Looking forward to Adkins? Yes I bloody well am!
-
Perhaps you should cast your mind back to Pardew's last game. That is the difference a decent manager can make...
-
Have no expectation of a result today. Wilkens is firmly in the 'Wigley category'. Hopefully another defeat will convince Cortese to get his hand in his pocket and sort the Adkins mess out. Had he have done so earlier in the week, we might have had a better chance of a result today...
-
And given they are by far the best two that we are apparently interested in, I wouldn't hold your breath for a 'Wow' any time soon!
-
Can't blame Bournemouth for wanting to let their fans know their manager has resisted overtures from a bigger club. Talking of disrespectful, it's pretty disrespectful to not offer compensation to a club when you take their manager...
-
Ummm...
-
This is getting ridiculous. For someone as experienced as Cortese in the corporate world, he is making an absolute pigs ear of this, and further tarnishing the club's reputation. Bournemouth Chairman just been on SSN confirming Howe has turned us down. If I was Adkins I'd probably end my interest in the position now. Let's hope he doesn't. As I say, a pigs ear...
-
Agreed. Will wait until it's official before I believe we've made this sensible appointment, but if true - good luck St. Nigel!
-
Aren't you forgetting "well done Nicola Cortese"? They are quite within their rights to sing about Pardew. I would be doing too if I was there. PS What are "the Met" doing in Southampton?!
-
Out of the current crop of alleged candidates I'd go for Adkins. Strikes me as an intelligent guy, plays good football (on a shoestring budget), and probably has his best years ahead of him.
-
Just sacked our best manager in ages. 0-3 home defeat to a club yet to win a game this season. 8k gate. On form striker sent off and now suspended. Morale low. "We recognise that frequent changes to the football management are unlikely to assist in the winning of trophies and promotions." - N. cortese Yeah, we know.
-
Hope Cortese got some stick tonight. He deserves it. Any news on pro-Pardew chants?

What has Claridge's managerial record got to do with anything? As a pundit I think he's first class.
-
No, I think it's broader than that - as they said he's running a club like an investment bank, they tend to manage PR to the nth degree, and keep things very closed. Nothing wrong with that to some extent, but this is a football club, and the fans and wider media need a reasonable flow of information. Hopefully he'll learn.
-
Nothing we don't know - basically nothing to do with performance, simply a 'personality clash'. As Claridge said, nothing wrong with the football side that a couple of decent signings won't fix. Interesting they all thought NC would have to go 'big'. I am not so sure.
-
Listening. Claridge will be interesting. Tells it like it is.
-
Well, not quite - he had won the French league, and the French cup with Monaco. Jan Poortvliet is probably a better example...
-
Football is a pretty close-knit community, and with Cortese's growing 'reputation' in the game I don't expect any big names or people who want be given a degree of autonomy to be interested. I suspect we're back in the Lowe era of low-grade 'yes men' or unknown lower-league foreigners. How ridiculous.
-
Could Coppell be an option? The timing works, but then he's also just 'retired' from football management. As Bridgnorth says if he's sacked AP he'd better have a top class replacement lined up... Or be prepared to deal with the backlash.
-
And I'd really love him to get that job and do well. Whatever people felt about him, I doubt anyone would wish him ill. He'll certainly get a good reception from me if/when he next brings a team to SMS.
-
Exactly right.
-
That's an article from May. Cotterill is at Portsmouth now...
-
I wonder of Liebherr's death has anything to do with this? Ie perhaps he wanted Pardew to stay on, so Cortese's hands were tied? Liebherr's suddenly dies, NC allows the dust to settle, then acts... In some ways at least this has now happened - rather than things festering in the background. Cortese HAS to come up with the goods now though - someone with a proven track record, good motivational skills and who can hit the ground running (think I'm describing AP!). Good luck Alan. I know you will be snapped up quickly, and be a great success wherever you go next. Thanks for giving us the most enjoyable season we'd had for some time last year. You've left us with a squad equipped to win this league. The pressure is on you Noe NC...
-
Absolutely ****ing ridiculous. What are you playing at Cortese?!?
-
Anyone of reasonable intelligence and/or without an axe to grind...
