for Faint Hearted!
The9 replied to LGTL's topic in The Saints
What a load of crap people are talking about "blades" on here. Do any of you even have the foggiest clue what Calderon was wearing on his feet, never mind the kind of sole plate and stud configuration he had? That kind of thing can happen no matter what people are wearing, but I'd be inclined to think plastic studs would do less damage than anything metal... -
I still have a pair from 1989 which my mum brought back from Slovenia. They are awesome and I've been wearing them today. The treads are about a foot thick on them.

As the weather forecast has now significantly changed AGAIN, and a mate of mine in the North East is bemoaning the mental amount of snow expected overnight, I am hastily backtracking and now think the game is very likely to be called off, possibly the day before.
-
Aaron Lennon ?

Euw, and to think I put the link up here. That's so very wrong for at least two reasons. Which player was it assigned to ? As I said earlier, I found it when voting on "Best Prem kit ever" which uses the same format based on the images created by the truecolours website - they obviously have a db of Prem teams, kits, players and limited appearance information and are trying to do as much as possible with it.

He has his own boots, so he gets a game at Stockport. Three 5-0 defeats and a 4-1 defeat during his time there so far.
-
I MADE that thread. Oh, and my vote's for St Marco, because he talks utter horlicks with attempted authority and chucks his toys if you happen to disagree, mostly about computer games. And saint_stevo, for continuing to pretend his name's not Steve.

If it's not frozen between 3-5pm on Saturday would be enough grounds for me. The infrastructure will be sorted by then, we're crap at initially responding to snow in Britain but after a few days we're as used to it as anyone, and the major roads are all open. Don't forget as well that a layer of snow actually insulates the ground against frost and prevents the ground freezing, which is one of the reasons snow clearances tend to be left to the morning of the match. Two degrees is perfectly warm enough for a thaw, especially if there's sleet which speeds the whole process up.
-
He was warming up before the match with various other younger squad players. Looked half-decent in the one match I've seen him play, but Thurrock weren't the most testing opponents.
-
One of which was at Birmingham when he was played at right midfield. Bloody Redknapp.
-
I'd go with Lee Powell, he took my school team to pieces singlehandedly in 1989 and next time I saw him he was in the Saints team poster for 1991/2. Also, I have absolutely no recollection of Derek Allan at all.

It's a system that is underpinned (for multiple teams) by a database for Premier League players so only Prem players will appear, and when I posted this at Christ-knows-what AM (just checked, it was 3:04AM) there had only been about 20 head to heads per player, so it was a bit susceptible to individual mentalism. Now everyone on here can have a go, I've naively assumed all of the outliers of mentalism who post on here will offset each other providing a fairly representative outcome. In short, don't complain, go and add your opinions.

Looking at the forecast today, it appears to be for light snow today and tomorrow (meh) and then temperatures up to 2 or 3 degrees, which is more than adequate for a thaw. The minus 5 temperature at night on Thursday is a bit of a concern, but its followed by a sunny (if sub-zero) Friday and a sleety 2 degree Saturday, which is unlikely to sustain any already-laid snow. If they don't call it off on Friday I think it'll be on, it's on the coast so the salty air will assist the thaw as well. Having said all that, Hartlepool's been bloody freezing every time I've ever been there.

This is a well known problem, happens to everyone first time (usually in the lead up to big Cup matches funnily enough)... just email the club and they'll reset your account. I used to know the details of this inside and out when I actually used the system.

Speaking of loans, nice to see Poolis making his mark. He's now been involved in 11 Stockport matches (only once as sub), and they've beaten Barnet and Bury, lost 5-0 THREE TIMES and also lost 4-1. You have to assume every other Saints player has improved just by not having him around !

Some strange arguments here, which mainly seem to be around identifying teams who have more than two strikers scoring goals. How is that supposed to happen when by definition if those two strikers are playing and scoring there aren't any other strikers getting a game ? As for panicking about strength in depth, we won't know until Lambert and Barnard are both unavailable, and even then Guly and Connolly, and possibly Oxlade-Chamberlain and Doble make for better back-up than pretty much anyone in the league. Doble for one won't get a game and won't develop if we bring the likes of Bignall in more often, and if he's good enough then that's saved us having to buy someone in. He'll probably end up going on loan to a League Two side first though.

Economies of scale, its got to be cheaper to have someone else run the website for a fixed fee when they're already doing the same for loads of others than it is to design, configure, test, administer availability and update content for your own bespoke site. For a start practically every article can be used twice with the "shared" set up, on the home and away club's sites. Also, I'm pretty sure our ticketing solution is independent of the main content and run by a different company, just like a lot of the online club shops are separate entities despite the same core web design. Can't disagree that I preferred the standalone Saints website over the generic one, which was a legacy of our skint seasons at the bottom of the Championship - and the new online mobile version that you get directed to now on a mobile browser is almost completely useless as well. Even with the parameters of the fixed design it could be made to work a lot better as well - ticket news / purchasing is scattered all over the site, the search is utter crud and it's nigh-on impossible to view Match Galleries on a mobile browser too.
-
Top 7 is already looking much more realistic... shame there appears to be two Henri Camaras and two Kenwyne Joneses in the database though.
-
Interesting that people are choosing to completely ignore the evidence of Jack Warner (in particular) having annexed vast swathes of T&T's tickets in 2006 and (despite getting caught and asked to donate a similar amount to charity) did it again in 2010 - I'm pretty sure that evidence wasn't "around 10 years ago".
-
Funnily enough I used to use online all the time to book tickets, I haven't been on there once since they started charging £3 to use it. "Coincidentally" I haven't been to an away game yet this season for the first time in at least 10 years either, and I went to getting on for half of them last season. I could probably extend this to getting out of the habit of going altogether if getting a Season Ticket proves as financially difficult to fund next season as well, which may well result in a noticeable blip in replica kit sales... it's the thin end of the wedge.
-
I just found this when trawling around some football kit websites... though it's nothing to do with kits. It's a fairly interesting website which pitches Saints Premier League (and ONLY Prem) players against each other - you can vote for the one you prefer in a series of head-to-heads and then see how the players rank overall. http://www.greatestsaintsplayer.com/ I suspect it hasn't been exactly OVER-used, seeing as Le Tiss is 4th, Brett Ormerod is top and Jelle Van Damme is in the top 30 due to having won the one vote he was in, but I dare say you lot can do something about that... No need for any comedy vote-rigging here, it'll just be interesting to see what happens. Is Graham Potter better than Neil Moss ? How does Ulrich Van Gobbel rank up against Patrick Colleter ? YOU DECIDE ! Etc. The Greatest 4-4-2 team so far is this, which has a couple of "just WRONG"s in it : Dave Beasant Jason Dodd Ken Monkou Michael Svensson Wayne Bridge Anders Svensson Eyal Berkovic Chris Marsden Fabrice Fernandes Brett Ormerod Matthew Le Tissier

Yeah, we'd piloted that one at Swindon away at one of the friendlies. I spoke to an Ajax fan at Euro 2004 about him and he smiled and said "clumsy". They replaced him with the Brazilian Maxwell, while he was still there. JvD was also only famous in his Saints stint for having a bright yellow Hummer which he had to refuel at Fleet services to get him to London, IIRC.

I'm sorry but that's just garbage.
