We might be fifteen million quid better off.
-
If only we had £15m spare in the summer. Just think what we could have done with £15m.
-
Ask not if you can let the training ground budget go spiraling up by £15m, double the original plan, but how. Ask not if you can deliver one of the (if not the) very worst shirt sponsorship commercial deals in the Premier League, but how. Ask not if you can cosy up to your chums in the Daily Mail and Sky Sports with pie-in-the-sky self aggrandisement, and then feed them destabilising doom-laden trash talk on the event of your departure, but how.

Okay, the Italian Chris Hughton then.
-
Either way, it's been shown he was a good Championship level chairman who struggled with the step up to the highest level. An Italian Ian Holloway if you will.
-
PS. You are a total bellend
-
Why wouldn't I enjoy the win? We're brilliant and bang on to achieve what I thought we could this season. So thanks for the utterly pointless reply. Embarrassing to suggest we might not become a regular top 6 club anytime soon? Okay then. Maybe you should try and read what I actually post, sweetheart.

This. The sheer arrogance that a wish to see us finishing 9th in the Premier league is dismissed as pessimistic is what is so laughable on this forum. We've finished eighth in the prem once in about twenty years. No medium sized club in that time has consistently broken the top 7 for any consistant time in the same twenty years. With the exception of Bolton who, surprise surprise get dismissed and sneered at on here. But they did it. 8th or 9th five seasons in a row would be an astonishing achievement. I doubt we will do it but would love it if we could. 4th, 6th etc is total pie in the sky, we might might do it one season. But really not worth wasting energy on.

Why aren't the talking about winning the league, then? We should be aiming that high, right?
-
Does this mean Steve Coppell will no longer be doing all that tireless work he was definitely doing for no money? Big loss.

LIVE DEBATE: The EU - in or out - Clegg vs Farage
CB Fry replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Lounge
Nick Ferrari is biased, yes. Former Fox News executive, chum/acolyte of Murdoch, potential Tory candidate for Mayor back in the day, the go-to rent - a - gob right wing commentator the news stations go to. Yes, he is biased. -
Anyone thinks it is "totally unrealistic" for Saints (or any prem club) to be second in October is an idiot. We were fourth at Christmas on the Lowe plan. Any Prem team with a fair wind could do that, last year WBA were up there. Next season it could be Newcastle again, or Villa might click or Burnley could do little surprise package routine. But October flurries are pretty meaningless: we aren't second now. Rickie can say what he likes. We aren't going into the CL and that's fine with me.

This. Let's hope our new man spends less time cosying up to his chums from Sky Sports and the Daily Mail and more time securing commercial sponsorships that are a wee bit less pitiful than the previous suit saddled us with. When WBA have a shirt sponsorship deal worth of 5 times ours, something is seriously lacking.

Absolute comedy gold. LOL at getting a "case number" and everything.
-
Absolutely. One of the best things that Cortese did for us was to completely destroy the tiresome myth about how "chopping and changing doesn't work" and "there's no such thing as instant success". Well yes there is: we chopped and changed and chopped and changed and look at the instant success we've had. Chelsea, as others have already said, are another perfect example. From a managerial point of view, the general rule is you'll know within a year, or a full season whether it's going to work. If it isn't, get rid, because the chances of your man becoming the next Ferguson is tiny. Pointless clinging on to it.

Six points off seventh having played a game more. Give over, we are not going to finish seventh. We will finish eighth or ninth, as has been pretty obvious since about January.
-
Hang on - is worrying about our heritage pandering to parochial fans or not? Make your mind up before you start grizzling about what is or isn't our heritage.
-
Who would want to be a parochial club like Barcelona, Inter or Juventus or current Champions League Quarter-finalists Athletico Madrid. Amazing they got so far wearing that kit.
-
The idea of Saints making it back to the Premier League in five years was something that "looked ridiculous" is equally made up crap, sweetheart. Kinda my point.
-
Getting into the Premier League from L1 powered by a billionaire was a plan "that looked ridiculous at the time?" Not to me it didn't. Anyone thinking we were going to spend five years in the third tier would have been far more ridiculous.
-
Interesting to think Poch is described as being comparatively poorly paid for his role. Because we know other senior executives at SFC were trousering gigantic pay packets.
-
About right. We have a "par" level for our size which stretches from mid -table Prem to mid-table Championship. The same as many clubs from Derby to Sheffield Wednesday. We are tracking just above par at present, much like we were significantly under par in L1 (as Wolves are now). It is highly unlikely that we are going to break out of that anytime soon, just as it is highly unlikely that Everton will spend a decade in L2 or S****horpe to spend a decade in the Premier League. Every club has a "natural level" and it takes a long time to change it...Not impossible as Swansea, Wigan, Oxford or Luton will tell you. But Saints are what we are.
-
I think he should be saluted for recognising that he couldn't quite cut it at the very highest level, and sensibly bailed out before he embarrassed himself. The Kevin Keegan of Chairmanship if you will. No question he could do a job at his level, where you don't need to engage big corporate shirt sponsors or be prepared to work alongside demanding owners. He's the perfect man to drag a club like Sheffield Wednesday out of the Championship for example.

100% this. The post - Denmark late eighties hummel stripes kit was absolute perfection IMO.
