Didn't we get to eighth on the back of signing one player with significant Premier League experience? And two more with some experience in a relegated team, but we signed them in the NPC as NPC players.

BBC Article - The inside story of the great Southampton sell-off
CB Fry replied to Donatello's topic in The Saints
If you are Crab Lungs this kind qualifies as "stuff that would make you eyes water if only you knew" and how the club is, like, a disgraceful shambles and evil and everything. To the rest of humanity just a handful of stroppy players looking for any excuse to double their money but appear like the oh-so-wronged helpless innocent party. If only Les Reed had never broken Lallana's heart he would never have even considered signing for Champions League Liverpool. -
Possibly better than hier apparent Blind though. Or have you got him down winning the Champions League in the next two years?
-
I think Delldays premise had him taking us to two top ten finishes, winning the League Cup and getting to the Europa League final. I'd like to think so anyway.
-
1 and 2 is pretty ingenious on your part. Nonsense. I gave up after that.
-
He'd have been in coaching managing for 20 odd years in a couple of years time. Sounds about right for that kind of move. Glad that's all sorted. Who's the next England manager?
-
The clue was in the fact that Batman said "two years time".
-
Well, yeah. You make it sound like we signed Zidane and Maldini last summer. The signing of Waynyama or Lovren was no greater accomplishment than the signing of Tadic or Pelle this summer. All roundabout £10m, decent players from European clubs of reasonable but not giant standing. The only signing that broke our usual mould was Osvaldo, who turned out to be f uck ing sh it.

Funny how your source has never ever said anything remotely positive, isn't it?
-
You do seem to be clinging to that tweet like a newborn calf to its mother.
-
Weird to do a photo shoot like that at Staplewood.
-
Two players of completely different standard, there. No evidence that VW is any better than RB. Half of a Prem season where he was very effective.
-
I think it was amended to "young talent" quite quickly.
-
You think if I stopped talking about him his name would never come up on here again? Just putting the po-faced spoilt brat "I'm so underwhelmed" routine in a bit of context.
-
Nah. This way round is the correct order of things.
-
It's about time the Gavyn Davies/Jimmy Tarbuck dream team came in and sorted this sh it out.
-
What a legend. Who remembers the good old days when relentless and heartless pursuit of the Champions League and sod who gets hurt was the thing we did to others rather than a thing that was done to us?
-
Sounds like there is a little cluster of Inter players trying desperately to not catch the manager's eye just in case they end up as the Osvaldo make weight. Come on chaps, we're not that bad.
-
If this was a Cortese signing plenty on here would be in breathless palpitations about how we have successfully fought off a target Liverpool were chasing and look he has Champions League experience and everything... A very solid signing in a spot where we need strengthening. Shame it is a loan, but good work Saints anyway.

This could be one of those posts where people pretend that "no one ever said" the stuff the opening poster has referred to, although in this instance the pretence has extended to three. Just three posters in the last five or so years has used the term/sentiment around "remember where we were 3/4/5 years ago"? Three people? I'd call it one of the most reoccurring themes/tropes on this forum, used by countless contributors in countless "let's have some perspective" threads and posts over the last few years. But no, lets go with you. It was only ever said by 3 contrasting posters. Right-o. Heaven forbid you ever make stuff up to try and achieve the intellectual high ground.

Yes, I did say that.
-
Wilde, Crouch et al had no part in our relegation from the Premier League. Subsequent eff-ups had many and other fathers, but Lowe almost entirely to blame for the first drop, with the players and the assorted managers taking the rest.
-
Why are we suddenly talking about Ryan Bertrand?
-
Don't encourage him. He's just churning out his "Stairway to Heaven", his smash hit hilarious trolling routine. We can all sing along. You've got to admit it's solid gold chuckles all the way.
