Ings, Vestergaard were not "buy develop and sell" players for a start. We spent a year trying to get Ings to stay, it became obvious he never was going to. You realise that players and agents understand the value of one-year-left as well? You realise they sometimes will aim to get to that? The idea that two years ago we should have given Vestergaard a 3 or 4 year extension sounds fucking mad to me, especially as we pretty much got our money back when we sold him. I don't believe that the club should make sure every player in the club should all have two years left at all times because that would cost us an absolute fortune, ties the hands of any future managers and puts us in a very weak position and helpless to agents for pay rise pay rise pay rises for any old player every summer. Should we have lobbed £50k a week for four years at Ballard a year ago? Would that have aided his development?
