I think this is correct on all fronts. I think the only outstanding twist is that Badenoch joins up with Sunak (think Redwood/Ken Clarke from many years ago). This has been presented by some insiders as Gove's masterplan all along. No idea if it will actually play out like that (she did lay into him in the ITV debate) or even if it does whether it will work. Truss would be unspeakable but probably great news for Labour.

Maybe not after all. Anyway this poll from an influential Tory blog is interesting. Big old Penny and, er, Kemi Badenoch seem to be most preferred by members. Riiiight.

It's an elected role so she is in place as a result of the will of the people of that area. The process and role was introduced by the Conservatives. It's called democracy mate.
