Danny Wallace. Pretty sure it was his disgruntled agent that angled for the move. Personally I never felt it would work at United (lots of good players seemed to flop around that time) and Southampton seemed very much like his adopted home having left London as a youngster.
-
who says they are overspending and getting players in they can't afford? Their income dwarfs the rest of the teams in that league so they can afford to outbid and out pay other teams for players.

Great Adidas ball, but how **** does the Adidas logo look plonked in the middle of the shirt...

Have to say that when saw him play for the first team I thought he looked a great prospect withScholes like tendencies and couldn't understand us letting him go, but then again I only saw a few cameos so found it hard to argue with those that saw him on regular basis. We certainly had a lot of CM at the time.

Recruitment yes, the rest of those elements I'd say no (all the teams do that these days) and perhaps that is the same with SKY - their better recruitment is the reason they are running away with the tour again. Hope that is the case and not something else.

The analysis on the clinic is certainly unnerving. I thought SKY were whiter than white, but the the suggestions are that the power improvements despite weight loss and the ability to excel in both time trials and in the mountains is just not possible without doping. I hope that is not the case. Armstrong broke my tour de France loving heart, so to find out the new cleaner tour won by clean riders is actually a sham would be unforgivable.

my memory isn't great, but I recall there being strong rumours on here that the fee was actually only £200,000 up front and the rest later. Whether that was to deflect the unhappiness about shelling out on a nipper rather than a senior pro I don't know, but that lower amount would certainly fit with the Lowe we all 'love'.
-
I disagree in that Lowe did deviate from his system when employing bagpus. He then gambled big by giving him the money to spend and wages on new players, without red**** having to sell before bringing them in. Ultimately that gamble failed and tied his hands the following season as he desperately had to sell players to try and balance the books. He did a very good job of squeezing money out of Liverpool when the reality was we were in desperate trouble. By and large the summer was wasted getting players out rather than getting the right ones in, but saggychops still should have done better with the players we had left. Pretty much every side that goes down struggles. Lowe would have ensured we at least could balance the books, however Wilde's gamble nearly killed us.
-
Why not? player agents will have heard about the new tv deal too.
-
Hard to argue with that, unless Froome has burned so much energy he is open to attack tomorrow. Somehow I doubt that. Hope he attacks again...bloody good tour this by the way.

Lowe showed his weakness when appointing Wigley. He should I have learned his lesson after Gray, but he didn't and ultimately that was the start of our downfall. The flip side is that he not, only appointed Prost, but he was bold enough to back the youth development with £2m each year, which was a substantial amount of our budget. That money could have been invested in first team players, but Lowe saw the benefits and ultimately they had a major bearing on the future of the club.

Losing out on Toby and allowing Morgan to leave is going to create a huge hole in the spine of our side. I think fans underestimate how hard it will be to replace Morgan.
-
Agreed, although a firing JROD is going to be with a hell of a lot more than the £7m we paid for him.
-
No, but if we talk about it enough, when we don't sign him or he goes elsewhere we can have good old moan.
-
He has a Relatively new girlfriend, and possibly one reason why he doesn't want to consider moving to a team abroad.
-
If he is the 'Toby replacement' then no reason why he couldn't get plenty of games.

any player that leaves us now that we are in the top flight and challenging for UEFA spots can ****ing do one (unless we have released them). I don't wish them well. I hope they are ****ing useless, because if they do play well they are most likely to help their teams come above us. Having said that I know why they leave and I would likely do the same in their shoes (although the legacy and love you get from fans from being at a single club might tempt me otherwise) - doesn't mean I have to like it.
