  1. I am not one of those making the case that a 29 year old without any Prem experience should be avoided. If someone has seen him play regularly and seen some flaws that might be an issue here, fair enough. But a flat rejection based on age and no Prem past is so blatantly dumb that it justifies a SRL comparison
  2. It was totally relevant. A 29 year old who has no Prem experience (but is top scorer in the Dutch top flight) should be avoided coz he cant be any good. A 30 year old with no Prem experience, or top flight experience anywhere, did extremely well. Go figure
  3. Stop sitting on the fence please
  4. Fair point but given Spurs bloated squad and no doubt hefty wage bill they may need to sell a few first, at least I hope so
  5. Sounds great. Physical development will come for sure. Technical ability is natural and may not always be coached
  6. To the OP - suggest a shortlist of the best 3 or 4 suggestions on here and then set up a poll, can then remind everyone who votes about a small contribution ideally. I am certainly in Cheers
  7. Hence my point above (not answered). Your assumption is that spending big guarantees quality and spending less guarantees average players only. Osvaldo, Gaston, Lovren and Clyne are proof that this is tosh
  8. What the hell is wrong with making low offers? Why do we have to pay big bucks, does that guarantee quality? Should we only be positive if we are trying to sign £15m+ players? How have Osvaldo and Gaston worked out? Lovren was about the same price as Tadic, from the ever-so-highly-rated french league and seems to have done ok. Take a deep breath and try to relax, at least until you have seen some of the players we end up signing. If we get decent quality and still have money in reserve, i will be delighted
  9. We signed a fair few players just after Cortese arrived, granted smaller deals but at the time he had less football experience than me
  10. Agree - £2-3m is a huge chunk of cash. Paid for Fonte, SRL and Cork!
  11. Or just very discreet about signings and not blabbing / leaking to the media at every opportunity
  12. Top team imho, seems a great blend from the outside at least
  13. Seriously needed when Lallana goes.
  14. Yep, while Cortese was here he was inundated with offers from Top 4 clubs for our players, while they all queued up to ask for a move. Remind me, where is Ox? As for Reed, an hour ago you said "So far he's failing, massively", so at least you are a man of rapidly changing views
  15. Gee, there is a ton of negativity and ill informed nonsense on here normally but this is plumbing new lows. Good to see that, among other fails, you think: - players have no power at all and we could resist any proposed sales or moves no matter what, provided we have Cortese; - that Koeman will not have had any discussions at interview, or since being hired, about players and who we might keep, sell or buy. Further that while finishing his holiday, he kept his phone and emails off and has only started any SFC work today. Well done
  16. This cant be right, it must be a false rumour, because no one on this forum predicted it and the board are too slow in dealing with anything and we already used up all of our luck in one hit landing a new manager.
  17. Move along please, been done to death
  18. Cheap as chips these dutch players
  19. Were both here at the same time
  20. Aston Villa at home last season. Extreme example but worthy
  21. Osvaldo? He was the only striker purchased.
  22. But you said he sounds and looks rubbish which is quite different. And wrong
  23. Van Persie does ok for his age. Rickie 3 years older did ok. Ability may be worthy of worry but not his age
  24. Great signing, a proper goalscorer who is young, english, developing and a saints fan. £8m will seal my approval, though would not blame Burnley for seeking a lot more
