  1. It's because they want a big target man to hold the ball up. When teams sit deep, Long can't do this job. The mistake is not having an understudy to Pelle in a similar mould that is good enough to step in
  2. Isn't it inevitable that Pelle would have a dip in form when he is expected to play every single game? An injury break may even be good for him
  3. Long was perfect for this game with Arsenal's high line playing into his hands, but against deeper teams we need Pelle's hold up play
  4. Wonder goal aside (and what a goal), he doesn't offer enough going forward for the type of game we want to play, with full backs pushing forward. But with Cedric a complete liability at the moment and Yoshida not suited to the role, Cuco's solidity was very welcome.
  5. Swansea only really have their passing game. We have a passing game, but also a target man, great crossers and big centre backs who come up for setpieces
  6. Corbyn's first @YouGov leadership satisfaction rating is -9% (30%/39%). That's 29% worse net than Ed Miliband's first one (43%/23%) Previously we were told that Corbyn's new clear and simple policies were going to be much more appealing to the electorate, but now the cry is that we have to give him time to majestically win over the British public. Perhaps he can do it, but he has a **** of a long way to go.
  7. We routinely leak contract offers (e.g. J Rod, Wanyama, Cork) because numpties on here complain when players leave that we didn't try to keep them
  8. Primarily the Mail is very good at light hearted stuff and women's content. It knows its audience very well, and sits in a mid market not catered for by the Mirror or Guardian. It also panders to people's prejudices and caters for instinctively conservative people Sent from my D5503 using Tapatalk
  9. But you assume they can accurately filter the incorrect stuff and just believe the correct stuff. It's way more complex than that, and they are bound to end up with some/many false impressions
  10. I think there's a pre-existing bias but the Mail legitimises and amplifies it
  11. You can add my Mum to the list. Even if Mail readers recognise some of it as untrue, the sheer quantity of bile means that some of it filters through.
  12. 50 Labour achievements http://www.leedsne.co.uk/50_labour_achievements Yet the Corbynites think it's better to shout from the margins as the Tories dismantle the welfare state. This is interesting on maternity leave in particular: http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/features/the-timeline-maternity-leave-2113236.html European exceptions, 1988 In 1988 a European Commission report demonstrated the extent to which Britain lagged behind its contemporaries in employment law. The only state not to provide full statutory maternity leave, Britain had blocked the adoption of a draft directive setting out minimum standards on parental leave. New Labour, 1999 Two years after New Labour swept into power, the Employment Relations Act granted all employees a minimum of three months' unpaid parental leave, while mothers were entitled to 18 weeks' paid leave.
  13. Any economist, right or left, will tell you that Greece's inability to devalue its currency has massively hurt its economy. The same has been true in Spain, Ireland and Italy. If they could have made their exports cheaper they would not seen their economy tank so badly. Its the same as when Churchill tried to tie us to the gold standard or Lamont tried to keep us in the ERM, you need flexibility of exchange rates if you are not a fully integrated country. The recession here would have been much worse if we were in the Euro Sent from my D5503 using Tapatalk
  14. (Mostly) happy to be proved wrong but I'll go on record and say I think Corbyn is and will be a disaster. No doubt his supporters will blame "the Blairites", which now appear to include the Guardian and 95% of Labour MPs, rather than their own poor judgment
  15. I don't blame people for acting in their own interest (within reason), but if it is creating a problem then that's where the government has to step in. And to be fair the government has reduced the tax breaks in its last Budget
  16. What is our net transfer revenue since 2012 out of interest? And how much Sky money have we received?
  17. How much are we missing Paul Mitchell ? Sent from my D5503 using Tapatalk
  18. What about leagues in other countries that start earlier/later? Or should the entire system be set up to benefit us?
  19. Yep, landlords can be a nightmare, you are very lucky to own, SO16_Saint
  20. And how does selling 5.4% stimulate growth? It's still majority owned by the state
  21. Enjoy the victory!
  22. Does that include George Osborne?
  23. We're never that good at Lords. We'll come back stronger in the next one
  24. Really hard to know what to do from here. Bairstow and Rashid could come in for two of Lyth, Ballance and Bell, but they're not really like for like replacements - we'd lack 'grinders'. Best I can come up with is Rashid in for Lyth to improve our bowling and to some degree the batting, Moeen opens with Cook, and Root takes over at number three to allow Ballance to drop down the order. In reality they will probably go for Bairstow as it's the more conventional choice
