  1. 2-0. Terrible defending with the doors opened wide for Sterling to progress into the penalty area, setting up Aguero’s tap-in.
  2. That didn’t take very long.
  3. Come on Saints!
  4. Fun fact of the day from NBC Sports: since Mark Hughes was appointed, only Huddersfield have won fewer PL games.
  5. Pep reckon that Saints have hugely talented players... “Always when I see Southampton, with the players they have, it's a surprise they are in the position they are in. 'It's the quality of the players they have. I'm impressed with the quality they have in front, it's strong, and especially in the middle, with (Oriol) Romeu, (Pierre-Emile) Hojbjerg. They have hugely talented players.' https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/article-6349053/Pep-Guardiola-surprised-Southampton-struggles.html
  6. Keegan, M. Svensson, Le Tissier, Lambert.
  7. Carrillo played but did not score in Leganes’ 2-0 loss to Levante yesterday, after recovering from a blow to the hip sustained in last weekend’s game. Pellegrino appears to be working his managerial magic at the club, with Leganes presently 17th in the league.
  8. Agreed.
  9. The numbers provided were for 21 matches, so that must include the League Cup games that he managed.
  10. Leicester’s Amarty just suffered a very nasty leg injury. Replay did not look very pleasant.
  11. Hughes’ points per match with Saints is 1.1. Not sure if that includes today’s draw with Newcastle. Pellegrino’s PPM was 1.09. Puel’s was 1.38. He’s not getting it done is he? But can anyone do better? https://www.transfermarkt.com/fc-southampton/mitarbeiterhistorie/verein/180
  12. I wonder if we had to pay off Puel completely considering that he got back into PL management a few months after getting fired.
  13. It’s pretty damning, isn’t it. Too many average players replacing excellent players.
  14. Hoj was ill.
  15. West Ham go up by a goal in the first half against Leicester before Noble gets a straight red. I think Puel may be in trouble if Leicester don’t manage to come back.
  16. Corners were not great. He almost set up Stephens with a nice long free kick though. I can see him creating more goal scoring opportunities than Moi if he gets a chance.
  17. The team are snakebit in front of goal. Repeatedly turning out the same attacking lineup that has repeatedly failed to score does not seem like a good idea. Austin looks slow and out of position far too often, has a Shane Long type of first touch and he seems to have lost his eye for goal. Gabbiadini should start ahead of him even if Austin recovers from his shoulder injury. He links up far better with the other attacking players and takes intelligent positions - he looked great in the move that created Long’s missed opportunity towards the end. All those wasted long range efforts today won’t endear Gabbiadini to Hughes, though. Newcastle were awful. We should have won. Saints defenders were comfortable, including Hoedt and Stephens. I’m struggling to remember a moment when Newcastle seriously troubled McCarthy and the defenders. I thought that Lemina was decent today defensively particularly in the second half when Hughes tried to open things up. All in all another frustrating home game.
  18. FT 0-0. Some boos at the final whistle.
  19. Gabbiadini is not going to endear himself to Hughes with efforts like that. 5 mins of injury time.
  20. That was a good chance for Long. Nice move down the right,
  21. Lemina was not far off with that shot.
  22. Muto off for Atsu.
  23. Long on for Moi, JWP on for Romeu. JWP gets a few cheers.
  24. Diamé off for Ki.
  25. Rondon replaces Perez.
