Personally I found it a bt embarrassing that Reading fans spent more time singing about Graeme Murty than they did about their own team... and another thing... was it just me or did they have a microphone on their drummer?

Historically we've always done well in the Janury transfer windows under Cortese... I'm thinking of those clubs who tried to play hardball with him and thought they'd get a wedge of that Oxlade Chamberlain transfer money... Well, that parachute money's fast running out... Some real bargains to be had in January methinks... Just one or two players mind you but it could make a real difference..

Good point, January will be a real tester... Judging by previous seasons it's the most vital part of the season and if we're still up there I think we'll now attract some serious talent... Happy days..

After beating the supposedly best team in this league and doing it with some conviction, at what point do we start to believe we can win this league? I didn't until last night... 32,150 fans, St Marys rocking, Saints playing some cracking football, top of the league by five points after a quarter of the season? Now? I believe... Do you?

Very good point! I think Lowe is certainly responsible for some very poor decisions but was also some very good ones. After 20 years of talking about a new stadium, Lowe actually delivered it.. You can't airbrush out his role in the club either..

With that and Minty's comment we have the middle ground... I like the middle ground, I think I'll stay here...

"How can I say that?" That "ridiculous statement"?? Take out McMenemy and Le Tissier would anyone have taken us over? Without McMenemy would we have attracted the likes of Keegan etc? Without Le Tissier would we have been in the Premiership for a long as we were? The very fact that we were an attractive proposition was partially due to the input of those two... **** me, I've heard it all. now.. Are people so desperate to support the new regime that they'll now try and wipe out the legacy of the people that speak out against him? We can't re-write history or see what life would have been without those two but you show me ANY club that has fans that would turn on genuine legends like some have on here? Would Liverpool fans be-grudge Kenny Dalgleish a ticket free or not?? Would Arsenal fans be slagging of Henry or Wright? No? **** me people, no one's saying Cortese isn't doing a damn fine job but are we that shallow we'll turn on club legends like Le Tiss and McMenemy? We ask loyalty off our new stars, and yet with LeTissier, the ultimate one club man, we turn on him at the first sign of any controversy. If you were Adam Lallana or Ricky Lambert would you give a **** about us seeing the way some fans can turn on club legends?? If anyone thinks we'd be anything other than a Charlton or a Sheffield United without the input of Le Tissier or McMenemy, they're deluded...

The difference is, without the past there is no future... Without the likes of Le Tissier and McMenemy would we have the club that Cortese now runs? I think not...

In hypos defence the facts are the ones printed by the Sun. As it has been previously said, if he was misquoted I'm sure Cortese would be on the phone to the Sun pdq. Right now the facts are, unless we are told otherwise, in the Sun and those defending Cortese are the ones looking for an alterior explanation for his words.

I'd counter that by saying that Cortese is a sharp operator, if he was deliberately misquoted he'd be on the phone to the Sun pretty damn sharpish... So far, no retraction...

Got to disagree with you on that point Wes, if the comments are showing as direct quotes I would fully expect Stelling to react to them as he did. Why should he ask Cortese? They're direct quotes... Another point, that appears to have been ignored on here, was Jeff's opening line "Mr Cortese, I do hope you haven't been misinterprepted..." Which I think answers your point. The fact is that Cortese is no fool, he hasn't been "misquoted" or "ambushed" in his comments. He mentioned Le Tiss and Lawrie and then mentions "Freebies here, freebies there.." directly afterwards... It's pretty clear who he's talking about. Everyone was on the bus, everyone was being positive about the club and then this whole fiasco puts us back at square one again... This isn't a question of Stelling escalating matters, it's a case of him responding to an inflamatory article... No article, no reply... It's a shame as we seem to be talking about this rather than the success on the pitch... and that's far more important.

Personally I find it rather dangerous to be so ridiculously pro Cortese as to not consider either side of an argument. Um's right here, Nicola is no fool and to even suggest that some sneaky journalist drew an anti LeTissier/McMenemy comment out of him is just plain ludicrous.. The time has come to forget the past shake hands and move on.... and that's both sides... The man has done some truly remarkable things here at his time at the club and only an idiot would deny that but then again only an idiot would sit in the stands and not question him or criticise him if he does something wrong...

After 12 years at the club... That would get most managers a gold clock these days... **** me if a player stayed at a club for 12 years and then left to go to their home town team no one would carry a grudge, why is it different for a manager? I don't see people still holding a grudge against Keegan, Shearer or Channon... They all left the club..
